Aim: Carotid artery stenting is thought to result in better outcomes when compared to carotid endarterectomy. To evaluate this hypothesis, a far-reaching of published randomized controlled trials were performed to evaluate the short-term outcomes of carotid artery stenting versus carotid endarterectomy for patients undergoing carotid artery stenosis. Material and Methods: A comprehensive search of trials published from 1994 until December 31, 2022, was performed using Science Direct, PubMed, Web of Science, Sage, Ebscohost, Scopus, and Cochrane Central electronic databases. Major endpoints (any stroke, myocardial infarction, and all-cause mortality) were extracted from the publications. Pooled risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using a fixed-effects model. Results: 21 trials involving 15518 patients (8514 with stenting, 7004 with endarterectomy) were included in the meta-analysis. Stenting was associated with a significantly increased risk of short-term any stroke (RR=1.555, 95% CI: 1.307-1.851,

Objective: Oblique root fractures consist of multiple, angled fracture lines extending from the root canal to the periodontal membrane along the long axis of the tooth. Oblique root fractures are injuries with poor prognosis which are rarely observed in teeth in which the root development is complete. Methods: A clinical and radiological inspection was performed of an eight-year-old patient who presented at our clinic for dental trauma. Luxation and oblique sectional root fractures in the maxillary incisors were found. The patient's root development was incomplete. He was treated with dental reposition. Fixation to the adjacent primary canine teeth was carried out using a 0.4 mm full circle orthodontic wire for fractured teeth with a semi-rigid splint. Stabilization of the teeth was ensured to protect the vitality of the fractured teeth. A splint was inserted under local anaesthesia and removed a month later. Results: The absence of pathological symptoms was determined radiologically and clinically. It was shown during a radiological examination of the patient a year later that root development inthe teeth with a root fracture had continued. There were no pathological complications. Conclusion: The current study finding of high recovery potential in young permanent teeth with root fracture is supported by those of other studies in the literature. Recovery in this case was successful because the patient presented timeously at the clinic after the trauma, there was a lack of infection, and the splint was only in situ for a month

Background:This study aimed to review the results related to head and jaw disorders in cases of ectodermal dysplasia. The evaluation of ectodermal dysplasia cases was made by clincal examination and examination of the jaw and facial areas radiologically and on cone-beam 3-dimensional dental tomography (CBCT) images. Material and Methods: In the 36 cases evaluated in the study, typical clinical findings of pure hypohidrotic ectodermal displasia (HED) were seen, such as missing teeth, dry skin, hair and nail disorders. CBCT images were obtained from 12 of the 36 cases, aged 1.5- 45 years, and orthodontic analyses were made on these images. Results: The clinical and radiological evaluations determined, hypodontia or oligodontia, breathing problems, sweating problems, a history of fever, sparse hair, saddle nose, skin peeling, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, finger and nail deformities, conical teeth anomalies, abnormal tooth root formation, tooth resorption in the root, gingivitis, history of epilepsy, absent lachrymal canals and vision problems in the cases which included to the study. Conclusions: Ectodermal dysplasia cases have a particular place in dentistry and require a professional, multi- disciplinary approach in respect of the chewing function, orthognathic problems, growth, oral and dental health. It has been understood that with data obtained from modern technologies such as three-dimensional dental tomography and the treatments applied, the quality of life of these cases can be improved

Demodex live in the face, hair-roots, hair follicle and oil glands in the skin. Symptoms of demodicosis (demodex) are often similar to other skin diseases. Demodex folliculorum is commonly found in the skin and is the most common ectoparasite in humans. Demodex can cause itching, erythema and lesion. Our aim was to determinate for the presence of Demodex in patients who came to Erciyes University Medical Faculty Department of Parasitology with various complaint between 2002-2011. Totally 86 cellophan-tape preparations taken from patients were examined for Demodex spp.. Thirty-nine of 58 women (45.3%) and 12 of 28 (14%) men were found positive for Demodex spp. in the study. It has been shown that Demodex spp. is common in patients with various dermatologic complaints in Kayseri, Turkey

Objective: Published studies on male breast cancer (MBC) and BRCA mutations are scarce and usually include, a small number of patients. The clinicopathological characteristics of BRCA mutant and wild-type MBC patients were compared in more than forty patients in this study.Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of MBC patients' clinical and histopathological data was conducted. To compare the patients' characteristics, chi-square test and Fisher's Exact test were utilized. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to examine the survival analysis. Results: In total 43 cases were reviewed. The average duration of follow-up was 35.8 months. BRCA mutations were found in 11 (25.6%) of the patients. BRCA1 mutations were found in four patients (9.3%), BRCA2 mutations in six patients (14%), and BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations in one patient (2.3%). The median age at diagnosis was 58 years old, and there was no statistically significant difference between groups (p = 0.7). Tumor location (p = 0.3), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 overexpression (p = 0.5), estrogen receptor status (p = 0.05), progesterone receptor status (p = 0.6), tumor stage (p = 0.9), lymph node positivity (p = 0.5), tumor histology (p = 0.06), and recurrence status (p = 0.6) were similar between BRCA-wild type and-mutated patients. Overall survival averaged 115.6 months (range: 76.0-155.3), with no statistically significant differences between groups (p = 0.6).Conclusion: This study investigated clinical and pathological characteristics and prognoses of BRCA wild and mutant-type MBC and these were similar in all groups studied
