A study of CP violation in B-+/- -> DK +/- and B-+/- -> D pi(+/-) decays with D -> (KSK +/-)-K-0 pi(-/+) final states
A first study of CP violation in the decay modes and , where labels a or meson and labels a or meson, is performed. The analysis uses the LHCb data set collected in collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb. The analysis is sensitive to the CP-violating CKM phase through seven observables: one charge asymmetry in each of the four modes and three ratios of the charge-integrated yields. The results are consistent with measurements of using other decay modes
Measurement of Upsilon production in collisions at root s=2.76 TeV
The production of , and mesons decaying into the dimuon final state is studied with the LHCb detector using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.3 collected in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of TeV. The differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching fractions are measured as functions of the transverse momentum and rapidity, over the ranges $p_{\rm T} Upsilon(1S) X) x B(Upsilon(1S) -> mu+mu-) = 1.111 +/- 0.043 +/- 0.044 nb, sigma(pp -> Upsilon(2S) X) x B(Upsilon(2S) -> mu+mu-) = 0.264 +/- 0.023 +/- 0.011 nb, sigma(pp -> Upsilon(3S) X) x B(Upsilon(3S) -> mu+mu-) = 0.159 +/- 0.020 +/- 0.007 nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic
Study of forward Z + jet production in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
A measurement of the +jet production cross-section in collisions at a centre-of-mass energy TeV is presented. The analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of recorded by the LHCb experiment. Results are shown with two jet transverse momentum thresholds, 10 and 20 GeV, for both the overall cross-section within the fiducial volume, and for six differential cross-section measurements. The fiducial volume requires that both the jet and the muons from the Z boson decay are produced in the forward direction (). HLA-F and LILRB1 Genetic Polymorphisms Associated with Alloimmunisation in Sickle Cell Disease
Red blood cell (RBC) transfusion remains a critical component in caring for the acute and chronic complications of sickle cell disease (SCD). Patient alloimmunisation is the main limitation of transfusion, which can worsen anaemia and lead to delayed haemolytic transfusion reaction or transfusion deadlock. Although biological risk factors have been identified for immunisation, patient alloimmunisation remains difficult to predict. We aimed to characterise genetic alloimmunisation factors to optimise the management of blood products compatible with extended antigen matching to ensure the self-sufficiency of labile blood products. Considering alloimmunisation in other clinical settings, like pregnancy and transplantation, many studies have shown that HLA Ib molecules (HLA-G, -E, and -F) are involved in tolerance mechanism; these molecules are ligands of immune effector cell receptors (LILRB1, LILRB2, and KIR3DS1). Genetic polymorphisms of these ligands and receptors have been linked to their expression levels and their influence on inflammatory and immune response modulation. Our hypothesis was that polymorphisms of HLA Ib genes and of their receptors are associated with alloimmunisation susceptibility in SCD patients. The alloimmunisation profile of thirty-seven adult SCD patients was analysed according to these genetic polymorphisms and transfusion history. Our results suggest that the alloimmunisation of SCD patients is linked to both HLA-F and LILRB1 genetic polymorphisms located in their regulatory region and associated with their protein expression level

Is climate change a threat for water uses in the Mediterranean region? Results from a survey at local scale
Water scarcity and water security are linked, not only through the direct effects ofwater shortages on eachwater users' access to water, but also because ofwater conflicts generated. Climate change is predicted to raise températures in the Mediterranean region and reduce rainfall, leading to a reduction in water yield and possibly worsening the situation of water resource shortages that Mediterranean regions are already experiencing. In its dissemination strategy, the EU FP7 CLIMB project addressed water security threats through an analysis of water uses and water use rivalries within a few target catchments distributed over the Mediterranean region. The present work explores whether climate change is locally perceived by stakeholders (water users and managers) as a key issue for their water uses and water security. Individual interviews, meetings, and compilation of questionnaires were conducted at five sites located in theMediterranean region. The methodology permitted an analysis of water use and its evolution in the water management context, an identification of the state of awareness of local stakeholders and of the pressures on water use and water use rivalries, and a prioritization of water uses. Currently, the main response to increasing water demand in the Mediterranean region, while not yet considering climate change as a driving force, is a progressive externalization of water resources, with limits represented by national borders and technological possibilities. Overall, ‘climate change’ was not mentioned by stakeholders during both interviews and in answers to the questionnaires. Even the prospect of decreasing precipitationwas not considered a relevant or threatening issue in the coming 20 years. This confirms the need to continue all efforts to disseminate the state of knowledge on climate change impacts in the Mediterranean region, such as water scarcity, especially to local water managers, as initiated by various research programs of the European Commission
