    Analysis of a New Delayed HBV Model with Exposed State and Immune Response to Infected Cells and Viruses

    We propose a comprehensive delayed HBV model, which not only considers the immune response to both infected cells and viruses and a time delay for the immune system to clear viruses but also incorporates an exposed state and the proliferation of hepatocytes. We prove the positivity and boundedness of solutions and analyze the global stability of two boundary equilibria and then study the local asymptotic stability and Hopf bifurcation of the positive (infection) equilibrium and also the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions. Moreover, we illustrate how the factors such as the time delay, the immune response to infected cells and viruses, and the proliferation of hepatocytes affect the dynamics of the model by numerical simulation

    Response of Soil Microbes to Vegetation Restoration in Coal Mining Subsidence Areas at Huaibei Coal Mine, China

    Vegetation restoration is an available way to ameliorate degraded lands. In order to study the response of soil microbes to vegetation restoration in coal mining subsidence areas, the composition and distribution of soil microbes were discussed through three plots: unsubsided area (CA), new subsided area (NSA), and old subsided area (OSA) with different vegetation restoration time in Huabei coal mine. Meanwhile, changes in soil catalase and urease activity were explored and the correlation between soil bacteria, fungi, and environmental factors was analysed. The results demonstrated that Nitrospira was the dominant bacteria in all areas sampled. Microorganisms in the 0–20 cm and 40–60 cm soil layers of OSA had the highest Simpson index, whereas the index in NSA was lowest (at all soil depths). The catalase activity in NSA was significantly higher than that in CA, and there was no significant difference in catalase activity with soil depth, while the urease activity declined gradually with increasing soil depth. The urease activity in the 20–60 cm soil layer of NSA and OSA was significantly higher than that of CA. Furthermore, the distribution of bacteria was mainly affected by soil organic matter, available potassium, available phosphorus, and alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, whereas pH and catalase activity mainly affected fungal distribution. These results implied that soil catalase activity in NSA and urease activity in the 20–40 cm soil layer of NSA and OSA were significantly enhanced after vegetation restoration, and that long-term plant restoration could improve soil fertility and soil microbial community diversity in coal mining areas

    CircCLTH promotes skeletal muscle development and regeneration

    Buffalo holds an excellent potential for beef production, and circRNA plays an important role in regulating myogenesis. However, the regulatory mechanism of circRNAs during buffalo skeletal muscle development has not been fully explored. In this study, circRNA expression profiles during the proliferation and differentiation stages of buffalo myoblasts were analysed by RNA-seq. Here, a total of 3,142 circRNAs candidates were identified, and 110 of them were found to be differentially expressed in the proliferation and differentiation stages of buffalo myoblast libraries. We focused on a 347 nt circRNA subsequently named circCLTH. It consists of three exons and is expressed specifically in muscle tissues. It is a highly conserved non-coding RNA with about 95% homology to both the human and the mouse circRNAs. The results of cell experiments and RNA pull-down assays indicated that circCLTH may capture PLEC protein, promote the proliferation and differentiation of myoblasts as well as inhibit apoptosis. Overexpression of circCLTH in vivo suggests that circCLTH is involved in the stimulation of skeletal muscle regeneration. In conclusion, we identified a novel noncoding regulator, circCLTH, that promotes proliferation and differentiation of myoblasts and skeletal muscles

    Controlled Folding of Single Crystal Graphene

    Folded graphene in which two layers are stacked with a twist angle between them has been predicted to exhibit unique electronic, thermal, and magnetic properties. We report the folding of a single crystal monolayer graphene film grown on a Cu(111) substrate by using a tailored substrate having a hydrophobic region and a hydrophilic region. Controlled film delamination from the hydrophilic region was used to prepare macroscopic folded graphene with good uniformity on the millimeter scale. This process was used to create many folded sheets each with a defined twist angle between the two sheets. By identifying the original lattice orientation of the monolayer graphene on Cu foil, or establishing the relation between the fold angle and twist angle, this folding technique allows for the preparation of twisted bilayer graphene films with defined stacking orientations and may also be extended to create folded structures of other two-dimensional nanomaterials.clos
