Predictions of the solar wind interaction with Comet Grigg-Skjellerup
The planned encounter of the Giotto spacecraft with comet Grigg-Skjellerup on 10th July 1992 promises to extend our knowledge of the solar wind interaction with comets substantially. While there have been spacecraft missions to comets before now, this mission is exploratory in the sense that the target comet is much older and there-fore it has a much lower gas production rate than comets Halley (by a factor approximately 200) or Giacobini-Zinner (factor approximately 10). Here we present theoretical predictions for the location of the bow shock and contact surface features, and compare similar predictions with the observed features at the previous encounters. We discuss the applicability of fluid-type theory which these models employ, in the case of strong and weak comets in the solar wind
Lowest dimensional example on non-universality of generalized In\"on\"u-Wigner contractions
We prove that there exists just one pair of complex four-dimensional Lie
algebras such that a well-defined contraction among them is not equivalent to a
generalized IW-contraction (or to a one-parametric subgroup degeneration in
conventional algebraic terms). Over the field of real numbers, this pair of
algebras is split into two pairs with the same contracted algebra. The example
we constructed demonstrates that even in the dimension four generalized
IW-contractions are not sufficient for realizing all possible contractions, and
this is the lowest dimension in which generalized IW-contractions are not
universal. Moreover, this is also the first example of nonexistence of
generalized IW-contraction for the case when the contracted algebra is not
characteristically nilpotent and, therefore, admits nontrivial diagonal
derivations. The lower bound (equal to three) of nonnegative integer parameter
exponents which are sufficient to realize all generalized IW-contractions of

Quasi-classical Lie algebras and their contractions
After classifying indecomposable quasi-classical Lie algebras in low
dimension, and showing the existence of non-reductive stable quasi-classical
Lie algebras, we focus on the problem of obtaining sufficient conditions for a
quasi-classical Lie algebras to be the contraction of another quasi-classical
algebra. It is illustrated how this allows to recover the Yang-Mills equations
of a contraction by a limiting process, and how the contractions of an algebra
may generate a parameterized families of Lagrangians for pairwise

Bronchial airway anastomotic complications after pediatric lung transplantation: Incidence, cause, management, and outcome
ObjectiveAirway complications are a recognized surgical complication and an important source of morbidity after adult lung transplantation. Little is known about these complications after pediatric lung transplantation.MethodsData of pediatric lung transplants performed between January 1990 and December 2002 in a single pediatric institution were reviewed retrospectively.ResultsA total of 214 patients, with a mean age of 9.8 ± 6.1 years (range 0.01-19.7 years), underwent 239 lung transplants: 231 bilateral and 8 single. Mean follow-up was 3.4 years. Forty-two airway complications requiring interventions (stenosis = 36; dehiscence = 4; malacia = 2) developed in 30 recipients (complication rate: 9% of 470 bronchial anastomoses at risk). There were airway complications in 29 bilateral lung transplants (13%) and 1 single lung transplant (13%). Mean time to diagnosis was 51 ± 27 days (median: 53, range 1-96 days), and diagnoses were made in 90% of patients within the first 3 months after transplantation. Preoperative Pseudomonas cepacia, postoperative fungal lung infection, and days on mechanical ventilator were found to be significant risk factors on multivariate analysis (P = .002, P = .013 and P = .003, respectively). Treatment included rigid bronchoscopic dilatation in 17 patients, balloon dilatation in 13 patients, and stent placement in 12 patients. Other treatments consisted of debridement, fibrin glue application, chest tube placement, and pneumonectomy followed by retransplantation. No patients died as a direct result of airway complications. There was no significant difference in the incidence of bronchiolitis obliterans or overall survival in comparison with patients who did not have airway complications.ConclusionsAirway complications are a significant cause of morbidity after pediatric lung transplantation. The majority are successfully treated, and patient outcomes are not adversely affected
Prog imperfective drift in ancient Greek? Reconsidering eimi 'be' with present participle
In this paper, I reconsider the diachrony of the Ancient Greek periphrastic construction of eimi 'be' with present participle by means of Bertinetto’s recently proposed model for the development of progressive grams (a process called ‘PROG imperfective drift’). While Bertinetto’s proposal sheds new light on the diachronic development of the construction, at the same time the evidence from Ancient Greek brings to light the need for modification and further refinement of the model (most importantly with regard to the role of what I call the ‘stative’ function, next to the diachronic source(s) of the construction). I furthermore show that eimi with present participle never fully developed a (focalized) progressive function, which can be explained in terms of ‘constructional competition’
Intersectionality and adolescent mental well-being: a cross-nationally comparative analysis of the interplay between immigration background, socio-economic status and gender
Purpose: Intersectionality theory highlights the importance of the interplay of multiple social group memberships in shaping individual mental well-being. This article investigates elements of adolescent mental well-being (life dissatisfaction and psychosomatic complaints) from an intersectional perspective. It tests mental well-being consequences of membership in combinations of multiple social groups and examines to what extent such intersectional effects depend on the national context (immigration and integration policies, national-level income, and gender equality).
Methods: Using Multilevel Analysis of Individual Heterogeneity and Discriminatory Accuracy, we assessed the role of the national context in shaping the interplay between immigration background, socioeconomic status, and gender, using data from 33 countries from the 2017/2018 Health Behaviour in School-aged Children survey.
Results: We found no uniform intersectionality effects across all countries. However, when allowing the interplay to vary by national context, results did point toward some intersectional effects. Some aggravated negative effects were found for members of multiple disadvantaged social groups in countries with low levels of income equality and restrictive migration policies, whereas enhanced positive effects were found for members of multiple advantaged groups in these countries. Similarly, mitigated negative effects of membership in multiple disadvantaged groups were shown in countries with higher levels of income equality and more inclusive migration policies, whereas mitigated positive effects were found for multiply advantaged individuals. Although for national-level gender equality results pointed in a similar direction, girls’ scores were counterintuitive. High national-level gender equality disproportionately benefitted groups of disadvantaged boys, whereas advantaged girls were doing worse than expected, and reversed effects were found for countries with low gender equality.
Conclusions: To fully understand social inequalities in adolescent mental well-being, the interplay between individual-level and national-level indicators must be explored
Photopatternable ionogels for electrochromic applications
This work describes the development of photopatternable ionogels based on a hybrid organic/inorganic sol–gel material and both phosphonium (trihexyltetradecylphosphonium dicyanamide [P6,6,6,14][dca],
trihexyltetradecylphosphonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-amide [P6,6,6,14][NTf2]) and imidazolium (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate [emIm][FAP]) room
temperature ionic liquids (RTILs).
Ionogels were prepared via a two step process with the RTIL
content varied between 40 and 80 w/w%, and characterised via Raman and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. 1 and 2 photon polymerisation was performed on the hybrid ionogels using photolithography, resulting in three dimensional structures that were characterised using scanning electron microscopy. Electrochromic ionogels were prepared by addition of ethyl viologen dibromide
(EV) to an ionogel containing [emIm][FAP] and hybrid sol–gel material. This composition was photopolymerised
on ITO electrodes by UV irradiation and subsequentially characterised via UV/Vis spectroelectrochemistry. It was also possible to fabricate a solid state electrochromic device based on EV and switch between the colourless (oxidised) and blue (reduced) forms using a perturbation signalof 1 V
