Morphological structures and drug release effect of multiple electrospun nanofibre membrane systems based on PLA, PCL, and PCL/Magnetic nanoparticle composites
Biopolymers are good carrier materials in relation to efficient release sustainability for encapsulated drugs. In particular, electrospun polymer/composite fibre membranes can offer greater benefits owing to their competitive release features as well as large specific surface areas. In this study, multiple electrospun nanofibre membrane systems were utilised including different material systems such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), and PCL/magnetic nanoparticle (MP) composites loaded with tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) as a therapeutic compound for their potential use in drug delivery applications. Such electrospun nanofibres were investigated to understand how composite constituents could tailor surface morphology for drug release control and biodegradation effect of PCL electrospun nanofibers on a long term for different drug release systems. Fibre diameter appeared to be decreased considerably with the addition of TCH drug. It was also evident that average fibre diameter was reduced when embedding MPs owing to the enhancement of solution conductivity. The encapsulation of TCH drug was found to be effective, as evidenced by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data revealed no significant change in the thermal stability of PCL with the inclusion of TCH and MPs. However, the use of TCH to PLA delayed the thermal degradation. Glass transition temperature (TQ) and melting temperature (TM) of PCL were decreased with the inclusion of MPs and TCH. The degree of crystallinity (XC) for PCL diminished when incorporated with MPs. Additional TCH to PLA, PCL, and PCL/MP nanocomposites resulted in a moderate decrease in (XC). TCH might be dispersed in an amorphous state within nanofibre membranes. Over the short-term periods, it was clearly seen that TCH release from PCL nanofibre membranes was higher as opposed to PLC/MP and PLA counterparts. On the contrary, such a drug release from PLC membranes became relatively slow owing to its high (XC). Further, the mass loss results were consistent with those obtained from in vitro drug release. Overall, TCH release kinetics of PCL/TCH nanofibre membranes were better estimated by Zeng model as opposed to PLA/TCH counterparts
Charged and Pseudoscalar Higgs production at a Muon Collider
We consider single charged Higgs () and pseudoscalar Higgs ()
production in association with a gauge boson at colliders. We find
that the tree-level t-channel and s-channel contributions to are enhanced for large values of , allowing
sizeable cross-sections whose analogies at colliders would be very
small. These processes provide attractive new ways of producing such particles
at colliders and are superior to the conventional methods in
regions of parameter space.Comment: 11 pages Latex, 5 figures, formulae added in sections 2.2 and 2.3,

Confront Holographic QCD with Regge Trajectories of vectors and axial-vectors
We derive the general 5-dimension metric structure of the system in
type II superstring theory, and demonstrate the physical meaning of the
parameters characterizing the 5-dimension metric structure of the
\textit{holographic} QCD model by relating them to the parameters describing
Regge trajectories. By matching the spectra of vector mesons with
deformed soft-wall model, we find that the spectra of vector mesons
can be described very well in the soft-wall model, i.e,
soft-wall model. We then investigate how well the soft-wall
model can describe the Regge trajectory of axial-vector mesons . We find
that the constant component of the 5-dimension mass square of axial-vector
mesons plays an efficient role to realize the chiral symmetry breaking in the
vacuum, and a small negative correction in the 5-dimension mass square is
helpful to realize the chiral symmetry restoration in high excitation states.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure and 3 tables, one section adde
A Holographic QCD and Excited Baryons from String Theory
We study baryons of arbitrary isospin in a stringy holographic QCD model. In
this D4-D8 holographic setting, the flavor symmetry is promoted to a gauge
symmetry in the bulk, and produces, as KK modes of the gauge field, pions and
spin one mesons of low energy QCD. Baryons of arbitrary isospins are
represented as instanton solitons with isospin and spin quantum numbers locked,
in a manner similar to the Skyrmion model. The soliton picture leads to a
natural effective field theory of arbitrary baryons interacting with mesons.
Couplings of baryons to axial mesons, including pions, are dominated in the
large limit by a direct coupling to the flavor field strength in five
dimensions. We delineate the relevant couplings and determine their strengths.
This work generalizes part of hep-th/0701276 and arXiv:0705.2632 [hep-th] to
all excited baryons. Due to technical difficulties in introducing relativistic
higher spin fields, we perform all computations in the nonrelativistic regime,
which suffices for the leading predictions.Comment: 33 pages, two references added, JHEP versio
Dynamics of Baryons from String Theory and Vector Dominance
We consider a holographic model of QCD from string theory, a la Sakai and
Sugimoto, and study baryons. In this model, mesons are collectively realized as
a five-dimensional \ Yang-Mills field and baryons
are classically identified as solitons with a unit Pontryagin number
and electric charges. The soliton is shown to be very small in the large
't Hooft coupling limit, allowing us to introduce an effective field . Its coupling to the mesons are dictated by the soliton structure, and
consists of a direct magnetic coupling to the field strength as well
as a minimal coupling to the gauge field. Upon the dimensional
reduction, this effective action reproduces all interaction terms between
nucleons and an infinite tower of mesons in a manner consistent with the large
expansion. We further find that all electromagnetic interactions, as
inferred from the same effective action via a holographic prescription, are
mediated by an infinite tower of vector mesons, rendering the baryon
electromagnetic form factors completely vector-dominated as well. We estimate
nucleon-meson couplings and also the anomalous magnetic moments, which compare
well with nature.Comment: 65pages, 3 figures, vector mesons and axial-vector mesons are now

Single gluino production in the R-parity lepton number violating MSSM at the LHC
We examine the -violating signal of single gluino production
associated with a charged lepton or neutrino at the large hadron collider
(LHC), in the model of R-parity relaxed supersymmetric model. If the parameters
in the supersymmetric interactions are not too small, and the
mass of gluino is considered in the range from several GeV (as the Lightest
Supersymmetric Particle) to 800 GeV, the cross section of the single gluino
production via Drell-Yan processes can be in the order of
femto barn, and that via gluon fusion in the order of femto
barn. If the gluino decay can be well detected in the CERN LHC, this process
provides a prospective way to probe supersymmetry and violation.Comment: LaTex, 22 pages, 5 EPS file

Analysis and prevention of dent defects formed during strip casting of twin-induced plasticity steels
Rapid-solidification experiments were conducted for understanding dent defects formed during strip casting of twin-induced plasticity (TWIP) steels. The rapid-solidification experiments reproduced the dent defects formed on these steels, which were generally located at valleys of the shot-blasted roughness on the substrate. The rapid-solidification experiment results reveal that the number of dips, the Mn content of the steel, and the surface roughness of the substrate affect the depth and size of dents formed on the solidified-shell surfaces, while the composition of the atmosphere gases and the carbon content of the steel are not factors. The formation of dents was attributed to the entrapment of gases inside the roughness valleys of the substrate surface and their volume expansion due to the temperature of the steel melt and the latent heat. The dents could be prevented when the thermal expansion of gases was suppressed by making longitudinal grooves on the substrate surface, which allowed the entrapped gases to escape. Sound solidified shells were obtained by optimizing the width and depth of the longitudinal grooves and by controlling the shot-blasting conditions.ope
Green function techniques in the treatment of quantum transport at the molecular scale
The theoretical investigation of charge (and spin) transport at nanometer
length scales requires the use of advanced and powerful techniques able to deal
with the dynamical properties of the relevant physical systems, to explicitly
include out-of-equilibrium situations typical for electrical/heat transport as
well as to take into account interaction effects in a systematic way.
Equilibrium Green function techniques and their extension to non-equilibrium
situations via the Keldysh formalism build one of the pillars of current
state-of-the-art approaches to quantum transport which have been implemented in
both model Hamiltonian formulations and first-principle methodologies. We offer
a tutorial overview of the applications of Green functions to deal with some
fundamental aspects of charge transport at the nanoscale, mainly focusing on
applications to model Hamiltonian formulations.Comment: Tutorial review, LaTeX, 129 pages, 41 figures, 300 references,

Comparative study of sustained-release lipid microparticles and solid dispersions containing ibuprofen
Ibuprofen is one of the most important non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. In its pure state, ibuprofen presents poor physical and mechanical characteristics and its use in solid dosage forms needs the addition of excipients that improve these properties. The selection of the best excipients and the most suitable pharmaceutical dosage form to carry ibuprofen is very important for the industrial success of this drug. Given these factors, lipid microparticles and solid dispersions of ibuprofen with cetyl alcohol, stearic acid, and hydrogenated castor oil were prepared. These formulations were intended to improve the physical and mechanical characteristics and to sustain the release of this drug. Physical mixtures were also prepared with the same ingredients in similar proportions. The solid dispersions of ibuprofen/stearic acid and ibuprofen/hydrogenated castor oil showed the best flow characteristics compared with pure ibuprofen. Further, gelatin capsules filled with lipid microparticles and solid dispersions were submitted to dissolution tests in order to study the influence of the prepared systems in the release profiles of ibuprofen. Prolonged release of ibuprofen was achieved with the lipid microparticles and solid dispersions prepared with the different types of excipients.O ibuprofeno é um dos antiinflamatórios não esteróides mais utilizados no tratamento de patologias associadas a processos inflamatórios.
