Visual Social Media Use Moderates the Relationship between Initial Problematic Internet Use and Later Narcissism
Background:
Little is known about the temporal directionality of relationships between problematic internet use and personality disorders such as narcissism.
Objective:
Although these two constructs are related at a single time, no existent study has determined whether initial problematic internet use is more strongly associated with subsequent narcissism, or vice versa. So, the aim of the research is to verify if problematic internet use predicts the narcissism or vice versa.
Methods:
Seventy-four university student participants were studied over a four-month period, and completed the Narcissism Personality Inventory, and Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire, at baseline and follow-up.
Results:
The results demonstrated a relationship between problematic internet use and narcissism at baseline. Time-lagged correlations demonstrated that problematic internet use at baseline was positively related to narcissism four-months later, but not vice versa for social media users whose use was primarily visual. This relationship did not hold for social media users whose use was primarily verbal.
Conclusion:
These results suggest that problematic internet use may serve to discharge narcissistic personality traits for those who use social media in a visual way, but not for those who do not engage in that form of internet use
Grain size, composition, porosity and permeability contrasts within cross-bedded sandstones in Tertiary fluvial deposits, central Spain
Permeability measured with a portable probe pcrmcflmeter on outcrops of cross·bcdded sandstones ranges
betwecn 0·9 and 19 O. The highest pcrmeability (2-19 0 with an avcrage of8·5 D) occurs in thc coarsest
grained foresct laminae (CFL). intermediate values (2-120 with an average of 5·3 D) occur in fincr
grained foreset laminac (FFL) and thc lowest values (0·9-1 0 0 with un avcrage of 4·8 D) occur in boltomsct
laycrs (BL). In the cross·bcds the uverage grain sizc rangcs from medium graincd sand in the CFL to finc
grained s,lnd in thc FFL and BL. In all three subf'lcies. the average size of the primary pores is
approximately It/> unit smaller than the averagc grain size. The abundance of unstablc carbonatc clasts
correlatcs with incrcasing avcrage grain size, micritic clasts being most abundant in the CFL. Converscly.
quartz content incrcascs with decreasing grain size and is highest in the FFL and BL. Oiagenetic
destruction of primary porosity by compact ion and cementation. as well IS generation of sccondary porosity
through dissolution, were controlled by the original mineralogical composition of the sand. Contrasts in
grain size detcrmine the primary pore size contrasts and differences in composition bctwecn CFL. FFL
and BL. Permeability contrasts reflect variations in averagc primary pore size rather than differenccs in
total porosity. Probe permeability contrasts between eFL. FFL and BL depend on contrasts in llverage
pore size and contrasts in mineralogical composition between the subfacies
Resonances in 19Ne with relevance to the astrophysically important 18F(p,α)15O reaction
The main source of gamma ray emission from novae below 511 keV is likely to be associated with the β+ decay of 18F. The main uncertainty in the abundance of this nucleus comes from the 18F(p,α)15O reaction. In 2006, through microscopic techniques, two previously unseen energy levels in the compound 19Ne nucleus, at 6 and 7.9 MeV were proposed by Dufour and Descouvemont. In light of this there have been two published attempts in the search for the higher of these states, by Murphy et al. and Dalouzy et al. The aim of this work is to address the contradiction between these works and come to a conclusion as to the possible existence of this state. An experiment has taken place that utilised a 4 MeV/u 18F beam, degraded to ∼1.9 MeV/u, incident upon a thick CH2 target. The data has been analysed within the R-matrix formalism and preliminary results are presented here.SCOPUS: cp.pinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
