    A Study of Problems of Child Labour in Diamond industry in Selected Cities of Gujarat

    It is clear that the practice of child labour in the society would deprive the child of his basic human rights; his right to education and learning; his right to entertainment and interact with peers as also his right to enjoy the beauty of the world around him and to develop a rounded personality. The children drawn to the labour force are not themselves choosing to work at such an early age. They are rather compelled to join the labour force against their will by certain familial and social circumstances. The circumstances which bring the minor children to work in the labour force can be characterized as socioeconomic compulsion such as poverty, unemployment of the adult family members etc. The present study has been conducted in the urban localities of Gujarat state. The study focuses mainly on the factors, which compel the children to adopt occupational roles at a tender age. This study is based on primary data collected from 400 working children in Diamond Industry of Gujarat state

    The cost-effectiveness implications of suboptimal treatment for different severities of Alzheimer's disease in the UK.

    OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the impact of suboptimal treatment, defined in terms of lower population coverage (percentage of total patient population receiving optimal treatment) and delay to treatment on the cost-effectiveness of pharmacological therapies approved for the treatment of different severities of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the UK. METHODS: A 5-year Markov model was used to simulate transition to full-time care, as delay and coverage were varied for AD patients with mild-to-moderate and moderate-to-severe dementia. The time-varying predictive equations, resource use, utilities, treatment effects and mortality were derived using published sources. RESULTS: For the cohort with moderate-to-severe dementia, cost-effectiveness was optimised when delay was minimised and coverage maximised. For mild-to-moderate dementia, results were similar but varied widely depending on the inputted cost of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. CONCLUSIONS: The average cost-effectiveness of pharmacological treatments for AD is sensitive to delays to treatment and population coverage. The results of this study can inform future healthcare policy in order to maximise cost-effectiveness of pharmacological therapies for AD

    Dielectric breakdown in spin polarized Mott insulator

    Nonlinear response of a Mott insulator to external electric field, corresponding to dielectric breakdown phenomenon, is studied within of a one-dimensional half-filled Hubbard model. It is shown that in the limit of nearly spin polarized insulator the decay rate of the ground state into excited holon-doublon pairs can be evaluated numerically as well to high accuracy analytically. Results show that the threshold field depends on the charge gap as FthΔ3/2F_{th} \propto \Delta^{3/2}. Numerical results on small systems indicate on the persistence of a similar mechanism for the breakdown for decreasing magnetization down to unpolarised system.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure

    Interaction corrections at intermediate temperatures: dephasing time

    We calculate the temperature dependence of the weak localization correction in a two dimensional system at arbitrary relation between temperature, TT and the elastic mean free time. We describe the crossover in the dephasing time τϕ(T){\tau_\phi(T)} between the high temperature, 1/τϕT2lnT1/\tau_\phi \simeq T^2 \ln T, and the low temperature 1/τϕT1/\tau_\phi \simeq T behaviors. The prefactors in these dependences are not universal, but are determined by the Fermi liquid constant characterising the spin exchange interaction.Comment: 4 pages, to appear in PRB, minor errors corrected, added reference

    A study on biochemical parameters in clinically suspected and laboratory- confirmed leptospirosis cases was conducted in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Out of 50 clinically suspected samples of leptospirosis, 38% were positive from both ELISA IgM and rapid card test. In the present study, liver markers such as bilirubin, Serum Glutamate Oxalo acetic Transaminase (SGOT) and Serum Glutamate Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) encountered elevation 68%, 100% and 89% respectively in leptospiosis positive patent while 89% and 48 %of positive patients showed elevation in kidney marker, creatinine and blood urea. On the basis of liver and renal functions, a hospital can develop its own clinical algorithm to suspect the case of leptospirosis

    A study on dog bite incidence in Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, India

    The injuries caused by dog bites have grown to such epidemic proportions that they are now considered a major public health concern. The epidemiology of dog bites in the UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli has been evaluated, for the year 2012. This assessment included victims age, sex, biting site and season of the year. During the study, a total of 938 dog bites, were reported from aforesaid place. Of all the dog bites reported, 39.6% victim belonged to age group upto 0-15 year (children) and 60.4% were more than 15 years old (adults). The majority of the incidents 40.8% occurred during the pre monsoon period (1-20 weeks). There was no case of rabies. There is a need to educate the public about the magnitude of dog-bite problems, enforce leash laws and impound stray dogs as an integral part of prevention programs

    A new strategy based on lentiviral-mediated delivery of mutant huntingtin (htt) was used to create a genetic model of Huntington's disease (HD) in rats and to assess the relative contribution of polyglutamine (CAG) repeat size, htt expression levels, and protein length on the onset and specificity of the pathology. Lentiviral vectors coding for the first 171, 853, and 1520 amino acids of wild-type (19 CAG) or mutant htt (44, 66, and 82 CAG) driven by either the phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK) or the cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoters were injected in rat striatum. A progressive pathology characterized by sequential appearance of ubiquitinated htt aggregates, loss of dopamine- and cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein of 32 kDa staining, and cell death was observed over 6 months with mutant htt. Earlier onset and more severe pathology occurred with shorter fragments, longer CAG repeats, and higher expression levels. Interestingly, the aggregates were predominantly located in the nucleus of PGK-htt171-injected rats, whereas they were present in both the nucleus and processes of CMV-htt171-injected animals expressing lower transgene levels. Finally, a selective sparing of interneurons was observed in animals injected with vectors expressing mutant htt. These data demonstrate that lentiviral-mediated expression of mutant htt provides a robust in vivo genetic model for selective neural degeneration that will facilitate future studies on the pathogenesis of cell death and experimental therapeutics for HD

The silver pomfret Pampas argenteus Is locally called "Vichhuda" and the black pomfret, Formio niger is called "Halva". The former dominates the pomfret fishery with peak landings in the monsoon and post monsoon period. The black pomfret does not show any regular pattern of landing

One of the Panchakarma, the Nasyakarma is considered the best and the most specific procedure for disease of Urdhvajatrugatarogas like Pratishyay, Shirahshoola etc. It is also useful in other systemic diseases like Ardita, Kampavata. According to Ayurveda, the nose is the gate way to Shirah. So, systemically performed Nasyakarma cures almost all the diseases of Urdhvajatrugata rogas. Other procedures of Panchakarma are also very effective in numerous diseases according to condition but Nasya Karma is very easy to perform and there are no many strict regimens to follow during Nasya Karma but it will give effectual results in loads of diseases due to direct contact with nerve terminals by the nasal mucosa. So, it is demand of time to know about Nasyakarma and its importance. In this direction, to evaluate the actual efficacy of different Ayurveda treatment modalities; few works on Nasya Karma are compiled here. In current attempt, it has been planned to review as such works done on Nasyakarma. By this Present study it can be stated that in various diseases Nasya Karma is found to be significantly effective. It proved to be a better therapy as compared to only oral drug because it provides affect for longer duration than oral drug
