Theory, reality, and possibilities for a digital/communicative socialist network society
Digital capitalism is guided by the organising principles of digital automation, information processing, and communication. It rests on the consolidation of relations of exploitation of digital labour based on flexibility and generating precarity. It makes profit from user data under conditions of surveillance. What would an alternative paradigm look like? This paper aims to sketch a possible socialist society resting on digital technology but organised on a different logic, namely that of autonomous production, leisure, and social engagement. It draws on relevant theories of the Left, evaluates them against the reality of digital capitalism, and suggests structural and user practice alternatives that can pave the way towards a digital/communicative socialism. This paper engages with the works of Czech philosopher Radovan Richta (1924-1983) and Austrian-French philosopher André Gorz (1923-2007). It shows that their ideas on the scientific and technological revolution and post-industrial socialism are highly relevant for the analysis and discussion of digital/communicative socialism
Bringing forth mathematical concepts: signifying sensorimotor enactment in fields of promoted action
Inspired by Enactivist philosophy yet in dialog with it, we ask what theory of embodied cognition might best serve in articulating implications of Enactivism for mathematics education. We offer a blend of Dynamical Systems Theory and Sociocultural Theory as an analytic lens on micro-processes of action-to-concept evolution. We also illustrate the methodological utility of design-research as an approach to such theory development. Building on constructs from ecological psychology, cultural anthropology, studies of motor-skill acquisition, and somatic awareness practices, we develop the notion of an “instrumented field of promoted action”. Children operating in this field first develop environmentally coupled motor-action coordinations. Next, we introduce into the field new artifacts. The children adopt the artifacts as frames of action and reference, yet in so doing they shift into disciplinary semiotic systems. We exemplify our thesis with two selected excerpts from our videography of Grade 4–6 volunteers participating in task-based clinical interviews centered on the Mathematical Imagery Trainer for Proportion. In particular, we present and analyze cases of either smooth or abrupt transformation in learners’ operatory schemes. We situate our design framework vis-à-vis seminal contributions to mathematics education research
The shuffle Hopf algebra and quasiplanar Wick products
The operator valued distributions which arise in quantum field theory on the
noncommutative Minkowski space can be symbolized by a generalization of chord
diagrams, the dotted chord diagrams. In this framework, the combinatorial
aspects of quasiplanar Wick products are understood in terms of the shuffle
Hopf algebra of dotted chord diagrams, leading to an algebraic characterization
of quasiplanar Wick products as a convolution. Moreover, it is shown that the
distributions do not provide a weight system for universal knot invariants.Comment: 16 pages, prepared for the conference proceedings "Non commutative

Shear viscosity in magnetized neutron star crust
The electron shear viscosity due to Coulomb scattering of degenerate
electrons by atomic nuclei throughout a magnetized neutron star crust is
calculated. The theory is based on the shear viscosity coefficient calculated
neglecting magnetic fields but taking into account gaseous, liquid and solid
states of atomic nuclei, multiphonon scattering processes, and finite sizes of
the nuclei albeit neglecting the effects of electron band structure. The
effects of strong magnetic fields are included in the relaxation time
approximation with the effective electron relaxation time taken from the
field-free theory. The viscosity in a magnetized matter is described by five
shear viscosity coefficients. They are calculated and their dependence on the
magnetic field and other parameters of dense matter is analyzed. Possible
applications and open problems are outlined.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, EPL, accepte
Developments in space power components for power management and distribution
Advanced power electronic components development for space applications is discussed. The components described include transformers, inductors, semiconductor devices such as transistors and diodes, remote power controllers, and transmission lines
Interrelationships between interstellar and interplanetary grains
The relationship between solar system dust (SSD) and interstellar dust particles (ISMD) is being reconsidered because of the discovery of isotopic anomalies in meteorites. Meteoritic, circumstellar/meteoritic, interstellar/meteoritic, planetary, and cometary data are reviewed
Feynman diagrams as a weight system: four-loop test of a four-term relation
At four loops there first occurs a test of the four-term relation derived by
the second author in the course of investigating whether counterterms from
subdivergence-free diagrams form a weight system. This test relates
counterterms in a four-dimensional field theory with Yukawa and
interactions, where no such relation was previously suspected. Using
integration by parts, we reduce each counterterm to massless two-loop two-point
integrals. The four-term relation is verified, with , demonstrating non-trivial cancellation of
the trefoil knot and thus supporting the emerging connection between knots and
counterterms, via transcendental numbers assigned by four-dimensional field
theories to chord diagrams. Restrictions to scalar couplings and renormalizable
interactions are found to be necessary for the existence of a pure four-term
relation. Strong indications of richer structure are given at five loops.Comment: minor changes, references updated, 10 pages, LaTe
