A rotating disk around the very young massive star AFGL 490
We observed the embedded, young 8--10 Msun star AFGL 490 at subarcsecond
resolution with the Plateau de Bure Interferometer in the C17O (2--1)
transition and found convincing evidence that AFGL 490 is surrounded by a
rotating disk. Using two-dimensional modeling of the physical and chemical disk
structure coupled to line radiative transfer, we constrain its basic
parameters. We obtain a relatively high disk mass of 1 Msun and a radius of ~
1500 AU. A plausible explanation for the apparent asymmetry of the disk

The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is under control: an orchestrated flip of the chiral link between structure and magnetism for FeCoSi
Monosilicides of 3d-metals frequently show a chiral magnetic ordering with
the absolute configuration defined by the chirality of the crystal structure
and the sign of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Structural and
magnetic chiralities are probed here for FeCoSi series and their
mutual relationship is found to be dependent on the chemical composition. The
chirality of crystal structure was previously shown to be governed by crystal
growth, and the value of the DMI is nearly the same for all monosilicides of
Fe, Co and Mn. Our findings indicate that the sign of the DMI in
FeCoSi is controlled by the Co composition , thus, opening a
route towards controlled design of chiral spintronics devices.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
Syzygies of torsion bundles and the geometry of the level l modular variety over M_g
We formulate, and in some cases prove, three statements concerning the purity
or, more generally the naturality of the resolution of various rings one can
attach to a generic curve of genus g and a torsion point of order l in its
Jacobian. These statements can be viewed an analogues of Green's Conjecture and
we verify them computationally for bounded genus. We then compute the
cohomology class of the corresponding non-vanishing locus in the moduli space
R_{g,l} of twisted level l curves of genus g and use this to derive results
about the birational geometry of R_{g, l}. For instance, we prove that R_{g,3}
is a variety of general type when g>11 and the Kodaira dimension of R_{11,3} is
greater than or equal to 19. In the last section we explain probabilistically
the unexpected failure of the Prym-Green conjecture in genus 8 and level 2.Comment: 35 pages, appeared in Invent Math. We correct an inaccuracy in the

NGC 2264 IRS1: The central engine and its cavity
We present a high-resolution study of NGC 2264 IRS1 in CS(2-1) and in the
3-mm continuum using the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer. We complement
these radio data with images taken at 2.2, 4.6, and 11.9 micron. The combined
information allow a new interpretation of the closest environment of NGC 2264
IRS1. No disk around the B-type star IRS1 was found. IRS1 and its low-mass
companions are located in a low-density cavity which is surrounded by the
remaining dense cloud core which has a clumpy shell-like structure. Strong
evidence for induced on-going star formation was found in the surroundings of
IRS1. A deeply embedded very young stellar object 20 arcsec to the north of
IRS1 is powering a highly collimated bipolar outflow. The object 8 in the
closer environment of IRS1 is a binary surrounded by dusty circumbinary

Reorientation of Spin Density Waves in Cr(001) Films induced by Fe(001) Cap Layers
Proximity effects of 20 \AA thin Fe layers on the spin density waves (SDWs)
in epitaxial Cr(001) films are revealed by neutron scattering. Unlike in bulk
Cr we observe a SDW with its wave vector Q pointing along only one {100}
direction which depends dramatically on the film thickness t_{Cr}. For t_{Cr} <
250 \AA the SDW propagates out-of-plane with the spins in the film plane. For
t_{Cr} > 1000 \AA the SDW propagates in the film plane with the spins
out-of-plane perpendicular to the in-plane Fe moments. This reorientation
transition is explained by frustration effects in the antiferromagnetic
interaction between Fe and Cr across the Fe/Cr interface due to steps at the

Geometric invariant theory of syzygies, with applications to moduli spaces
We define syzygy points of projective schemes, and introduce a program of
studying their GIT stability. Then we describe two cases where we have managed
to make some progress in this program, that of polarized K3 surfaces of odd
genus, and of genus six canonical curves. Applications of our results include
effectivity statements for divisor classes on the moduli space of odd genus K3
surfaces, and a new construction in the Hassett-Keel program for the moduli

Phase Diagram of Multilayer Magnetic Structures
Multilayer "ferromagnet-layered antiferromagnet" (Fe/Cr) structures
frustrated due to the roughness of layer interfaces are studied by numerical
modeling methods. The "thickness-roughness" phase diagrams for the case of thin
ferromagnetic film on the surface of bulk antiferromagnet and for two
ferromagnetic layers separated by an antiferromagnetic interlayer are obtained
and the order parameter distributions for all phases are found. The phase
transitions nature in such systems is considered. The range of applicability
for the "magnetic proximity model" proposed by Slonczewski is evaluated.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure

e dos estudos realizados no sentido de compreender como é que a academia
cientí ca procura debelar esta problemática. Duas questões são
pertinentes neste debate: a primeira refere-se à con guração teórico-constitucional
do sistema de governo cabo-verdiano e a outra à prática política
e legislativa.

Rotating molecular outflows: the young T Tauri star in CB26
The disk-outflow connection is thought to play a key role in extracting
excess angular momentum from a forming proto-star. Though jet rotation has been
observed in a few objects, no rotation of molecular outflows has been
unambiguously reported so far. We report new millimeter-interferometric
observations of the edge-on T Tauri star - disk system in the isolated Bok
globule CB26. The aim of these observations was to study the disk-outflow
relation in this 1Myr old low-mass young stellar object. The IRAM PdBI array
was used to observe 12CO(2-1) at 1.3mm in two configurations, resulting in
spectral line maps with 1.5 arcsec resolution. We use an empirical
parameterized steady-state outflow model combined with 2-D line radiative
transfer calculations and chi^2-minimization in parameter space to derive a
best-fit model and constrain parameters of the outflow. The data reveal a
previously undiscovered collimated bipolar molecular outflow of total length
~2000 AU, escaping perpendicular to the plane of the disk. We find peculiar
kinematic signatures that suggest the outflow is rotating with the same
orientation as the disk. However, we could not ultimately exclude jet
precession or two misaligned flows as possible origin of the observed peculiar
velocity field. There is indirect indication that the embedded driving source
is a binary system, which, together with the youth of the source, could provide
the clue to the observed kinematic features of the outflow. CB26 is so far the
most promising source to study the rotation of a molecular outflow. Assuming
that the outflow is rotating, we compute and compare masses, mass flux, angular
momenta, and angular momentum flux of disk and outflow and derive disk
dispersal timescales of 0.5...1 Myr, comparable to the age of the system.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, to appear in Astronomy & Astrophysic
Species specific differences in use of ANP32 proteins by influenza A virus
Influenza A viruses (IAV) are subject to species barriers that prevent frequent zoonotic transmission and pandemics. One of these barriers is the poor activity of avian IAV polymerases in human cells. Differences between avian and mammalian ANP32 proteins underlie this host range barrier. Human ANP32A and ANP32B homologues both support function of human-adapted influenza polymerase but do not support efficient activity of avian IAV polymerase which requires avian ANP32A. We show here that the gene currently designated as avian ANP32B is evolutionarily distinct from mammalian ANP32B, and that chicken ANP32B does not support IAV polymerase activity even of human-adapted viruses. Consequently, IAV relies solely on chicken ANP32A to support its replication in chicken cells. Amino acids 129I and 130N, accounted for the inactivity of chicken ANP32B. Transfer of these residues to chicken ANP32A abolished support of IAV polymerase. Understanding ANP32 function will help develop antiviral strategies and aid the design of influenza virus resilient genome edited chickens
