Regularized pointwise map recovery from functional correspondence
The concept of using functional maps for representing dense correspondences between deformable shapes has proven to be extremely effective in many applications. However, despite the impact of this framework, the problem of recovering the point-to-point correspondence from a given functional map has received surprisingly little interest. In this paper, we analyse the aforementioned problem and propose a novel method for reconstructing pointwise correspondences from a given functional map. The proposed algorithm phrases the matching problem as a regularized alignment problem of the spectral embeddings of the two shapes. Opposed to established methods, our approach does not require the input shapes to be nearly-isometric, and easily extends to recovering the point-to-point correspondence in part-to-whole shape matching problems. Our numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach leads to a significant improvement in accuracy in several challenging cases

Microelectrode arrays and the use of PEG-functionalized diblock copolymer coatings
PEG-modified diblock copolymer surfaces have been examined for their compatibility with microelectrode array based analytical methods. The use of PEG-modified polymer surfaces on the arrays was initially problematic because the redox couples used in the experiments were adsorbed by the polymer. This led the current measured by cyclic voltammetry for the redox couple to be unstable and increase with time. However, two key findings allow the experiments to be successful. First, after multiple cyclic voltammograms the current associated with the redox couple does stabilize so that a good baseline current can be established. Second, the rate at which the current stabilizes is consistent every time a particular coated array is used. Hence, multiple analytical experiments can be conducted on an array coated with a PEG-modified diblock copolymer and the data obtained is comparable as long as the data for each experiment is collected at a consistent time point
TRIP13 is a protein-remodeling AAA+ ATPase that catalyzes MAD2 conformation switching.
The AAA+ family ATPase TRIP13 is a key regulator of meiotic recombination and the spindle assembly checkpoint, acting on signaling proteins of the conserved HORMA domain family. Here we present the structure of the Caenorhabditis elegans TRIP13 ortholog PCH-2, revealing a new family of AAA+ ATPase protein remodelers. PCH-2 possesses a substrate-recognition domain related to those of the protein remodelers NSF and p97, while its overall hexameric architecture and likely structural mechanism bear close similarities to the bacterial protein unfoldase ClpX. We find that TRIP13, aided by the adapter protein p31(comet), converts the HORMA-family spindle checkpoint protein MAD2 from a signaling-active 'closed' conformer to an inactive 'open' conformer. We propose that TRIP13 and p31(comet) collaborate to inactivate the spindle assembly checkpoint through MAD2 conformational conversion and disassembly of mitotic checkpoint complexes. A parallel HORMA protein disassembly activity likely underlies TRIP13's critical regulatory functions in meiotic chromosome structure and recombination
Energy Momentum Tensor and Marginal Deformations in Open String Field Theory
Marginal boundary deformations in a two dimensional conformal field theory
correspond to a family of classical solutions of the equations of motion of
open string field theory. In this paper we develop a systematic method for
relating the parameter labelling the marginal boundary deformation in the
conformal field theory to the parameter labelling the classical solution in
open string field theory. This is done by first constructing the
energy-momentum tensor associated with the classical solution in open string
field theory using Noether method, and then comparing this to the answer
obtained in the conformal field theory by analysing the boundary state. We also
use this method to demonstrate that in open string field theory the tachyon
lump solution on a circle of radius larger than one has vanishing pressure
along the circle direction, as is expected for a codimension one D-brane.Comment: LaTeX file, 25 pages; v2: minor addition
Planck Fluctuations, Measurement Uncertainties and the Holographic Principle
Starting from a critical analysis of recently reported surprisingly large
uncertainties in length and position measurements deduced within the framework
of quantum gravity, we embark on an investigation both of the correlation
structure of Planck scale fluctuations and the role the holographic hypothesis
is possibly playing in this context. While we prove the logical independence of
the fluctuation results and the holographic hypothesis (in contrast to some
recent statements in that direction) we show that by combining these two topics
one can draw quite strong and interesting conclusions about the fluctuation
structure and the microscopic dynamics on the Planck scale. We further argue
that these findings point to a possibly new and generalized form of quantum
statistical mechanics of strongly (anti)correlated systems of degrees of

It rather highlights important patterns in the outcomes of shareholder activism in the United States, Germany, and United Kingdom since the beginning of 2010, when the economies of these countries were emerging from the depths of the financial crisis.
Activism tends to be concentrated largely in the United States, but the expectations for further expansion into Europe make it important to understand its existing environment and what activist methods have had success in the region. As equity markets reach new heights in Europe, there will be new opportunities for activist investors
