    AlN/GaN-based MOS-HEMT technology: processing and device results

    Process development of AlN/GaN MOS-HEMTs is presented, along with issues and problems concerning the fabrication processes. The developed technology uses thermally grown Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> as a gate dielectric and surface passivation for devices. Significant improvement in device performance was observed using the following techniques: (1) Ohmic contact optimisation using Al wet etch prior to Ohmic metal deposition and (2) mesa sidewall passivation. DC and RF performance of the fabricated devices will be presented and discussed in this paper

    Proceeding in analogy with su(n) work on lambda matrices and f- and d-tensors, this paper develops the technology of the Lie algebra g2, its seven dimensional defining representation gamma and the full set of invariant tensors that arise in relation thereto. A comprehensive listing of identities involving these tensors is given. This includes identities that depend on use of characteristic equations, especially for gamma, and a good body of results involving the quadratic, sextic and (the non-primitivity of) other Casimir operators of g2.Comment: 29 pages, LaTe

    Scalable solid-state quantum processor using subradiant two-atom states

    We propose a realization of a scalable, high-performance quantum processor whose qubits are represented by the ground and subradiant states of effective dimers formed by pairs of two-level systems coupled by resonant dipole-dipole interaction. The dimers are implanted in low-temperature solid host material at controllable nanoscale separations. The two-qubit entanglement either relies on the coherent excitation exchange between the dimers or is mediated by external laser fields.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Novel methods of fabrication and metrology of superconducting nanostructures

    As metrology extends toward the nanoscale, a number of potential applications and new challenges arise. By combining photolithography with focused ion beam and/or electron beam methods, superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) with loop dimensions down to 200 nm and superconducting bridge dimensions of the order 80 nm have been produced. These SQUIDs have a range of potential applications. As an illustration, we describe a method for characterizing the effective area and the magnetic penetration depth of a structured superconducting thin film in the extreme limit, where the superconducting penetration depth lambdalambda is much greater than the film thickness and is comparable with the lateral dimensions of the device

    q-Boson approach to multiparticle correlations

    An approach is proposed enabling to effectively describe, for relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the observed deviation from unity of the intercept \lambda (measured value corresponding to zero relative momentum {\bf p} of two registered identical pions or kaons) of the two-particle correlation function C(p,K). The approach uses q-deformed oscillators and the related picture of ideal gas of q-bosons. In effect, the intercept \lambda is connected with deformation parameter q. For a fixed value of q, the model predicts specific dependence of \lambda on pair mean momentum {\bf K} so that, when |{\bf K}|\gsim 500 - 600 MeV/c for pions or when |{\bf K}|\gsim 700 - 800 MeV/c for kaons, the intercept \lambda tends to a constant which is less than unity and determined by q. If q is fixed to be the same for pions and kaons, the intercepts \lambda_\pi and \lambda_K essentially differ at small mean momenta {\bf K}, but tend to be equal at {\bf K} large enough (|{\bf K}|\gsim 800MeV/c) where the effect of resonance decays can be neglected. We argue that it is of basic interest to check in the experiments on heavy ion collisions: (i) the exact shape of dependence \lambda = \lambda({\bf K}), and (ii) whether for |{\bf K}| \gsim 800 MeV/c the resulting \lambda_\pi and \lambda_K indeed coincide.Comment: 6 pages, revtex, 4 figures, to be published in Mod.
