Structure of the novel membrane-coating material in proton-secreting epithelial cells and identification as an H+ATPase.
Specialized proton-secreting cells known collectively as mitochondria-rich cells are found in a variety of transporting epithelia, including the kidney collecting duct (intercalated cells) and toad and turtle urinary bladders. These cells contain a population of characteristic tubulovesicles that are believed to be involved in the shuttling of proton pumps (H+ATPase) to and from the plasma membrane. These transporting vesicles have a dense, studlike material coating the cytoplasmic face of their limiting membranes and similar studs are also found beneath parts of the plasma membrane. We have recently shown that this membrane coat does not contain clathrin. The present study was performed to determine the structure of this coat in rapidly frozen and freeze-dried tissue, and to determine whether the coat contains a major membrane protein transported by these vesicles, a proton pumping H+ATPase. The structure of the coat was examined in proton-secreting, mitochondria-rich cells from toad urinary bladder epithelium by rapidly freezing portions of apical membrane and associated cytoplasm that were sheared away from the remainder of the cell using polylysine-coated coverslips. Regions of the underside of these apical membranes as large as 0.2 micron2 were decorated by studlike projections that were arranged into regular hexagonal arrays. Individual studs had a diameter of 9.5 nm and appeared to be composed of multiple subunits arranged around a central depression, possibly representing a channel. The studs had a density of approximately 16,800 per micron2 of membrane. Similar arrays of studs were also found on vesicles trapped in the residual band of cytoplasm that remained attached to the underside of the plasma membrane, but none were seen in adjacent granular cells. To determine whether these arrays of studs contained H+ATPase molecules, we examined a preparation of affinity-purified bovine medullary H+ATPase, using the same technique, after incorporation of the protein eluted from a monoclonal antibody affinity column into phospholipid liposomes. The affinity-purified protein was shown to be capable of ATP-dependent acidification. In such preparations, large paracrystalline arrays of studs identical in appearance to those seen in situ were found. The dimensions of the studs as well as the number per square micrometer of membrane were identical to those of toad bladder mitochondria-rich cells: 9.5 nm in diameter, 16,770 per micron2 of membrane.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS
Representations of hom-Lie algebras
In this paper, we study representations of hom-Lie algebras. In particular,
the adjoint representation and the trivial representation of hom-Lie algebras
are studied in detail. Derivations, deformations, central extensions and
derivation extensions of hom-Lie algebras are also studied as an application.Comment: 16 pages, multiplicative and regular hom-Lie algebras are used,

The magnetic ground state properties of non-centrosymmetric CePtBSi
We present a study of the alloying series of the non-centrosymmetric
-electron intermetallic CePtBSi by means of muon spin
rotation and relaxation measurements. In addition, we include a high pressure
magnetization investigation of the stoichiometric parent compound CePtB.
From our data we establish the nature of the magnetic ground state properties
of the series, derive the ordered magnetic moment as function of stoichiometry
and gain insight into the evolution of the symmetry of the ordered magnetic
state with . We thus can verify the notion that the behavior of the sample
series can essentially be understood within the framework of the Doniach phase
diagram. Further, our findings raise the issue of the role the
Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya magnetic interaction plays in correlated electron
materials, and its effect on magnetic fluctuations in such materials.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
Toward an ecological aesthetics: music as emergence
In this article we intend to suggest some ecological based principles
to support the possibility of develop an ecological aesthetics. We consider that
an ecological aesthetics is founded in concepts as “direct perception”,
“acquisition of affordances and invariants”, “embodied embedded
perception” and so on. Here we will purpose that can be possible explain
especially soundscape music perception in terms of direct perception, working
with perception of first hand (in a Gibsonian sense). We will present notions
as embedded sound, detection of sonic affordances and invariants, and at the
end we purpose an experience with perception/action paradigm to make
soundscape music as emergence of a self-organized system
Hom-Lie color algebra structures
This paper introduces the notion of Hom-Lie color algebra, which is a natural
general- ization of Hom-Lie (super)algebras. Hom-Lie color algebras include
also as special cases Lie (super) algebras and Lie color algebras. We study the
homomorphism relation of Hom-Lie color algebras, and construct new algebras of
such kind by a \sigma-twist. Hom-Lie color admissible algebras are also defined
and investigated. They are finally classified via G-Hom-associative color
algebras, where G is a subgroup of the symmetric group S_3.Comment: 16 page
Ternary q-Virasoro-Witt Hom-Nambu-Lie algebras
In this paper we construct ternary -Virasoro-Witt algebras which
-deform the ternary Virasoro-Witt algebras constructed by Curtright, Fairlie
and Zachos using enveloping algebra techniques. The ternary
Virasoro-Witt algebras constructed by Curtright, Fairlie and Zachos depend on a
parameter and are not Nambu-Lie algebras for all but finitely many values of
this parameter. For the parameter values for which the ternary Virasoro-Witt
algebras are Nambu-Lie, the corresponding ternary -Virasoro-Witt algebras
constructed in this article are also Hom-Nambu-Lie because they are obtained
from the ternary Nambu-Lie algebras using the composition method. For other
parameter values this composition method does not yield Hom-Nambu Lie algebra
structure for -Virasoro-Witt algebras. We show however, using a different
construction, that the ternary Virasoro-Witt algebras of Curtright, Fairlie and
Zachos, as well as the general ternary -Virasoro-Witt algebras we construct,
carry a structure of ternary Hom-Nambu-Lie algebra for all values of the
involved parameters
