The Implementation of Pesantren Financing Based on Agribusiness Social Entrepreneurs

The sources of pesantren funding are limited either from the government, santri parents, or the community. The government has not budgeted pesantren funds in the state budget or regional budget even though there is a policy for pesantren. The search for pesantren financing sources based on the potential of the agribusiness-based social entrepreneurship environment is very desirable. This article aimed to examine the implementation of pesantren financing based on agribusiness social entrepreneurship. Data collection techniques were carried out with the study of documentation, observation, and interviews with the planning, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and accountability of pesantren financing. The study found that Pesantren Al Ittifak Ciwidey in Bandung District implemented agribusiness-based social entrepreneurship financing through five steps namely planning, implementing, controlling, evaluating, and accountability. The study concluded that the implementation of pesantren financing based on agribusiness social entrepreneurship Al Ittifak Ciwidey Bandung was prepared through accounting (budgeting), namely preparing activity plans and pesantren budgets using SWOT analysis; Funding was carried out to finance underprivileged students, to pay teachers, professional development (training), and infrastructure; Supervision of education funding in PPAI Al Ittifak Ciwidey was carried out by the PPAI Management Team, Kiyai, and the board of educators by monitoring, guiding, and solving problems to the RAPBP, Cash, and Equipment; Funding evaluation was carried out at the end of each semester and the end of the school year. Funding accountability was focused on the parents of students, the community, and the Government as well as the PPAI leader, Kiyai

Impact of combination chemotherapy in peritoneal mesothelioma hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC): The RENAPE study

International audienceBackground: The introduction of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) in combination with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) improved the prognosis of selected patients with peritoneal mesothelioma (PM).Objective: The objective of our study was to evaluate whether different HIPEC agents were associated with different outcomes in patients with PM.Methods: From the RENAPE database, we selected all patients with histology-proven PM who underwent CRS + HIPEC from 1989 to 2014. Inclusion criteria were age ≤ 80 years, performance status ≤ 2, and no extraperitoneal metastases. Results: Overall, 249 patients underwent CRS + HIPEC for PM. The HIPEC regimen included five chemotherapeutic agents (CAs), consisting of cisplatin, doxorubicin, mitomycin-C, oxaliplatin, and irinotecan. When considering all CAs (alone or in combination), there was no significant statistical difference in regard to postoperative overall survival (OS). However, OS was better when using two CAs (group 2 drugs) versus one CA (group 1 drug) (p = 0.03). The different CA regimens were equally distributed between the two groups. This association between OS and HIPEC agent, as well as a trend for better progression-free survival, were both observed in the two-drug group versus the one-drug group (p = 0.009) for patients undergoing complete cytoreductive surgery (CC-0) with an epithelioid subtype. Conclusions: This large study seems to show improved OS when combined CAs, especially with platinum-based regimens, are used for HIPEC in patients with PM, but needs to be confirmed by a randomized controlled trial

Sulfur Degassing From Steam-Heated Crater Lakes: El ChichĂłn (Chiapas, Mexico) and VĂti (Iceland)

The composition of the gases released by El ChichĂłn (Chiapas, Mexico) and VĂti (Askja volcano, Iceland) volcanic lakes is examined by Multi-GAS for the first time. Our results demonstrate that H2S and SO2 are degassed by these pH 2–3 lakes. We find higher CO2/H2S and H2/H2S ratios in the lakes' emissions (31–5,685 and 0.6–35, respectively) than in the fumarolic gases feeding the lakes (13–33 and 0.08–0.5, respectively), evidencing that only a fraction (0.2–5.4% at El ChichĂłn) of the H2S(g) contributed by the subaquatic fumaroles ultimately reaches the atmosphere. At El ChichĂłn, we estimate a H2S output from the crater lake of 0.02–0.06 t/day. Curiously, SO2 is also detected at trace levels in the gases released from both lakes (0.003–0.3 ppmv). We propose that H2S supplied into the lakes initiates a series of complex oxidation reactions, having sulfite as an intermediate product, and ultimately leading to SO2 production and degassing
