Interaction-free quantum computation
In this paper, we study the quantum computation realized by an
interaction-free measurement (IFM). Using Kwiat et al.'s interferometer, we
construct a two-qubit quantum gate that changes one particle's trajectory
according to whether or not the other particle exists in the interferometer. We
propose a method for distinguishing Bell-basis vectors, each of which consists
of a pair of an electron and a positron, by this gate. (This is called the
Bell-basis measurement.) This method succeeds with probability 1 in the limit
of , where N is the number of beam splitters in the
interferometer. Moreover, we can carry out a controlled-NOT gate operation by
the above Bell-basis measurement and the method proposed by Gottesman and
Chuang. Therefore, we can prepare a universal set of quantum gates by the IFM.
This means that we can execute any quantum algorithm by the IFM.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, LaTex2
CD28 interaction with B7 costimulates primary allogeneic proliferative responses and cytotoxicity mediated by small, resting T lymphocytes.
Engagement of the CD3/T cell antigen receptor complex on small, resting T cells is insufficient to trigger cell-mediated cytotoxicity or to induce a proliferative response. In the present study, we have used genetic transfection to demonstrate that interaction of the B7-BB1 B cell activation antigen with the CD28 T cell differentiation antigen costimulates cell-mediated cytotoxicity and proliferation initiated by either anti-CD2 or anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody (mAb). Moreover, a B7-negative Burkitt's lymphoma cell line that fails to stimulate an allogeneic mixed lymphocyte response is rendered a potent stimulator after transfection with B7. The mixed leukocyte reaction proliferative response against the B7 transfectant is inhibited by either anti-CD28 or B7 mAb. We also demonstrate that freshly isolated small, resting human T cells can mediate anti-CD3 or anti-CD2 mAb-redirected cytotoxicity against a murine Fc receptor-bearing mastocytoma transfected with human B7. These preexisting cytotoxic T lymphocytes in peripheral blood are present in both the CD4 and CD8 subsets, but are preferentially within the CD45RO+ "memory" population. While small, resting T cells apparently require costimulation by CD28/B7 interactions, this requirement is lost after T cell activation. Anti-CD3 initiates a cytotoxic response mediated by in vitro cultured T cell clones in the absence of B7 ligand. The existence of functional cytolytic T cells in the small, resting T cell population may be advantageous in facilitating rapid responses to immune challenge
Exact fuzzy sphere thermodynamics in matrix quantum mechanics
We study thermodynamical properties of a fuzzy sphere in matrix quantum
mechanics of the BFSS type including the Chern-Simons term. Various quantities
are calculated to all orders in perturbation theory exploiting the one-loop
saturation of the effective action in the large-N limit. The fuzzy sphere
becomes unstable at sufficiently strong coupling, and the critical point is
obtained explicitly as a function of the temperature. The whole phase diagram
is investigated by Monte Carlo simulation. Above the critical point, we obtain
perfect agreement with the all order results. In the region below the critical
point, which is not accessible by perturbation theory, we observe the Hagedorn
transition. In the high temperature limit our model is equivalent to a totally
reduced model, and the relationship to previously known results is clarified.Comment: 22 pages, 14 figures, (v2) some typos correcte
Swift Highly Charged Ion Channelling
We review recent experimental and theoretical progress made in the scope of
swift highly charged ion channelling in crystals. The usefulness of such
studies is their ability to yield impact parameter information on charge
transfer processes, and also on some time related problems. We discuss the
cooling and heating phenomena at MeV/u energies, results obtained with
decelerated H-like ion beams at GSI and with ions having an excess of electrons
at GANIL, the superdensity effect along atomic strings and Resonant Coherent

Dynamical aspects of the fuzzy CP in the large reduced model with a cubic term
``Fuzzy CP^2'', which is a four-dimensional fuzzy manifold extension of the
well-known fuzzy analogous to the fuzzy 2-sphere (S^2), appears as a classical
solution in the dimensionally reduced 8d Yang-Mills model with a cubic term
involving the structure constant of the SU(3) Lie algebra. Although the fuzzy
S^2, which is also a classical solution of the same model, has actually smaller
free energy than the fuzzy CP^2, Monte Carlo simulation shows that the fuzzy
CP^2 is stable even nonperturbatively due to the suppression of tunneling
effects at large N as far as the coefficient of the cubic term () is
sufficiently large. As \alpha is decreased, both the fuzzy CP and the fuzzy
S^2 collapse to a solid ball and the system is essentially described by the
pure Yang-Mills model (\alpha = 0). The corresponding transitions are of first
order and the critical points can be understood analytically. The gauge group
generated dynamically above the critical point turns out to be of rank one for
both CP^2 and S^2 cases. Above the critical point, we also perform perturbative
calculations for various quantities to all orders, taking advantage of the
one-loop saturation of the effective action in the large-N limit. By
extrapolating our Monte Carlo results to N=\infty, we find excellent agreement
with the all order results.Comment: 27 pages, 7 figures, (v2) References added (v3) all order analyses

Unconditional Security of Single-Photon Differential Phase Shift Quantum Key Distribution
In this Letter, we prove the unconditional security of single-photon
differential phase shift quantum key distribution (DPS-QKD) protocol, based on
the conversion to an equivalent entanglement-based protocol. We estimate the
upper bound of the phase error rate from the bit error rate, and show that
DPS-QKD can generate unconditionally secure key when the bit error rate is not
greater than 4.12%. This proof is the first step to the unconditional security
proof of coherent state DPS-QKD.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures; shorten the length, improve clarity, and correct

Notes on noncommutative supersymmetric gauge theory on the fuzzy supersphere
In these notes we review Klimcik's construction of noncommutative gauge
theory on the fuzzy supersphere. This theory has an exact SUSY gauge symmetry
with a finite number of degrees of freedom and thus in principle it is amenable
to the methods of matrix models and Monte Carlo numerical simulations. We also
write down in this article a novel fuzzy supersymmetric scalar action on the
fuzzy supersphere
An augmented reality interface for visualising and interacting with virtual content
In this paper, a novel AR interface is proposed that provides generic solutions to the tasks involved in augmenting simultaneously different types of virtual information and processing of tracking data for natural interaction. Participants within the system can experience a real-time mixture of 3D objects, static video, images, textual information and 3D sound with the real environment. The userfriendly AR interface can achieve maximum interaction using simple but effective forms of collaboration based on the combinations of humancomputer interaction techniques. To prove the feasibility of the interface, the use of indoor AR techniques are employed to construct innovative applications and demonstrate examples from heritage to learning systems. Finally, an initial evaluation of the AR interface including some initial results is presented
