Security in IoT pairing & authentication protocols, a threat model and a case study analysis
The Internet of Things has changed the way we interact with the environment around us in our daily life, and it is increasingly common to find more than one IoT device in our home. However, the current design approaches adopted by the vendors are more oriented towards customer usability than to security. This often results in more and more devices exposing serious security problems. This work focuses on the security implications, i.e. the threats and the risks, of the current IoT pairing mechanisms and represents a step forward in the definition of our automated penetration testing methodology. In addition to the general threat model for a general IoT pairing process, we present the analysis of a QR code-based pairing mechanism implemented by a class of devices taken from the real market, which led to the identification of two vulnerabilities, one of which publicly disclosed as CVE-2021-27941
Quantitative features of multifractal subtleties in time series
Based on the Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) and on the
Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima (WTMM) methods we investigate the origin of
multifractality in the time series. Series fluctuating according to a qGaussian
distribution, both uncorrelated and correlated in time, are used. For the
uncorrelated series at the border (q=5/3) between the Gaussian and the Levy
basins of attraction asymptotically we find a phase-like transition between
monofractal and bifractal characteristics. This indicates that these may solely
be the specific nonlinear temporal correlations that organize the series into a
genuine multifractal hierarchy. For analyzing various features of
multifractality due to such correlations, we use the model series generated
from the binomial cascade as well as empirical series. Then, within the
temporal ranges of well developed power-law correlations we find a fast
convergence in all multifractal measures. Besides of its practical significance
this fact may reflect another manifestation of a conjectured q-generalized

Efficacy and safety of electrochemotherapy combined with peritumoral IL-12 gene electrotransfer of canine mast cell tumours
Electrochemotherapy combined with peritumoral interleukin-12 (IL-12) gene electrotransfer was used for treatment of mast cell tumours in 18 client-owned dogs. Local tumour control, recurrence rate, as well as safety of combined therapy were evaluated. One month after the therapy, no side effects were recorded and good local tumour control was observed with high complete responses rate which even increased during the observation period to 72%. IL-12 gene electrotransfer resulted in 78% of patients with detectable serum IFN- and/or IL-12 levels. In the treated tumours vascular changes as well as minimal T-lymphocytes infiltration was observed. After 1week, the plasmid DNA was not detected intra- or peritumorally and no horizontal gene transfer was observed. In summary, our study demonstrates high antitumour efficacy of electrochemotherapy combined with IL-12
electrotransfer, which also prevented recurrences or distant metastases, as well as its safety and feasibility in treatment of canine mast cell tumours
Jet tomography
I summarize the recent advances in jet tomographic studies of cold and hot
nuclear matter based on perturbative QCD calculations of medium-induced gluon
bremsstrahlung. Quantitative applications to ultrarelativistic heavy ion
reactions at RHIC indicate the creation of a deconfined state of QCD with
initial energy density on the order of 100 times cold nuclear matter density.Comment: Plenary talk given at the seventeenth international conference on

Elliptic flow of charged pions, protons and strange particles emitted in Pb+Au collisions at top SPS energy
Differential elliptic flow spectra v2(pT) of \pi-, K0short, p, \Lambda have
been measured at \sqrt(s NN)= 17.3 GeV around midrapidity by the
CERN-CERES/NA45 experiment in mid-central Pb+Au collisions (10% of
\sigma(geo)). The pT range extends from about 0.1 GeV/c (0.55 GeV/c for
\Lambda) to more than 2 GeV/c. Protons below 0.4 GeV/c are directly identified
by dE/dx. At higher pT, proton elliptic flow v2(pT) is derived as a
constituent, besides \pi+ and K+, of the elliptic flow of positive pion
candidates. The retrieval requires additional inputs: (i) of the particle
composition, and (ii) of v2(pT) of positive pions. For (i), particle ratios
obtained by NA49 were adapted to CERES conditions; for (ii), the measured
v2(pT) of negative pions is substituted, assuming \pi+ and \pi- elliptic flow
magnitudes to be sufficiently close. The v2(pT) spectra are compared to
ideal-hydrodynamics calculations. In synopsis of the series \pi- - K0short - p
- \Lambda, flow magnitudes are seen to fall with decreasing pT progressively
even below hydro calculations with early kinetic freeze-out (Tf= 160 MeV)
leaving not much time for hadronic evolution. The proton v2(pT) data show a
downward swing towards low pT with excursions into negative v2 values. The
pion-flow isospin asymmetry observed recently by STAR at RHIC, invalidating in
principle our working assumption, is found in its impact on proton flow
bracketed from above by the direct proton flow data, and not to alter any of
our conclusions. Results are discussed in perspective of recent viscous

Azimuthal dependence of pion source radii in Pb+Au collisions at 158 A GeV
We present results of a two-pion correlation analysis performed with the
Au+Pb collision data collected by the upgraded CERES experiment in the fall of
2000. The analysis was done in bins of the reaction centrality and the pion
azimuthal emission angle with respect to the reaction plane. The pion source,
deduced from the data, is slightly elongated in the direction perpendicular to
the reaction plane, similarly as was observed at the AGS and at RHIC.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Symmetries of Abelian Orbifolds
Using the Polya Enumeration Theorem, we count with particular attention to
C^3/Gamma up to C^6/Gamma, abelian orbifolds in various dimensions which are
invariant under cycles of the permutation group S_D. This produces a collection
of multiplicative sequences, one for each cycle in the Cycle Index of the
permutation group. A multiplicative sequence is controlled by its values on
prime numbers and their pure powers. Therefore, we pay particular attention to
orbifolds of the form C^D/Gamma where the order of Gamma is p^alpha. We propose
a generalization of these sequences for any D and any p.Comment: 75 pages, 13 figures, 30 table
Leptonic and charged kaon decay modes of the meson measured in heavy-ion collisions at the CERN SPS
We report a measurement of meson production in central Pb+Au
collisions at E/A=158 GeV. For the first time in heavy-ion collisions,
mesons were reconstructed in the same experiment both in the KK
and the dilepton decay channel. Near mid-rapidity, this yields rapidity
densities, corrected for production at the same rapidity value, of 2.05 +-
0.14(stat) +- 0.25(syst) and 2.04 +- 0.49(stat)+-{0.32}(syst), respectively.
The shape of the measured transverse momentum spectra is also in close
agreement in both decay channels. The data rule out a possible enhancement of
the yield in the leptonic over the hadronic channel by a factor larger
