This article offers a first contribution to the philosophical and political criticism surrounding the sentimental idea of Galicia in the essays of Daniel Cortezón (1927-2009). Using Helena Miguélez-Carballeira’s analysis in Galicia, a Sentimental Nation (2013) as a starting point, the investigation explores notions of sentimentality, history and reason in Cortezón’s key theoretical writing, including several unedited texts.El presente artículo constituye una primera aportación al estudio de la crítica filosófica y política de la idea sentimental de Galicia que llevó a cabo Daniel Cortezón (1927-2009) en su obra ensayística. Partiendo del análisis de Helena Miguélez-Carballeira en su Galicia, a Sentimental Nation (2013) se estudian los conceptos de sentimiento, historia y razón en los principales textos teóricos del autor, incluyendo algunos inéditos.O presente artigo constitúe unha primeira achega ao estudo da crítica filosófica e política da idea sentimental de Galicia que levou a cabo Daniel Cortezón (1927-2009) na súa obra ensaística. Identidade sentimental, historia e política en "A vila sulagada" de Daniel Cortezón

The novels of Daniel Cortezón, which have not attracted as much critical attention as his theatrical productions, are of contemporary interest as they develop his ideas on identity, history and politics. The purpose of this article is to show, through an analysis of the complex arrangement of the above three concepts, how A vila Sulagada is a metaphor for the historical failure of Galicia.Prácticamente olvidada en favor de su producción teatral, la obra novelística de Daniel Cortezón resulta de interés y actualidad, ya que en ella desarrolla sus ideas teóricas sobre identidad, historia y política. Analizando la compleja configuración de estos tres conceptos en A vila sulagada, intentará demostrarse cómo esta novela es una metáfora del fracaso histórico de Galicia.Practicamente esquecida en favor da súa produción teatral, a obra novelística de Daniel Cortezón resulta de interese e actualidade, xa que nela desenvolve as súas ideas teóricas sobre identidade, historia e política. Chondrogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells via SOX9 delivery in cationic niosomes

[Abstract] Gene transfer to mesenchymal stem cells constitutes a powerful approach to promote their differentiation into the appropriate cartilage phenotype. Although viral vectors represent gold standard vehicles, because of their high efficiency, their use is precluded by important concerns including an elevated immunogenicity and the possibility of insertional mutagenesis. Therefore, the development of new and efficient non-viral vectors is under active investigation. In the present study, we developed new non-viral carriers based on niosomes to promote the effective chondrogenesis of human MSCs. Two different niosome formulations were prepared by varying their composition on non-ionic surfactant, polysorbate 80 solely (P80), or combined with poloxamer 407 (P80PX). The best niosome formulation was proven to transfer a plasmid, encoding for the potent chondrogenic transcription factor SOX9 in hMSC aggregate cultures. Transfection of hMSC aggregates via nioplexes resulted in an increased chondrogenic differentiation with reduced hypertrophy. El presente estudio analiza el proceso de captura de gases ácidos mediante absorción gas-líquido con reacción química, en disolución acuosa y medio básico. El medio básico procede de la disolución de diferentes álcalis. El dispositivo experimental utilizado para poner en contacto las distintas fases fue una columna de burbujeo. Functionalism and Caprice in Stonecutting. The Case of the Nativity Chapel in Burgos Cathedral

Starting from the inaugural text of Philibert de L'Orme, stereotomic treatises and manuscripts are subject to the opposing forces of reason and fancy. The Nativity Chapel in Burgos Cathedral provides an outstanding case study on this subject. It was built in 1571-1582 by Martín de Bérriz and Martín de la Haya, using an oval vault resting on trumpet squinches to span a rectangular bay. Bed joints and rib axes are not planar curves, as usual in oval vaults. This warping is not capricious; we shall argue that it is the outcome of a systematic tracing method. As a result of this process, the slope of the bed joints increases slightly in the first courses, but stays fairly constant after the third course; this solution prevents the upper courses from slipping. Thus, in the Nativity Chapel of Burgos Cathedral, the constraints of masonry construction fostered a singular solution verging on capriccio. It is also worthwhile to remark that the warping of the joints is not easily appreciable to the eye and that the tracing process does not seem to start from a previous conception of the resulting form. All this suggests that we should be quite careful when talking about the whimsical character of Late Gothic and Early Renaissance; in some occasions, apparent caprice is the offspring of practical thinking
