    Reference Process Flows for Telecommunication Companies - An Extension of the eTOM Model

    The telecommunication market is experiencing substantial changes. New business models, innovative services, and technologies require reengineering, transformation, and process standardization. Enterprise Architecture Frameworks support the transformation by specifying methods, procedures, and reference models. With the Enhanced Telecom Operation Map (eTOM), the TM Forum offers an international de facto reference process framework, based on specific features and requirements of the telecommunication industry. However, this reference framework only offers a hierarchical collection of processes on different levels of abstraction; a control view in terms of a sequential ordering of tasks and hence a real process flow as well as an end-to-end view on the customer are missing. In this paper, we extend the eTOM reference model by reference process flows, in which we abstract and generalize the knowledge about processes in telecommunication companies. With reference process flows, we aim to assist companies in achieving a structured and transparent re-structuring and re-design of their processes. We demonstrate the applicability and usefulness of our reference process flows in two case studies, and evaluate them by means of criteria for reference model evaluation. Our reference process flows have been accepted as a standard by the TM Forum and published as part of eTOM version 9. We further elaborate on those components of our approach which can be applied outside the telecommunication industry

    Digital twins enable the modeling and simulation of real-world entities (objects, processes or systems), resulting in improvements in the associated value chains. The emerging field of quantum computing holds tremendous promise for evolving this virtualization towards Quantum (Digital) Twins (QDT) and ultimately Quantum Twins (QT). The quantum (digital) twin concept is not a contradiction in terms - but instead describes a hybrid approach that can be implemented using the technologies available today by combining classical computing and digital twin concepts with quantum processing. This paper presents the status quo of research and practice on quantum (digital) twins. It also discuses their potential to create competitive advantage through real-time simulation of highly complex, interconnected entities that helps companies better address changes in their environment and differentiate their products and services

    This paper describes the potential for developing a digital twin of society - a dynamic model that can be used to observe, analyze, and predict the evolution of various societal aspects. Such a digital twin can help governmental agencies and policy makers in interpreting trends, understanding challenges, and making decisions regarding investments or policies necessary to support societal development and ensure future prosperity. The paper reviews related work regarding the digital twin paradigm and its applications. The paper presents a motivating case study - an analysis of opportunities and challenges faced by the German federal employment agency, Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA), proposes solutions using digital twins, and describes initial proofs of concept for such solutions

    Software product line engineering: a practical experience

    The lack of mature tool support is one of the main reasons that make the industry to be reluctant to adopt Software Product Line (SPL) approaches. A number of systematic literature reviews exist that identify the main characteristics offered by existing tools and the SPL phases in which they can be applied. However, these reviews do not really help to understand if those tools are offering what is really needed to apply SPLs to complex projects. These studies are mainly based on information extracted from the tool documentation or published papers. In this paper, we follow a different approach, in which we firstly identify those characteristics that are currently essential for the development of an SPL, and secondly analyze whether the tools provide or not support for those characteristics. We focus on those tools that satisfy certain selection criteria (e.g., they can be downloaded and are ready to be used). The paper presents a state of practice with the availability and usability of the existing tools for SPL, and defines different roadmaps that allow carrying out a complete SPL process with the existing tool support.Universidad de Málaga.     Transformation in Telecommunication – Analyse und Clustering von Real-life Projekten

    Die Veränderungen des Telekommunikationsmarktes haben in der Praxis zu einer Vielzahl von Transformationsprojekten geführt. Was gehört aber zu einem “Transformationsprojekt”, welche Prozesse und Systeme werden verändert? Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage haben wir 184 Berichte zu Projekten analysiert, die als "Transformationsprojekte" bezeichnet waren. Für die Analyse haben wir einen Kodierungsrahmen konzipiert und anhand dessen die Berichte mit einem hierarchischen Clustering-Verfahren in Themen gruppiert. Die Ergebnisse liefern Hinweise über die in der Praxis gesetzten Schwerpunkte und Prioritäten. Sie können somit als Unterstützung für Unternehmen dienen, die ein Transformationsprojekt planen. Sie weisen zudem darauf hin, in welchen Bereichen eines Unternehmens Unterstützung durch wissenschaftlich erprobte Werkzeuge und Modelle nötig ist

    Threshold expansion of the gg(qq) -> QQ+X cross section at O(alpha_s^4)

    We derive the complete set of velocity-enhanced terms in the expansion of the total cross section for heavy-quark pair production in hadronic collisions at next-to-next-to-leading order. Our expression takes into account the effects of soft-gluon emission as well as that of potential-gluon exchanges.     NLO Electroweak Corrections to Higgs Boson Production at Hadron Colliders

    Results for the complete NLO electroweak corrections to Standard Model Higgs production via gluon fusion are included in the total cross section for hadronic collisions. Artificially large threshold effects are avoided working in the complex-mass scheme. The numerical impact at LHC (Tevatron) energies is explored for Higgs mass values up to 500 GeV (200 GeV). Assuming a complete factorization of the electroweak corrections, one finds a +5 % shift with respect to the NNLO QCD cross section for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV both at the LHC and the Tevatron. Adopting two different factorization schemes for the electroweak effects, an estimate of the corresponding total theoretical uncertainty is computed.Comment: LaTeX, 11 pages, 3 figure

    Reducing theoretical uncertainties in mb and lambda1

    We calculate general moments of the lepton energy spectrum in inclusive semileptonic B -> X_c l \nu decay. Moments which allow the determination of mb^{1S} and lambda1 with theoretical uncertainties Delta(mb^{1S}) ~ 0.04 GeV and Delta(lambda1) ~ 0.05 GeV^2 are presented. The short distance 1S mass is used to extract a mass parameter free of renormalon ambiguities. Moments which are insensitive to mb and lambda1 and therefore test the size of the 1/mb^3 matrix elements and the validity of the OPE are also presented. Finally, we give an expression for the total branching ratio with a lower cut on the lepton energy, which allows one to eliminate a source of model dependence in current determinations of |Vcb| from B -> X_c l \nu decay.Comment: 8 pages, one figur
