Eliminating the low-mass axigluon window
Using recent collider data, especially on the hadronic width the Z0, we
exclude axigluons in the currently allowed low-mass window, namely axigluons in
the mass range 50 GeV < M_A < 120 GeV. Combined with hadron collider data from
di-jet production, axigluons with masses below roughly 1 TeV are now completely

Large-volume metrology instrument selection and measurability analysis
A wide range of metrology processes are involved in the manufacture of large products. In addition to the traditional tool-setting and product-verification operations, increasingly flexible metrology-enabled automation is also being used. Faced with many possible measurement problems and a very large number of metrology instruments employing diverse technologies, the selection of the appropriate instrument for a given task can be highly complex. Also, as metrology has become a key manufacturing process, it should be considered in the early stages of design, and there is currently very little research to support this. This paper provides an overview of the important selection criteria for typical measurement processes and presents some novel selection strategies. Metrics that can be used to assess measurability are also discussed. A prototype instrument selection and measurability analysis application is also presented, with discussion of how this can be used as the basis for development of a more sophisticated measurement planning tool. © 2010 Authors
Signal and Backgrounds for Leptoquarks at the LHC
We study the potentiality of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to unravel
the existence of first generation scalar leptoquarks.
Working with the most general invariant leptoquark
interactions, we analyze in detail the signals and backgrounds that lead to a
final state containing a pair and jets. Our results indicate that a
machine like the LHC will be able to discover leptoquarks with masses up to

Signal and Backgrounds for the Single Production of Scalar and Vector Leptoquarks at the LHC
We perform a detailed analysis of the potentiality of the CERN Large Hadron
Collider to study the single production of leptoquarks via
leptoquark , with generated by the splitting of photons
radiated by the protons. Working with the most general
invariant effective lagrangian for scalar and vector leptoquarks, we analyze in
detail the leptoquark signals and backgrounds that lead to a final state
containing an and a hard jet with approximately balanced transverse
momenta. Our results indicate that the LHC will be able to discover leptoquarks
with masses up to 2--3 TeV, depending on their type, for Yukawa couplings of

Measurement of the electric dipole moment using longitudinal polarization of beams
Certain CP-odd momentum correlations in the production and subsequent decay
of pairs in collisions are enhanced significantly when the
and beams are longitudinally polarized. These may be used to probe
the real and imaginary parts of , the electric dipole moment of
the . Closed-form expressions for these ``vector correlations'' and the
standard deviation of the operators defining them due to standard model
interactions are presented for the two-body final states of decays. If
42\% average polarization of each beam is achieved, as proposed for the
tau-charm factories, with equal integrated luminosities for each sign of
polarization and a total yield of pairs, it is
possible to attain sensitivities for of , , cm respectively and for of , , cm respectively at the three operating center-of-mass energies of
3.67, 4.25 and 10.58 GeV. These bounds emerge when the effects of a posible
weak dipole form factor are negligible as is the case when it is of
the same order of magnitude as . Furthermore, in such a
polarization experiment where different polarizations are possible, a
model-independent disentangling of their individual effects is possible, and a
technique to achieve this is described. A strong longitudinal polarization
physics programme at the tau-charm factory appears warranted.Comment: 30 pages, latex, no figure
Left-right asymmetries in polarized lepton-lepton scattering
Several parity violating left-right asymmetries in M\o ller electron-electron
and muon-muon scattering are considered in the context of the electroweak
standard model at tree level in fixed target and collider experiences. We show
that in colliders the asymmetry with only one of the beam polarized is large
enough to compensate the smaller cross section at high energies. We also show
that these asymmetries are very sensitive to a doubly charged vector bilepton
resonance but they are insensitive to scalar ones.Comment: 23 pages, REVTeX, seven gif image
CP Violation in the Top-Quark Pair Production at a Next Linear Collider
We provide a detailed, model-independent, study for CP violation effects due
to the T-odd top-quark electric dipole moment (EDM) and weak dipole moment
(WDM) in the top-quark pair production via and two-photon annihilation
at a next linear collider (NLC). There are two methods in detecting CP
violation effects in these processes. One method makes use of measurements of
various spin correlations in the final decay products of the produced top-quark
pair, while the other is to measure various CP-odd polarization asymmetry
effects of the initial states. In the case only the first method can
be used, and in the case both methods can be employed. We
provide a complete classification of angular correlations of the and
decay products under CP and CP\tilde{T} which greatly faciliate CP
tests in the mode. Concentrating on the second method with the Compton
back-scattered high-energetic laser light off the electron or positron beam in
the two-photon mode, we construct two CP-odd and CP\tilde{T}-even initial
polarization configurations and apply them to investigating CP-violating
effects due to the top-quark EDM. With a typical set of experimental parameters
at the NLC, we compare the 1-\sigma sensitivities to the top-quark EDM and WDM
in the mode and the two-photon mode. Some model expectation values of

3-3-1 exotic quark search at CERN LEPII-LHC
The 3-3-1 electroweak model is the simplest chiral extension of the standard
model which predicts single and double charged bileptons and exotic quarks
carrying -4/3 and 5/3 units of the positron charge. In this paper we study the
possibilities of the production and decay of one of these exotic quarks at CERN
LEPII-LHC collider. For typical vector bilepton, exotic quark masses and mixing
angles we obtained between 20 and 750 events per year. Angular distributions

Angular Correlations in Top Quark Pair Production and Decay at Hadron Colliders
We show how to observe sizable angular correlations between the decay
products of the top quark and those of the anti-top quark in top quark pair
production and decay at hadron colliders. These correlations result from the
large asymmetry in the rate for producing like-spin versus unlike-spin top
quark pairs provided the appropriate spin axes are used. The effects of new
