Opaque Service Virtualisation: A Practical Tool for Emulating Endpoint Systems
Large enterprise software systems make many complex interactions with other
services in their environment. Developing and testing for production-like
conditions is therefore a very challenging task. Current approaches include
emulation of dependent services using either explicit modelling or
record-and-replay approaches. Models require deep knowledge of the target
services while record-and-replay is limited in accuracy. Both face
developmental and scaling issues. We present a new technique that improves the
accuracy of record-and-replay approaches, without requiring prior knowledge of
the service protocols. The approach uses Multiple Sequence Alignment to derive
message prototypes from recorded system interactions and a scheme to match
incoming request messages against prototypes to generate response messages. We
use a modified Needleman-Wunsch algorithm for distance calculation during
message matching. Our approach has shown greater than 99% accuracy for four
evaluated enterprise system messaging protocols. The approach has been
successfully integrated into the CA Service Virtualization commercial product

The X-ray transient XTE J1118+480: Multiwavelength observations of a low-state mini-outburst
We present multiwavelength observations of the newly discovered X-ray
transient XTE J1118+480 obtained in the rising phase of the 2000 April
outburst. This source is located at unusually high Galactic latitude and in a
very low absorption line of sight. This made the first EUVE spectroscopy of an
X-ray transient outburst possible. Together with our HST, RXTE, and UKIRT data
this gives unprecedented spectral coverage. We find the source in the low hard
state. The flat IR-UV spectrum appears to be a combination of optically thick
disk emission and flat spectrum emission, possibly synchrotron, while at higher
energies, including EUV, a typical low hard state power-law is seen. EUVE
observations reveal no periodic modulation, suggesting an inclination low
enough that no obscuration by the disk rim occurs. We discuss the nature of the
source and this outburst and conclude that it may be more akin to
mini-outbursts seen in GRO J0422+32 than to a normal X-ray transient outburst.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, replaced with accepted version. Uses

Berry's phase with quantized field driving: effects of inter-subsystem coupling
The effect of inter-subsystem couplings on the Berry phase of a composite
system as well as that of its subsystem is investigated in this paper. We
analyze two coupled spin- particles with one driven by a quantized
field as an example, the pure state geometric phase of the composite system as
well as the mixed state geometric phase for the subsystem is calculated and

Atom-molecule conversion with particle losses
Based on the mean-field approximation and the phase space analysis, we study
the dynamics of an atom-molecule conversion system subject to particle loss.
Starting from the many-body dynamics described by a master equation, an
effective nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation is introduced. The classical phase
space is then specified and classified by fixed points. The boundary, which
separate different dynamical regimes have been calculated and discussed. The
effect of particle loss on the conversion efficiency and the self-trapping is

An experimental study for a miniature Stirling refrigerator
Experimental results of a miniature two-stage Stirling cryocooler are introduced. The influence of filling gas pressure and refrigeration temperature on the refrigerating capacity along with the relationship between parameters was measured. The valley pressure corresponding to the lowest refrigeration temperature and the cooldown time versus operating pressure are discussed. The coefficient of performance and thermodynamic efficiency of the cryocooler are calculated based on experimental data
Bias and angular dependence of spin-transfer torque in magnetic tunnel junctions
We use spin-transfer-driven ferromagnetic resonance (ST-FMR) to measure the
spin-transfer torque vector T in MgO-based magnetic tunnel junctions as a
function of the offset angle between the magnetic moments of the electrodes and
as a function of bias, V. We explain the conflicting conclusions of two
previous experiments by accounting for additional terms that contribute to the
ST-FMR signal at large |V|. Including the additional terms gives us improved
precision in the determination of T(V), allowing us to distinguish among
competing predictions. We determine that the in-plane component of has a weak
but non-zero dependence on bias, varying by 30-35% over the bias range where
the measurements are accurate, and that the perpendicular component can be
large enough to be technologically significant. We also make comparisons to
