Author Institution: Department of Zoology, The Ohio State UniversityThe eggs of the nematodes Leidynema appendiculatum and L. portentosae were studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The opercular grooves on the eggshells of both species are oblique, incomplete, and terminal. They deepen as the embryo develops. Numerous pores and pits are distributed on the eggshell surface in both species. The pits on the eggshell of L. portentosae are sharply delineated; those on the eggshell of L. appendiculatum are less sharply defined. The surface texture of the eggshell of L. portentosae is rougher than that of the eggshell of L. appendiculatum and sandy in appearance. The entire eggshell of both species is undulated irregularly to a very small degree

An Analysis of the Changes in the Prevalence of Camallanus oxycephalus (Nematoda: Camallanidae) in Western Lake Erie. Ohio J. Sci. 75(1): 1, 1975. Distribution of Camallanus oxycephalus was studied in 16 species of fishes in western Lake Erie during the summer and autumn of 1972. This study was compared to studies done in 1927 and 1957. Analysis of the frequency of infection in these fishes indicates that Camallanus has become more abundant in the lake. This increase has occurred since 1957. The increase in prevalence appears related to changes in plankton, benthos and fish communities of the western basin. The importance of hostparasite contact frequency and its relation to parasite population density and regulation is discussed
