The absence of translator's handbooks in the Greek publishing market is the reason for us choosing the particular subject of our paper which consists of 5 units. The first unit includes a retrospection of the main trends in translation with Greek as a TL, from the 7th to the 20thc. AC. Ιn the second unit there is reference to the categories of the texts that the theory of translation examines, parallel to references concerning markets of translation products. Ιn the third unit we refer to the educational institutions which offer undergraduate and postgraduate studies in translation, whereas in the fourth unit we present information concerning the educational profile of translation studies in the departments of foreign languages of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Ιn the fifth unit, our approach aims at connecting the education of translators to the market of translation products. Our approach is based οn an empirical field research, which was carried out in 1998 in Greece and concerned translation agencies, costing of the translation products, plus the attitudes of the translation companies agencies towards the qualities-qualifications of the translator and the interpreter. Οn the basis of the information collected in this field research, and because it is our belief that the departments of foreign languages of the Aristotle University can both formally and essentially train and produce well grounded, qualified translators, we conclude to a medium-term planning proposition aiming at the successful confrontation of the challenge of Translation Studies for the Greek Universities

Challenges in the enantioanalysis of fucose using stochastic and potentiometric microsensors

Fucose gained significant interest in the medical field since a large number of studies have been reported on the role of fucose – as tumor marker. Electrochemical enantioselective sensors based on monocrystalline diamond paste and carbon paste working on stochastic and potentiometric modes were proposed for the enantioanalysis of fucose in biological fluids. Porphyrins and polymeric surfactants were used as modifiers for the diamond and carbon pastes in the design of sensors. Stochastic sensors were able to determine simultaneously l- and d-fucose in whole blood samples (qualitative and quantitative), and potentiometric sensors were used for quantitative determination of fucose in the biological fluids. The main advantages of the utilization of the proposed sensors were: real time enantioanalysis of fucose, no sample preparation for the biological fluid, and high reliability of the determinations. Keywords: Enantioanalysis, Stochastic sensors, Potentiometric sensors, Fucos
