    The intensification of fishery activity through the intervention of regional clusters can have a positive impact at the local level – social impact (reducing unemployment), environment impact (reducing pollution effects and protecting the species within the biosphere reserve), tourism impact (increase the number of tourists and improve the “public image” of the region), market impact (increase the potential clients for local fishery products and improve the products quality). This paper will focus on fishery activity within the local area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve from Romania, through the perspective of regional clusters’ actions in protecting and promoting the local area and local fishery products

    Dust effects on the derived Sersic indexes of disks and bulges in spiral galaxies

    We present a theoretical study that quantifies the effect of dust on the derived Sersic indexes of disks and bulges. The changes in the derived parameters from their intrinsic values (as seen in the absence of dust) were obtained by fitting Sersic distributions on simulated images of disks and bulges produced using radiative transfer calculations and the model of Popescu et al. 2011. We found that dust has the effect of lowering the measured Sersic index in most cases, with stronger effects for disks and bulges seen through more optically thick lines of sight.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, to appear in the Proceedings of the IAU Symposium No.284, "The Spectral Energy Distribution of Galaxies", 5-9 sept. 2011, editors Richard J.     The Impact of Economic Crisis on the Emerging Administrations from Southeastern Europe. Case Study: Romania

    After 7 February 2007, the date on which in the United States was the beginning of the mega-global economic crisis, the financial world is vastly different and its reshaping is likely to persist for years or even decades. The consequences of the economic crisis extended beyond the economy itself. It affected the entire World, with a considerable impact on the EU Member States. The economies of the countries have been altered dramatically, and their patterns of governance have changed. One of these components of the models of governance is the public administration system. The paper can be included in the interdisciplinary field of administrative sciences, where the study of the economy plays an important role. The aim of the study is to analyze the impact of the crisis on the public administrations from Southeastern Europe, and the role of the anti-crisis measures taken at the level of the governance process of public administration. Therfore, the research attempts to provide an answer to a number of central research questions: 1. How the economic crises affected the emerging administrations from Southeastern Europe? 2. What were the anti-crisis measures taken at the level of public administration? The study is mainly qualitative based, and tries to identify in which consisted the impact of the economic crisis. It will be focused on the Southeastern European region, a region with some economic and democratic particularities due to the historical legacies of the totalitarian regimes it had. In particular, the paper focus on a case study- Romania public administration- a country from the Southeastern Europe. The paper develops on the premises that Romania public administration system was altered directly by the crises and the measures undertaken to reduce its impact. The research raises the awareness for academics and practitioners to the hardships that transition countries and emerging administrations from Southeastern Europe had to face in keeping the governmental system functionally. On these grounds, specialists can quickly realize how important it is to adapt administrative values and to rethink the reforms to rapidly changing environment

    The psychological influence of the diagnosis of breast cancer on therapeutic options selection

    The therapeutic management decision-making process for breast cancer is complex, and is influenced by multiple factors including patient age, comorbidities, ethnicity, education, and availability of immediate or delayed reconstruction options. Our study analysed 276 patients diagnosed with breast cancer in the “Colțea” Clinical Hospital between 2014 and 2015. Mean patients age was 61.24, median 62, with a range of 31 to 89 years. Younger age was associated with a less advanced local disease and younger patients were more likely to choose and benefit from conservative surgery. Most patients (61.76%) came from rural areas. Place of origin had a significant influence on the tumor size at the time of diagnosis (3.9 cm vs. 1.8cm) as well as on the choice of surgical procedure. Personalized treatment management plans that include aesthetic satisfaction coupled with oncological safety should be the objectives of contemporary breast surgery. Patient age is so important to the decision making process that it has been proposed as a determinant of educational and counselling strategies. From our experience, young patients from urban areas were more proactive patients. They were diagnosed earlier and more involved in treatment decisions compared with patients from rural areas, who generally did not question the surgeon’s opinion. Factors that influence the decision-making process likely include age, socioeconomic status, availability of radiotherapy, the necessity of periodic follow-up and the concern about recurrence

    Pigmented melanoma cell migration study on murine syngeneic B16F10 melanoma cells or tissue transplantation models

    Melanoma is a lethal form of skin cancer with poor prognosis, especially due to the early metastatic feature. Recent studies have shown that the melanin pigment influences the nanomechanical properties and, therefore, the metastatic behavior of the melanoma cells. We aimed to study the growth of subcutaneously transplanted syngeneic melanoma tissue in female C57BL/6 mice harvested from a mouse with a four-week B16F10 melanoma. Also, we studied the effect of the melanin pigment loading on the peritumoral migratory abilities of melanoma cells. Even when the syngeneic transplant was different (cultured cells vs. tumor tissue), the morphological features and the tumor growth were similar in both groups of mice. Heavily pigmented melanoma cells had low migration abilities. Angiogenesis, the depigmentation phenomenon, and the cell shape changes were related to pigmented melanoma cell migration along the matrix collagen fibers of peritumoral structures: the abluminal face of the vessels (angiotropism), the endomysium, and the nerves (neurotropism). The replacement of the histopathological growth pattern, the absence of angiogenesis, and rapidly tumor-bearing emboli were correlated with amelanotic and low pigmented melanoma cells. This study demonstrated that syngeneic melanoma tissue transplantation was a viable technique, and that the melanin pigment loading level can affect the melanoma cell migration profile

    Depression and breast cancer; postoperative short-term implications

    Introduction. Pre and postoperative psychological status is an important aspect in patients diagnosed with breast cancer, having a great impact on their quality of life. Considering the high incidence, mortality rate, and the added effect on self-image, breast cancer is considered a major stressor for women worldwide, almost 50% of these experiencing psychological distress. Methods. Our study retrospectively analysed the relationship between preoperative diagnosed depression and the number of medical care days, on patients diagnosed with breast cancer and admitted for surgical treatment in Colțea Clinical Hospital between 2017 and 2018. Results. We had 62 patients scheduled for breast cancer surgery, who had been preoperatively evaluated using psychological tests. Of those patients, 18 had scores indicating significant symptoms of depression (moderate or severe symptoms, HDSR \u3e17). Patients with high HDSR scores needed an 18.4% longer hospitalization than patients without symptoms of depression. They also had 35.4% more ambulatory visits in the month following discharge, and a higher incidence of postoperative complications. Conclusions. There seem to be both physiological and somatic determinants responsible for the need of prolonged medical care, but the mechanisms responsible for these effects remain unclear. Identifying high-risk patients could not only lower the postoperative morbidity, but also increase the therapeutic outcomes

    Engineering active sites on reduced graphene oxide by hydrogen plasma irradiation: mimicking bifunctional metal/supported catalysts in hydrogenation reactions

    [EN] H2 plasma has been used to generate carbon vacancies on reduced graphene oxide to increase its catalytic activity as a hydrogenation catalyst. A relationship between the power of the plasma treatment and the exposure time with the activity of the material was observed for CvC double bond hydrogenation. The activity data in the case of 1-octene, showing skeletal isomerization besides hydrogenation, indicate that H2 plasma treatment can introduce hydrogenating and acid sites rendering a bifunctional catalyst that is reminiscent of the activity of noble metals supported on acid supports.Financial support from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Severo Ochoa, CTQ2015-69563-CO2-R1 and Grapas) is gratefully acknowledged.     Morphological and Tribological Properties of PMMA/Halloysite Nanocomposites

    From an environmental and cost-effective perspective, a number of research challenges can be found for electronics, household, but especially in the automotive polymer parts industry. Reducing synthesis steps, parts coating and painting, or other solvent-assisted processes, have been identified as major constrains for the existing technologies. Therefore, simple polymer processing routes (mixing, extrusion, injection moulding) were used for obtaining PMMA/HNT nanocomposites. By these techniques, an automotive-grade polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was modified with halloysite nanotubes (HNT) and an eco-friendly additive N,N′-ethylenebis(stearamide) (EBS) to improve nanomechanical properties involved in scratch resistance, mechanical properties (balance between tensile strength and impact resistance) without diminishing other properties. The relationship between morphological/structural (XRD, TEM, FTIR) and tribological (friction) properties of PMMA nanocomposites were investigated. A synergistic effect was found between HNT and EBS in the PMMA matrix. The synergy was attained by the phase distribution resulted from the selective interaction between partners and favourable processing conditions. Modification of HNT with EBS improved the dispersion of nanoparticles in the polymer matrix by increasing their interfacial compatibility through hydrogen bonding established by amide groups with aluminol groups. The increased interfacial adhesion further improved the nanocomposite scratch resistance. The PMMA/HNT-EBS nanocomposite had a lower coefficient of friction and lower scratch penetration depth than PMMA/HNT nanocomposite.Financial support by the EU Commission through Project H2020-686165-IZADINANO2INDUSTRY is gratefully acknowledged
