    Influence of school bag carrying on gait kinetics.

    International audienceThe purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different methods of backpack carrying on gait kinetics in children, using a new treadmill that allowed three-dimensional measurement of right and left leg ground reaction forces (GRFs). Forty-one healthy children, with a mean age of 12 years, participated in this study. The mean height was 152 cm and the mean weight 40 kg. The three trials consisted of walking on the treadmill at the speed of 3.5 km/h, first without a backpack and then carrying a 10 kg school bag on the right shoulder or on both shoulders. For each carrying condition GRFs were recorded, averaged, and analyzed for 30 steps. Stride, stance, double stance, thirteen specific GRF parameters and the symmetry index were measured. The right leg produced higher propulsive fore-aft forces than the left one, whatever the walking conditions. For the two maximum peaks and the average vertical force during stance, a statistical difference was found between walking without a backpack and carrying a backpack on one or two shoulders (one or two shoulder carrying > no backpack) but never between one-shoulder and two-shoulder carrying. The children increased their stance and double stance when walking with a backpack compared with walking without a pack. The symmetry index increased with one-strap carrying (compared with no backpack and two-strap carrying) for the maximum force during the breaking phase (Fy1) when it decreased for the maximum propulsive horizontal force before taking-off (Fy2). Children should be advised to carry their backpack on two shoulders rather than use a one-strap backpack

    International audienceWe recently proposed a new lucky imaging technique, the Power Spectrum Extended (PSE), adapted for image reconstruction of short-exposure astronomical images in case of weak turbulence or partial adaptive optics correction. In this communication we show applications of this technique to observations of about 30 binary stars in H band with the 1m telescope of the Calern C2PU observatory. We show some images reconstructed at the diffraction limit of the telescope and provide measurements of relative astrometry and photometry of observed couples

    Raltegravir Inclusion Decreases CD4 T-Cells Intra-Cellular Viral Load and Increases CD4 and CD28 Positive T-Cells in Selected HIV Patients

    Raltegravir (RLT) prevents the integration of HIV DNA in the nucleus, but published studies remain controversial, suggesting that it does not decrease proviral DNA. However, there are only a few studies focused on virus-targeted cells. We aimed our study on the impact of RLT inclusion on total intra-cellular viral DNA (TID) in cellular subsets and immune effects in patients with newly acquired undetectable plasmatic viral load (UVL). Six patients having UVL using an antiretroviral combination for 6 months and CD4 T-cells > 350/mL and <500/mL were selected to receive RLT for 3 months from M0 to M3. Patients had 7 sequential viro-immunological determinations from M-1 to M5. Immune phenotypes were determined by flow cytometry and TID quantification was performed using PCR assay on purified cells. TID (median values) at the initiation of RLT in CD4 T-cells was 117 copies/millions of cells, decreased to 27.5 on M3, and remained thereafter permanently under the cut-off (<10 copies/millions of cells) in 4 out of 6 patients. This was associated with an increase of CD4 and CD4 + CD28+ T-cells and a decrease of HLA-DR expression and apoptosis of CD4 T-cells. RLT inclusion led to decreases in the viral load along with positive immune reconstitution, mainly for CD4 T-cells in HIV patients
