Influence of the Earth on the background and the sensitivity of the GRM and ECLAIRs instruments aboard the Chinese-French mission SVOM
SVOM (Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Object Monitor) is a
future Chinese-French satellite mission which is dedicated to Gamma-Ray Burst
(GRB) studies. Its anti-solar pointing strategy makes the Earth cross the field
of view of its payload every orbit. In this paper, we present the variations of
the gamma-ray background of the two high energy instruments aboard SVOM, the
Gamma-Ray Monitor (GRM) and ECLAIRs, as a function of the Earth position. We
conclude with an estimate of the Earth influence on their sensitivity and their

Voltage controlled terahertz transmission through GaN quantum wells
We report measurements of radiation transmission in the 0.220--0.325 THz
frequency domain through GaN quantum wells grown on sapphire substrates at room
and low temperatures. A significant enhancement of the transmitted beam
intensity with the applied voltage on the devices under test is found. For a
deeper understanding of the physical phenomena involved, these results are
compared with a phenomenological theory of light transmission under electric
bias relating the transmission enhancement to changes in the differential
mobility of the two-dimensional electron gas
Further studies of 1E 1740.7-2942 with ASCA
We report the ASCA results of the Great Annihilator 1E 1740.7-2942 obtained
with five pointing observations in a time span of 3.5 years. The X-ray spectrum
for each period is well fitted with a single power-law absorbed by a high
column of gas. The X-ray flux changes by a factor of 2 from period to period,
but the other spectral parameters show no significant change. The photon index
is flat with \Gamma = 0.9--1.3. The column densities of hydrogen N_H is
1.0 x 10^{23} H cm^{-2} and that of iron N_{Fe} is 10^{19} Fe cm^{-2}.
These large column densities indicate that 1E 1740.7-2942 is near at the
Galactic Center. The column density ratio leads the iron abundance to be 2
times larger than the other elements in a unit of the solar ratio. The
equivalent width of the K\alpha-line from a neutral iron is less than 15 eV in
90% confidence. This indicates that the iron column density within several
parsecs from 1E 1740.7-2942 is less than 5 x 10^{17} Fe cm^{-2}. In addition,
the derived hydrogen column density is about 1/6 of that of giant molecular
clouds in the line of sight. All these facts support that 1E 1740.7-2942 is not
in a molecular cloud, but possibly in front of it; the X-rays are not powered
by accretion from a molecular cloud, but from a companion star like ordinary

Two-proton small-angle correlations in central heavy-ion collisions: a beam-energy and system-size dependent study
Small-angle correlations of pairs of protons emitted in central collisions of
Ca + Ca, Ru + Ru and Au + Au at beam energies from 400 to 1500 MeV per nucleon
are investigated with the FOPI detector system at SIS/GSI Darmstadt.
Dependences on system size and beam energy are presented which extend the
experimental data basis of pp correlations in the SIS energy range
substantially. The size of the proton-emitting source is estimated by comparing
the experimental data with the output of a final-state interaction model which
utilizes either static Gaussian sources or the one-body phase-space
distribution of protons provided by the BUU transport approach. The trends in
the experimental data, i.e. system-size and beam energy dependences, are well
reproduced by this hybrid model. However, the pp correlation function is found
rather insensitive to the stiffness of the equation of state entering the

Isospin dependence of relative yields of and mesons at 1.528 AGeV
Results on and meson production in Ru +
Ru and Zr + Zr collisions at a beam kinetic
energy of 1.528 GeV, measured with the FOPI detector at GSI-Darmstadt, are
investigated as a possible probe of isospin effects in high density nuclear
matter. The measured double ratio ()/() is
compared to the predictions of a thermal model and a Relativistic Mean Field
transport model using two different collision scenarios and under different
assumptions on the stiffness of the symmetry energy. We find a good agreement
with the thermal model prediction and the assumption of a soft symmetry energy
for infinite nuclear matter while more realistic transport simulations of the
collisions show a similar agreement with the data but also exhibit a reduced

Ba3Ga3N5 - A Novel Host Lattice for Eu2+ - Doped Luminescent Materials with Unexpected Nitridogallate Substructure
The alkaline earth nitridogallate Ba3Ga3N5 was synthesized from the elements in a sodium flux at 760°C utilizing weld shut tantalum ampules. The crystal structure was solved and refined on the basis of single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Ba3Ga3N5 (space group C2/c (No. 15), a = 16.801(3), b = 8.3301(2), c = 11.623(2) Å, β = 109.92 (3)°, Z = 8) contains a hitherto unknown structural motif in nitridogallates, namely, infinite strands made up of GaN4 tetrahedra, each sharing two edges and at least one corner with neighboring GaN4 units. There are three Ba2+ sites with coordination numbers six or eight, respectively, and one Ba2+ position exhibiting a low coordination number 4 corresponding to a distorted tetrahedron. Eu2+ - doped samples show red luminescence when excited by UV irradiation at room temperature. Luminescence investigations revealed a maximum emission intensity at 638 nm (FWHM =2123 cm−1). Ba3Ga3N5 is the first nitridogallate for which parity allowed broadband emission due to Eu2+ - doping has been found. The electronic structure of both Ba3Ga3N5 as well as isoelectronic but not isostructural Sr3Ga3N5 was investigated by DFT methods. The calculations revealed a band gap of 1.53 eV for Sr3Ga3N5 and 1.46 eV for Ba3Ga3N5
Analysis of Oscillations and Defect Measures for the Quasineutral Limit in Plasma Physics
We perform a rigorous analysis of the quasineutral limit for a hydrodynamical
model of a viscous plasma represented by the Navier Stokes Poisson system in
. We show that as the velocity field strongly
converges towards an incompressible velocity vector field and the density
fluctuation weakly converges to zero. In general the limit
velocity field cannot be expected to satisfy the incompressible Navier Stokes
equation, indeed the presence of high frequency oscillations strongly affects
the quadratic nonlinearities and we have to take care of self interacting wave
packets. We shall provide a detailed mathematical description of the
convergence process by using microlocal defect measures and by developing an
explicit correctors analysis. Moreover we will be able to identify an explicit
pseudo parabolic pde satisfied by the leading correctors terms. Our results
include all the previous results in literature, in particular we show that the
formal limit holds rigorously in the case of well prepared data.Comment: Submitted pape
Centrality dependence of subthreshold meson production in Ni+Ni collisions at 1.9A GeV
We analysed the meson production in central Ni+Ni collisions at the
beam kinetic energy of 1.93A GeV with the FOPI spectrometer and found the
production probability per event of . This new data point allows for the first time
to inspect the centrality dependence of the subthreshold meson
production in heavy-ion collisions. The rise of meson multiplicity per
event with mean number of participants can be parameterized by the power
function with exponent . The ratio of to
production yields seems not to depend within the experimental
uncertainties on the collision centrality, and the average of measured values
