HSAF-induced antifungal effects in Candida albicans through ROS-mediated apoptosis

Heat-stable antifungal factor (HSAF) belongs to polycyclic tetramate macrolactams (PTMs), which inhibits many fungal pathogens and is effective in inhibiting Candida albicans (C. albicans). In this study, we found that HSAF induced the apoptosis of C. albicans SC5314 through inducing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Nevertheless, we validated the efficacy of HSAF against candidiasis caused by C. albicans in a murine model in vivo, and HSAF significantly improved survival and reduced fungal burden compared to vehicles. A molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was also investigated, revealing the theoretical binding mode of HSAF to the β-tubulin of C. albicans. This study first found PTMs-induced fungal apoptosis through ROS accumulation in C. albicans and its potential as a novel agent for fungicides

Simulating A Shared Associative Memory On A Transputer Network: Linda

http://www.emse.fr/~mbeig/PUBLIS/1993-ESM-p628-beigbeder.ps.gzInternational audienceIn this paper we present a Linda implementation on a distributed memory parallel computer. Linda is a parallel programming paradigm providing a small set of extensions to any of the sequential languages such as C, FORTRAN: : : . This paradigm allows the porting of programs between various architectures of parallel computers. It is based on a shared associative memory, namely the tuple space. On distributed memory systems, this shared memory has to be simulated. Our implementation runs on a transputer network with any underlying topology. We first present the Linda operators, then the protocol used to manage the tuple space is described, and a dynamic load balancing scheme is also presented

DREW : A Dialogical Reasoning Web Tool

http://ooop.emse.fr/spip/IMG/pdf/DREW-ICTE2002-EN.pdfNational audienceThis paper presents the tool developed and used during the first year of the European IST project SCALE1 (Internet- Based intelligent tool for Supporting Collaborative Argumentation and Learning). This tool allows argumentative interactions across internet that can be used in pedagogical situations. In adjunction to regular collaborative tools (chat, white board and text editor), a specific collaborative graph editor was designed according to Toulmin's representation of argumentative debate. All the interactions are recorded in structured trace files that can be further studied by the cogniticians and educationalist partners of the project and can be used as examples for teacher training in argumentation. The whole architecture of the system relies on a client-server architecture and uses open Internet protocol technology (XML and Java language). The tool is used via a regular browser, doesn't need any software installation on the client side and has a multi language interface. This modular architecture also enables easy integration of new interactive modules
