Development of a Corpus for Userbased Scientific Question Answering
Tese de mestrado, Bioinformática e Biologia Computacional, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências, 2021In recent years Question & Answering (QA) tasks became particularly relevant in the research field of natural language understanding. However, the lack of good quality datasets has been an important limiting factor in the quest for better models. Particularly in the biomedical domain, the scarcity of gold standard labelled datasets has been a recognized obstacle given its idiosyncrasies and complexities often require the participation of skilled domain¬specific experts in producing such datasets. To address this issue, a method for automatically gather Question¬Answer pairs from online QA biomedical forums has been suggested yielding a corpus named BiQA. The authors describe several strategies to validate this new dataset but a human manual verification has not been conducted. With this in mind, this dissertation was set out with the objectives of performing a manual verification of a sample of 1200 questions of BiQA and also to expanding these questions, by adding features, into a new corpus of text ¬ BiQA2 ¬ with the goal of contributing with a new corpusfor biomedical QA research. Regarding the manual verification of BiQA, a methodology for its characterization was laid out and allowed the identification of an array of potential problems related to the nature of its questions and answers aptness for which possible improvement solutions were presented. Concomitantly, the proposed new BiQA2 corpus ¬ created upon the validated questions and answers from the perused samples from BiQA ¬ builds new features similar to those observed in other biomedical corpus such as the BioASQ dataset. Both BiQA and BiQA2 were applied to deep learning strategies previously submitted to the BioASQ competition to assess their performance as a source of training data. Although the results achieved with the models created using BiQA2 exhibit limited capability pertaining to the BioASQ challenge, they also show some potential to contribute positively to model training in tasks such as Document re-ranking and answering to ‘yes/no’ questions
do utilizador.
mobilidade do utilizador.Mobile and ubiquitous computing has evolved significantly since 1991, the
year when Weiser had a pioneering vision of what would be. The emergence
of new mobile devices, the development of applications for those devices, new
forms of interaction and especially the inclusion of sensors with the capacity to
collect and capture the context of the user, allowed to provide people-centric
services which improve their quality of life.
The movement analysis is currently one of the most relevant activities in
the context of ubiquitous and urban computing. It is a broad discipline that
uses many types of sensors for data collection, various data types of different
nature, various strategies of participatory and/or collaborative data collection,
a wide range of techniques for data analysis, and a set of visualization
techniques for spatio-temporal data.
As part of this work, and taking advantage of the great Wi-Fi networks
proliferation, a new algorithm was developed, using only the identification of
the AP with the highest signal strength, as well as the respective neighboring
APs, and without prior knowledge of network topology, is able to identify the
relevant places in the user’s everyday life. These places, and the displacements
between them, allow the creation of Personal Mobility Maps which represent
the mobility habits of the user
Human mobility analysis by collaborative radio landscape observation
A new method to analyze the spatio-temporal activities of humans based on the symbolic information that can be extracted from a set
of observations of mobile networks taken through smart phones is presented. Specifically, GSM andWiFi network observations collected
by several users are gathered to collaboratively build a symbolic base map of the logical structure of the geography. At the same time a
map of the mobility of each individual is also created from the same set of observations. The Proximity Map is then used to provide some
spatial context to the Individual Mobility Maps. This information is intended to be used for the analysis of transportation efficiency.
For the accomplishment of this case study, a survey of articles published in the Portuguese Newspaper

In this work, we present a review of the literature in order to expand the knowledge
about the Internet of Things and show some of the current trends and projects, with this
technology, developed in primary and secondary education, as well as challenges and
potential applicability in education. Finally, as the school textbook is one of the main
resources used by teachers in Portugal, it is argued that there may be transformations in
this resource, considering the potential of the Internet of Things. It was concluded that
although the Internet of Things presents the potential to facilitate access to real and
constantly updated data, there are still a few projects developed in the scope of
education in primary and secondary education.publishe

Tracing dynamic behaviours in distributed learning communities
Experience and research reports agree that the timely contribution of participants, namely students and tutors, in distributed learning communities, is a key factor for the achievement of the collective and individual learning aims. The technological support required for Internet based distributed learning communities provides means to effectively trace the behaviour of each participant and analyse it according to a pre-defined time pattern reference, enabling the automated early detection of some unwanted disturbances and enabling the execution of procedures aiming at its correction. This paper presents and discusses a conceptual framework for tracing dynamic behaviour of participants in Internet based distributed learning communities, and presents work in progress related to its implementation.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - Ref.
