Introduction 6; 2. Objectifs de l’enquête 7; 3. Modulation Recognition for MIMO Communications
International audienceThe blind recognition of communication parameters is an important research topic in both commercial and civilian systems. In this paper, we investigate the blind recognition of the modulation. Currently most part of the existing algorithms assumes that the transmitter uses a single-antenna. This study extends the problem for multiple-antennas (MIMO) systems. We adopt a Maximum Likelihood approach for the blind recognition of the modulation and we consider two different situations. First, we assume the channel knowledge at the receiver side and we expose the optimal solution which is called Average Likelihood Ratio Test (ALRT). Then, we relax this assumption and we propose a second method based on a Hybrid Likelihood Ratio Test (HLRT)
Optical extinction in a single layer of nanorods
We demonstrate that almost 100 % of incident photons can interact with a
monolayer of scatterers in a symmetrical environment. Nearly-perfect optical
extinction through free-standing transparent nanorod arrays has been measured.
The sharp spectral opacity window, in the form of a characteristic Fano
resonance, arises from the coherent multiple scattering in the array. In
addition, we show that nanorods made of absorbing material exhibit a 25-fold
absorption enhancement per unit volume compared to unstructured thin film.
These results open new perspectives for light management in high-Q, low volume
dielectric nanostructures, with potential applications in optical systems,
spectroscopy, and optomechanics
Introduction
International audienceGlobalization, as a process of accelerated commercial exchanges between different types of universality, is a long-term phenomenon that is often seen as part of the 15th century’s Age of Discovery (Grataloup, 2006; Boucheron, 2009). This was the period when ‘world economies’ first began to be organized structurally through trade which led to the launch of international commerce as a form of capitalism with the Mediterranean as one of the main marketplaces (Braudel, 1993a, 1993b). In the 19th century, colonization and new industrial revolutions provided the bases for greater and more concentrated movements of people and goods (Wallerstein, 2006)
Multi-resonant absorption in ultra-thin silicon solar cells with metallic nanowires
International audienceWe propose a design to confine light absorption in flat and ultra-thin amorphous silicon solar cells with a one-dimensional silver grating embedded in the front window of the cell.We show numerically that multi-resonant light trapping is achieved in both TE and TM polarizations. Each resonance is analyzed in detail and modeled by Fabry-Perot resonances or guided modes via grating coupling. This approach is generalized to a complete amorphous silicon solar cell, with the additional degrees of freedom provided by the buffer layers. These results could guide the design of resonant structures for optimized ultra-thin solar cells
Quantitative Assessment of Carrier Density by Cathodoluminescence (2): GaAs nanowires
Precise control of doping in single nanowires (NWs) is essential for the
development of NW-based devices. Here, we investigate a series of MBE-grown
GaAs NWs with Be (p-type) and Si (n-type) doping using high-resolution
cathodoluminescence (CL) mapping at low- and room-temperature. CL spectra are
analyzed selectively in different regions of the NWs. Room-temperature
luminescence is fitted with the generalized Planck's law and an absorption
model, and the bandgap and band tail width are extracted. For Be-doped GaAs
NWs, the bandgap narrowing provides a quantitative determination of the hole
concentration ranging from about to
cm, in good agreement with the targeted doping levels. For Si-doped GaAs
NWs, the electron Fermi level and the full-width at half maximum of
low-temperature CL spectra are used to assess the electron concentration to
approximately to cm. These findings
confirm the difficulty to reach highly-doped n-type GaAs NWs, may be due to
doping compensation. Notably, signatures of high concentration (5-9 cm) at the very top of NWs are unveiled
