Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms and cannabis use after 1 year among students of the i-Share cohort

The objective of the study was to evaluate the association between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms and cannabis use after 1 year among students according to previous cannabis use. Methods Students in France were recruited from February 2013 to July 2020 in the i-Share cohort. 4,270 participants were included (2,135 who never used cannabis at inclusion and 2,135 who did). The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS) was used to assess ADHD symptoms at inclusion. Cannabis use frequency was evaluated 1 year after inclusion. Multinomial regressions were conducted to assess the association between inclusion ADHD symptoms and cannabis use after 1 year. Results Increase in ASRS scores was linked with a greater probability to use cannabis after 1 year and to have a higher cannabis use frequency (once a year—once a month adjusted odds ratio [OR]: 1.24 (1.15–1.34), more than once a month adjusted OR: 1.43 (1.27–1.61)). Among participants who never used cannabis at inclusion, this association disappeared (once a year—once a month adjusted OR: 1.15 (0.95–1.39), more than once a month adjusted OR: 1.16 (0.67–2)) but remained in participants who ever used cannabis at inclusion (once a year—once a month adjusted OR: 1.17 (1.06–1.29), more than once a month adjusted OR: 1.35 (1.18–1.55)). Conclusions High levels of ADHD symptoms in students could lead to continued cannabis use rather than new initiations.The preparation and initiation of the i-Share project was funded by the program ‘Invest for future’ (reference ANR-10-COHO-05). Co-translational assembly and localized translation of nucleoporins in nuclear pore complex biogenesis

mRNA translation is coupled to multiprotein complex assembly in the cytoplasm or to protein delivery into intracellular compartments. Here, by combining systematic RNA immunoprecipitation and single-molecule RNA imaging in yeast, we have provided a complete depiction of the co-translational events involved in the biogenesis of a large multiprotein assembly, the nuclear pore complex (NPC). We report that binary interactions between NPC subunits can be established during translation, in the cytoplasm. Strikingly, the nucleoporins Nup1/Nup2, together with a number of nuclear proteins, are instead translated at nuclear pores, through a mechanism involving interactions between their nascent N-termini and nuclear transport receptors. Uncoupling this co-translational recruitment further triggers the formation of cytoplasmic foci of unassembled polypeptides. Altogether, our data reveal that distinct, spatially segregated modes of co-translational interactions foster the ordered assembly of NPC subunits and that localized translation can ensure the proper delivery of proteins to the pore and the nucleus

Medical conditions and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms from early childhood to adolescence

The comorbidity between physical and mental health conditions is challenging and frequently goes unrecognized in practice. Associations between Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and physical conditions have been reported in youth. However, prior research failed to: (1) address the patterns of associations in early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence within the same population sample; (2) consider a large set of physical disorders at the same time; (3) take confounders into account. Our goal was to assess the associations between ADHD symptoms and a broad set of physical conditions across developmental periods. This birth cohort study (n = 2057) is the first to explore the associations between ADHD and a wide range of medical conditions by encompassing the whole early development from 5 months to 17 years in the same sample and relying on innovative network analyses. We found significant associations between ADHD symptoms and several physical conditions, some of which were observed in early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence (e.g., asthma, sleep problems) or were confounded by socioeconomic status or psychiatric comorbidities (e.g., body mass index, dental caries). The study calls for an effective integrated care model encompassing mental and general healthcare across the developmental period.</p
