Majorana spinors and extended Lorentz symmetry in four-dimensional theory
An extended local Lorentz symmetry in four-dimensional (4D) theory is
considered. A source of this symmetry is a group of general linear
transformations of four-component Majorana spinors GL(4,M) which is isomorphic
to GL(4,R) and is the covering of an extended Lorentz group in a 6D Minkowski
space M(3,3) including superluminal and scaling transformations. Physical
space-time is assumed to be a 4D pseudo-Riemannian manifold. To connect the
extended Lorentz symmetry in the M(3,3) space with the physical space-time, a
fiber bundle over the 4D manifold is introduced with M(3,3) as a typical fiber.
The action is constructed which is invariant with respect to both general 4D
coordinate and local GL(4,M) spinor transformations. The components of the
metric on the 6D fiber are expressed in terms of the 4D pseudo-Riemannian
metric and two extra complex fields: 4D vector and scalar ones. These extra
fields describe in the general case massive particles interacting with an extra
U(1) gauge field and weakly interacting with ordinary particles, i.e.
possessing properties of invisible (dark) matter.Comment: 24 page
Accurate radial velocity and metallicity of the Large Magellanic Cloud old globular clusters NGC1928 and NGC1939
We present results obtained from spectroscopic observations of red giants located in the fields of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) globular clusters (GCs) NGC1928 and NGC1939. We used the GMOS and AAOmega+2dF spectrographs to obtain spectra centred on the Ca II triplet, from which we derived individual radial velocities (RVs) and metallicities. From cluster members we derived mean RVs of RVNGC1928 = 249.58±4.65 km s-1 and RVNGC1939 = 258.85±2.08 km s-1, and mean metallicities of [Fe/H]NGC1928 = -1.30±0.15 dex and [Fe/H]NGC1939 = -2.00±0.15 dex. We found that both GCs have RVs and positions consistent with being part of the LMC disc, so that we rule out any possible origin, but in the same galaxy. By computing the best solution of a disc that fully contains each GC, we obtained circular velocities for the 15 known LMC GCs. We found that 11/15 of the GCs share the LMC rotation derived from HST and Gaia DR2 proper motions. This outcome reveals that the LMC disc existed since the very early epoch of the galaxy formation and experienced the steep relatively fast chemical enrichment shown by its GC metallicities. The four remaining GCs turned out to have circular velocities not compatible with an in situ cluster formation, but rather with being stripped from the SMC.Fil: Piatti, Andres Eduardo. Is Strangeness Still Strange at the LHC?
Strangeness production is calculated in a pQCD-based model (including nuclear
effects) in the high transverse momentum sector, where pQCD is expected to work
well. We investigate pion, kaon, proton and lambda production in pp and
heavy-ion collisions. Parton energy loss in AA collisions is taken into
account. We compare strange-to-non-strange meson and baryon ratios to data at
RHIC, and make predictions for the LHC. We find that these ratios significantly
deviate from unity not only at RHIC but also at the LHC, indicating the special

Four rural cemeteries in central western NSW: Islands of Australiana in a European sea?
Vascular plants present in groundstoreys of variously–managed areas in four cemeteries in central western NSW – two on the Central Western Slopes (Garra and Toogong) and two on the Central Tablelands (Lyndhurst and Carcoar) – were recorded over periods of 6–10 years. It was hypothesised that (a) areas of the cemeteries with a history of nil or low disturbance would represent high quality remnant vegetation (i.e. contain a diversity of native species but few naturalised species), and (b) that clearing of woody vegetation, together with similar management (e.g. regular mowing) would result in homogenisation of the groundstoreys such that many species, native and naturalised, would be common to all sites. 344 species (176 native, 154 naturalised and 14 non–naturalised exotics) were recorded across the four cemeteries. Many native species that were rare in the surrounding agricultural lands were present in the cemeteries (enhancing their value as conservation areas) but no cemetery contained areas of groundstorey that would qualify as ‘pristine’. Across all management areas, the proportions of naturalised species in the native + naturalised floras of the cemeteries ranged from 46 to 55 %. Though never dominant, naturalised species also comprised high proportions (42 to 51 %) of the floras of the least disturbed (nil or infrequently mown) areas within each cemetery. Many (40 %) of the species recorded occurred at only one cemetery. This partly explained why the floras of similarly– managed parts of cemeteries on the Central Western Slopes were, contrary to expectations, markedly different to those on the Central Tablelands. However, within the same botanic subdivision, floras – particularly of naturalised species in regularly mown grasslands – were more similar (‘homogenised’) than those of nil or infrequently mown grasslands
An Inversion Method for Measuring Beta in Large Redshift Surveys
A precision method for determining the value of Beta= Omega_m^{0.6}/b, where
b is the galaxy bias parameter, is presented. In contrast to other existing
techniques that focus on estimating this quantity by measuring distortions in
the redshift space galaxy-galaxy correlation function or power spectrum, this
method removes the distortions by reconstructing the real space density field
and determining the value of Beta that results in a symmetric signal. To remove
the distortions, the method modifies the amplitudes of a Fourier plane-wave
expansion of the survey data parameterized by Beta. This technique is not
dependent on the small-angle/plane-parallel approximation and can make full use
of large redshift survey data. It has been tested using simulations with four
different cosmologies and returns the value of Beta to +/- 0.031, over a factor

Algebraic properties of generalized Rijndael-like ciphers
We provide conditions under which the set of Rijndael functions considered as
permutations of the state space and based on operations of the finite field
\GF (p^k) ( a prime number) is not closed under functional
composition. These conditions justify using a sequential multiple encryption to
strengthen the AES (Rijndael block cipher with specific block sizes) in case
AES became practically insecure. In Sparr and Wernsdorf (2008), R. Sparr and R.
Wernsdorf provided conditions under which the group generated by the
Rijndael-like round functions based on operations of the finite field \GF
(2^k) is equal to the alternating group on the state space. In this paper we
provide conditions under which the group generated by the Rijndael-like round
functions based on operations of the finite field \GF (p^k) () is

Smoothly-varying hopping rates in driven flow with exclusion
We consider the one-dimensional totally asymmetric simple exclusion process
(TASEP) with position-dependent hopping rates. The problem is solved,in a mean
field/adiabatic approximation, for a general (smooth) form of spatial rate
variation. Numerical simulations of systems with hopping rates varying linearly
against position (constant rate gradient), for both periodic and open boundary
conditions, provide detailed confirmation of theoretical predictions,
concerning steady-state average density profiles and currents, as well as

Proposal for an IMLS Collection Registry and Metadata Repository
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign proposes to design, implement, and research a collection-level registry and item-level metadata repository service that will aggregate information about digital collections and items of digital content created using funds from Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Leadership Grants. This work will be a collaboration by the University Library and the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. All extant digital collections initiated or augmented under IMLS aegis from 1998 through September 30, 2005 will be included in the proposed collection registry. Item-level metadata will be harvested from collections making such content available using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI PMH). As part of this work, project personnel, in cooperation with IMLS staff and grantees, will define and document appropriate metadata schemas, help create and maintain collection-level metadata records, assist in implementing OAI compliant metadata provider services for dissemination of item-level metadata records, and research potential benefits and issues associated with these activities. The immediate outcomes of this work will be the practical demonstration of technologies that have the potential to enhance the visibility of IMLS funded online exhibits and digital library collections and improve discoverability of items contained in these resources. Experience gained and research conducted during this project will make clearer both the costs and the potential benefits associated with such services. Metadata provider and harvesting service implementations will be appropriately instrumented (e.g., customized anonymous transaction logs, online questionnaires for targeted user groups, performance monitors). At the conclusion of this project we will submit a final report that discusses tasks performed and lessons learned, presents business plans for sustaining registry and repository services, enumerates and summarizes potential benefits of these services, and makes recommendations regarding future implementations of these and related intermediary and end user interoperability services by IMLS projects.unpublishednot peer reviewe
