Dual band combiner for horn antenna
A corrugated horn antenna, adapted to be coupled to a waveguide at its apex for X-band excitation is further adapted to be connected to waveguides through a circumferential slot for S-band excitation at four distinct phases selected for the desired S-band polarization. The circumferential slot is positioned along the axial length of the horn for good impedance matching and is provided with an X-band choke in the form of two concentric choke slots. For further improvement in impedance matching, the second (outer) choke slot is divided by plugs into four segments that coincide with waveguide ports for the four distinct phases of the S-band
UK utility data integration: overcoming schematic heterogeneity
In this paper we discuss syntactic, semantic and schematic issues which inhibit the integration of utility data in the UK. We then focus on the techniques employed within the VISTA project to overcome schematic heterogeneity. A Global
Schema based architecture is employed. Although automated approaches to Global Schema definition were attempted
the heterogeneities of the sector were too great. A manual approach to Global Schema definition was employed. The
techniques used to define and subsequently map source utility data models to this schema are discussed in detail. In order to ensure a coherent integrated model, sub and cross domain validation issues are then highlighted. Finally the proposed framework and data flow for schematic integration is introduced

Ballistic magnon heat conduction and possible Poiseuille flow in the helimagnetic insulator CuOSeO
We report on the observation of magnon thermal conductivity 70
W/mK near 5 K in the helimagnetic insulator CuOSeO, exceeding that
measured in any other ferromagnet by almost two orders of magnitude. Ballistic,
boundary-limited transport for both magnons and phonons is established below 1
K, and Poiseuille flow of magnons is proposed to explain a magnon mean-free
path substantially exceeding the specimen width for the least defective
specimens in the range 2 K 10 K. These observations establish

A correlation between lattice parameters, oxygen composition, and the
thermoelectric and Hall coefficients is presented for single-crystal
Li(0.9)Mo(6)O(17), a quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) metallic compound. The
possibility that this compound is a compensated metal is discussed in light of
a substantial variability observed in the literature for these transport

Dense sphere packings from optimized correlation functions
Elementary smooth functions (beyond contact) are employed to construct pair
correlation functions that mimic jammed disordered sphere packings. Using the
g2-invariant optimization method of Torquato and Stillinger [J. Phys. Chem. B
106, 8354, 2002], parameters in these functions are optimized under necessary
realizability conditions to maximize the packing fraction phi and average
number of contacts per sphere Z. A pair correlation function that incorporates
the salient features of a disordered packing and that is smooth beyond contact
is shown to permit a phi of 0.6850: this value represents a 45% reduction in
the difference between the maximum for congruent hard spheres in three
dimensions, pi/sqrt{18} ~ 0.7405, and 0.64, the approximate fraction associated
with maximally random jammed (MRJ) packings in three dimensions. We show that,
surprisingly, the continued addition of elementary functions consisting of
smooth sinusoids decaying as r^{-4} permits packing fractions approaching
pi/sqrt{18}. A translational order metric is used to discriminate between
degrees of order in the packings presented. We find that to achieve higher
packing fractions, the degree of order must increase, which is consistent with
the results of a previous study [Torquato et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2064,

Azumaya Objects in Triangulated Bicategories
We introduce the notion of Azumaya object in general homotopy-theoretic
settings. We give a self-contained account of Azumaya objects and Brauer groups
in bicategorical contexts, generalizing the Brauer group of a commutative ring.
We go on to describe triangulated bicategories and prove a characterization
theorem for Azumaya objects therein. This theory applies to give a homotopical
Brauer group for derived categories of rings and ring spectra. We show that the
homotopical Brauer group of an Eilenberg-Mac Lane spectrum is isomorphic to the
homotopical Brauer group of its underlying commutative ring. We also discuss

HST-NICMOS Observations of Terzan 5: Stellar Content and Structure of the Core
We report results from HST-NICMOS imaging of the extremely dense core of the
globular cluster Terzan 5. This highly obscured bulge cluster has been
estimated to have one of the highest collision rates of any galactic globular
cluster, making its core a particularly conducive environment for the
production of interacting binary systems. We have reconstructed high-resolution
images of the central 19"x19" region of Terzan 5 by application of the drizzle
algorithm to dithered NIC2 images in the F110W, F187W, and F187N near-infrared
filters. We have used a DAOPHOT/ALLSTAR analysis of these images to produce the
deepest color-magnitude diagram (CMD) yet obtained for the core of Terzan 5. We
have also analyzed the parallel 11"X11" NIC1 field, centered 30" from the
cluster center and imaged in F110W and F160W, and an additional NIC2 field that
is immediately adjacent to the central field. This imaging results in a clean
detection of the red-giant branch and horizontal branch in the central NIC2
field, and the detection of these plus the main-sequence turnoff and the upper
main sequence in the NIC1 field. We have constructed an H versus J-H CMD for
the NIC1 field. We obtain a new distance estimate of 8.7 kpc, which places
Terzan 5 within less than 1 kpc of the galactic center. We have also determined
a central surface-density profile which results in a maximum likelihood
estimate of 7.9" +/- 0.6" for the cluster core radius. We discuss the
