    Restricted Supergauge invariance, N=2 Coadjoint Orbit and N=2 Quantum Supergravity

    It is shown that the N=2 superconformal transformations are restricted N=1 supergauge transformations of a supergauge theory with Osp(2,2) as a gauge group. Based on this result, a canonical derivation of the Osp(2,2) current algebra in the superchiral gauge formulation of N=2 supergravity is presented.Comment: 20 page

    The BKB_K Kaon Parameter in the Chiral Limit

    We introduce four-point functions in the hadronic ladder resummation approach to large NcN_c QCD Green functions. We determine the relevant one to calculate the BKB_K kaon parameter in the chiral limit. This four-point function contains both the large momenta QCD OPE and the small momenta ChPT at NLO limits, analytically. We get B^Kχ=0.38±0.15\hat B_K^\chi = 0.38 \pm 0.15. We also give the ChPT result at NLO for the relevant four-point function to calculate BKB_K outside the chiral limit, while the leading QCD OPE is the same as the chiral limit one.Comment: 17 page

    Outpatient Treatment of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection to Prevent Coronavirus Disease 2019 Progression

    As of March 2021, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had caused more than 123 million infections and almost 3 million deaths worldwide. Dramatic advances have been made in vaccine development and nonpharmaceutical interventions to stop the spread of infection. However, treatments to stop disease progression are limited. A wide variety of "repurposed"drugs evaluated for treatment of COVID-19 have had little or no benefit. More recently, intravenous monoclonal antibody (mAb) combinations have been authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration for emergency use for outpatients with mild to moderate COVID-19 including some active against emerging severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 variants of concern. Easier to administer therapeutics including intramuscular and subcutaneous mAbs and oral antivirals are in clinical trials. Reliable, safe, effective COVID-19 treatment for early infection in the outpatient setting is of urgent and critical importance. Availability of such treatment should lead to reduced progression of COVID-19

    Learning in large learning spaces:the academic engagement of a diverse group of students

    Teaching larger groups of students is a growing phenomenon in HE and this brings with it, its own challenges not least for the students themselves but also their lecturers. Demographic factors as well as the experiences that characterise us as individuals will impact upon our ability to learn. The pilot study reported here considered the “academic engagement” of a diverse group of students where their course is delivered in large learning environments. As a pilot study, the paper concludes with the identification of two areas which are worthy of further research. Firstly, the study highlighted that mature students were more likely to engage in learning strategies that are associated with surface learning – the binary opposite to which practitioners often strive to achieve. Secondly, the research suggests that students who appear to know their tutors well indicate a preference for study approaches that are likely to develop deeper learning

    Effective interaction for pf-shell nuclei

    An effective interaction is derived for use in the full pf basis. Starting from a realistic G-matrix interaction, 195 two-body matrix elements and 4 single-particle energies are determined by fitting to 699 energy data in the mass range 47 to 66. The derived interaction successfully describes various structures of pf-shell nuclei. As examples, systematics of the energies of the first 2+ states in the Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe, and Ni isotope chains and energy levels of 56,57,58Ni are presented.     Fluctuation-dissipation relationship in chaotic dynamics

    We consider a general N-degree-of-freedom dissipative system which admits of chaotic behaviour. Based on a Fokker-Planck description associated with the dynamics we establish that the drift and the diffusion coefficients can be related through a set of stochastic parameters which characterize the steady state of the dynamical system in a way similar to fluctuation-dissipation relation in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. The proposed relationship is verified by numerical experiments on a driven double well system.Comment: Revtex, 23 pages, 2 figure

    A Detailed Study of the Gluino Decay into the Third Generation Squarks at the CERN LHC

    In supersymmetric models a gluino can decay into tb\tilde{\chi}^{\pm}_1 through a stop or a sbottom. The decay chain produces an edge structure in the m_{tb} distribution. Monte Carlo simulation studies show that the end point and the edge height would be measured at the CERN LHC by using a sideband subtraction technique. The stop and sbottom masses as well as their decay branching ratios are constrained by the measurement. We study interpretations of the measurement in the minimal supergravity model. We also study the gluino decay into tb and \tilde{\chi}^{\pm}_2 as well as the influence of the stop left-right mixing on the m_{bb} distribution of the tagged tbtb events.Comment: revtex, 20 pages in PRD format, 35 eps file

    Theoretical Study of One-dimensional Chains of Metal Atoms in Nanotubes

    Using first-principles total-energy pseudopotential calculations, we have studied the properties of chains of potassium and aluminum in nanotubes. For BN tubes, there is little interaction between the metal chains and the tubes, and the conductivity of these tubes is through carriers located at the inner part of the tube. In contrast, for small radius carbon nanotubes, there are two types of interactions: charge-transfer (dominant for alkali atoms) leading to strong ionic cohesion, and hybridization (for multivalent metal atoms) resulting in a smaller cohesion. For Al-atomic chains in carbon tubes, we show that both effects contribute. New electronic properties related to these confined atomic chains of metal are analyzed.Comment: 12 pages + 3 figure
