The Thorad-Agena is a two-stage launch vehicle consisting of a Thorad first-stage and an Agena second-stage, connected by a booster adapter. The composite vehicle, including the shroud and the booster adapter, is about 33 meters (109 ft) long. The total weight at lift-off is approximately 91 625 kilograms (202 000 lbm)

Surface-induced cubic anisotropy in nanomagnets

We investigate the effect of surface anisotropy in a spherical many-spin magnetic nanoparticle. By computing minor loops, two-dimensional (2D) and 3D energyscape, and by investigating the behavior of the net magnetization, we show that in the case of not too strong surface anisotropy the behavior of the many-spin particle may be modeled by that of a macrospin with an effective energy containing uniaxial and cubic anisotropy terms. Critical parameters of the shuttle multispectral radar antenna (SMRA) which most affect antenna performance were identified. A preliminary methematical model is presented for describing SMRA performance under the influence of various physical and environmental factors which might degrade performance. Because user groups have not agreed on optimum frequencies best suited for the broadest range of application, the study incorporates frequencies ranging from 1.2 to 14.5 GHz, as well as a consideration of incidence angles from near nadir to nearly 50 deg

Spin Dynamics of a Canted Antiferromagnet in a Magnetic Field

The spin dynamics of a canted antiferromagnet with a quadratic spin-wave dispersion near \vq =0 is shown to possess a unique signature. When the anisotropy gap is negligible, the spin-wave stiffness \dsw (\vq, B) = (\omega_{\vq}-B)/q^2 depends on whether the limit of zero field or zero wavevector is taken first. Consequently, \dsw is a strong function of magnetic field at a fixed wavevector. Even in the presence of a sizeable anisotropy gap, the field dependence of both \dsw and the gap energy distinguishes a canted antiferromagnet from a phase-separated mixture containing both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic regions.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

Lupin processing : a new development

For a number of years Grain Pool marketing representatives have approachd stockfeed manufacturers around the world in an attempt to broaden the market for Western Australian lupin seed. Wherever there was enough consumer interest to conduct a nutritional evaluation of the product, lupins were found to be non competitive for inclusion in both pig and poultry rations, while at the same price being acceptable as a cattle feed ingredient. The reason for this disparity proved to be the varying degrees of fibre digestability of lupins for the various livestock tested. It became apparent that the fibrous lupin seed coat or hull was the difference between West Australian lupin seed penetrating the world\u27s pig and poultry markets or being restricted to lupin exports for ruminants only. The only way the Grain Pool could be competetive with other protein sources was to supply dehulled lupins or lupin kernels. Having identified the demand for dehulled lupins, the next task was to find a use for the by-product, the lupin hull. The lupin hull represents about one-quarted of the whole seed and if the hulls were simply discarded, the premium required for the kernels would price it out of most markets, bearing in mind that dehulling costs must also be include

LAW BOOKS OF THE YEAR (1943-44)

Contrary to my inclination and somewhat against my better judgment I have been prevailed upon by the editor to repeat the experiment begun last year, viz., to produce a sort of running account of some of the more important legal publications which have appeared in the last twelve months. It goes almost without saying that a competent review of a single serious work requires both considerable time and space. An adequate critical review of fifty or sixty works would be quite out of the question for anyone who had anything else to do. In my comments on the books which follow I have been forced to lean heavily on more extensive reviews appearing elsewhere; and, although I have sometimes had to rely on what authors have said in their own prefaces, I have in general studiously avoided relying on publishers\u27 blurbs. While I cannot pretend to have studied thoroughly all the books I shall hereafter mention, I have, in more cases than I care to remember, either read the whole work or a large part of it. At the conclusion of this labor I can repeat what the ancient English scribe added to a manuscript which he had finished copying: Explicit hic totum; pro Christo da mihi potum
