In this study the author challenges previous scholarship which characterizes the work of Austrian dramatist Franz Grillparzer (1791-1872) as eminently personal and the perception of his male characters as lacking in masculinity. By analyzing male characters in thirteen of Grillparzer's plays as well as the dramatist's comments on his work, Coenen argues that the diversity represented by Grillparzer's male characters paints a much more complete and nuanced vision of the human soul than previously recognized

Pilotstudie D-screening: screening op ontwikkelingsachterstand bij het jonge kind, uitgevoerd door de jeugdarts

In een vergelijkende proefopzet met twee groepen (een interventie- en controlegroep) werd de opbrengst en uitvoerbaarheid onderzocht van een screening op ontwikkelingsachterstand bij het jonge kind: de D(evelopmental)- screening. De screening werd uitgevoerd door de jeugdarts bij kinderen die het consultatiebureau bezochten op de leeftijd van 9, 14, of 26 maanden. Bij de kinderen in de controlegroep werd op gebruikelijke wijze door de jeugdarts een ontwikkelingsonderzoek (het Van Wiechenonderzoek) afgenomen. Bij de kinderen in de interventiegroep werden de uitslagen van het Van Wiechenonderzoek ingevoerd in een webtool en werd de D-screening uitgevoerd: Met één druk op een knop werd een thermometer getoond die het risico aangaf op een ontwikkelingsachterstand op latere leeftijd, d.w.z. het aangewezen zijn op een vorm van speciaal onderwijs. Dit risico werd geschat op basis van de uitslagen van het Van Wiechenonderzoek en achtergrondkenmerken (o.a. opleiding ouder(s), erfelijke belasting, en Apgar score van het kind bij geboorte). Talking Justice: The Role of Antiracism in the Writing Center

he article describes the process that four writing center consultants took to design and implement an antiracist workshop at the Oklahoma State University Writing Center (OSUWC). Using antiracist pedagogy, feminist invitational rhetoric, and inclusive writing center pedagogy, this essay documents the creation of an antiracist workshop designed for writing center staff and consultants, our presentation of the workshop at the South Central Writing Centers Association conference, the revision process, and training of writing center staff at the OSUWC. Rather than outline a one-size-fits-all workshop, this article provides a framework for addressing racism with reflexive, context-based resources.University Writing Cente

De El Polifemo, o Polifemo y Circe, comedia escrita en 1630 por Antonio Mira de Amescua, Juan Pérez de Montalbán y Pedro Calderón de la Barca, no se había hecho una nueva edición desde 1850. La edición supuestamente crítica de Álvaro Ibáñez Chacón y Francisco José Sánchez, incluida en la del teatro completo de Mira de Amescua (Universidad de Granada, 2006), resulta insatisfactoria. Este artículo pretende reconstruir correctamente la historia textual de la comedia y el método de trabajo que emplearon los editores recientes para la fijación del texto.No new edition of El Polifemo, or Polifemo y Circe, a play written in 1630 by Antonio Mira de Amescua, Juan Pérez de Montalbán and Pedro Calderón de la Barca, had been published since 1850. El proceso de revisión en Calderón, visto a través de sus comedias autógrafas

Los autógrafos de comedias que de Calderón se conservan no son primeros borradores, sino versiones preparadas por el autor para ser entregados a un usuario, normalmente una compañía teatral. Por lo tanto, han de ser estudiados como productos finales de un proceso de composición. Las enmiendas autorales que contienen son casi siempre fruto de la revisión de un texto previamente redactado y pretenden siempre ser inteligibles para otra persona. They should therefore be studied as final products of the process of composition. The authorial corrections they contain are nearly always the fruit of the revision of a previously composed text, and aim to be intelligible for an outsider. The abridgements tend to have no other end than abbreviating the text and thus, also, the memorization of the texts by the actors and the duration of the performance. Finally, various passages Calderón copied on a folio he glued on top of the earlier version, the two drafts preserved of two pages of “El mágico prodigioso”, and the relocated passages of “Yerros de Naturaleza y aciertos de la Fortuna” bear testimony of the zeal with which Calderón polished his verses even as he copied them
