Electronic scanning pressure measuring system and transducer package
An electronic scanning pressure system that includes a plurality of pressure transducers is examined. A means obtains an electrical signal indicative of a pressure measurement from each of the plurality of pressure transducers. A multiplexing means is connected for selectivity supplying inputs from the plurality of pressure transducers to the signal obtaining means. A data bus connects the plurality of pressure transducers to the multiplexing means. A latch circuit is connected to supply control inputs to the multiplexing means. An address bus is connected to supply an address signal of a selected one of the plurality of pressure transducers to the latch circuit. In operation, each of the pressure transducers is successively scanned by the multiplexing means in response to address signals supplied on the address bus to the latch circuit
Temporal learning in the cerebellum: The microcircuit model
The cerebellum is that part of the brain which coordinates motor reflex behavior. To perform effectively, it must learn to generate specific motor commands at the proper times. We propose a fundamental circuit, called the MicroCircuit, which is the minimal ensemble of neurons both necessary and sufficient to learn timing. We describe how learning takes place in the MicroCircuit, which then explains the global behavior of the cerebellum as coordinated MicroCircuit behavior
Comparison of predicted and experimental performance of large-bore roller bearing operating to 3.0 million DN
Bearing inner and outer race temperatures and the amount of heat transferred to the lubricant were calculated by using the computer program CYBEAN. The results obtained were compared with previously reported experimental data for a 118 mm bore roller bearing that operated at shaft speeds to 25,500 rpm, radial loads to 8,900 N (2000 lb), and total lubricant flow rates to 0.0102 cu m/min (2.7 gal/min). The calculated results compared well with the experimental data
Calculated and experimental data for a 118-mm bore roller bearing to 3 million DN
The operating characteristics for 118 mm bore cylindrical roller bearing are examined using the computer program CYBEAN. The predicted results of inner and outer-race temperatures and heat transferred to the lubricant generally compared well with experimental data for shaft speeds to 3 million DN (25,000 rpm), radial loads to 8900 N (2000 lb), and total lubricant flow rates to 0.0102 cu m/min (2.7 gal/min)
Population Dynamics in the Penna Model
We build upon the recent steady-state Penna model solution, Phys.Rev.Lett.
89, 288103 (2002), to study the population dynamics within the Penna model. We
show, that any perturbation to the population can be broken into a collection
of modes each of which decay exponentially with its respective time constant.
The long time behaviour of population is therefore likely to be dominated by
the modes with the largest time constants. We confirm our analytical approach
with simulation data.Comment: 6 figure
Crossflow effects on steady and fluctuating pressures on an ogive-cylinder cone-frustum model in supersonic separated flow
Wind-tunnel tests were conducted on an ogive-cylinder model with two axisymmetric protuberances having cone frustum angles of cone = 23 deg and 45 deg that were used to generate detached shock waves and the resulting separated flow areas downstream of the shock. The tests were conducted in a 9 by 7 foot supersonic wind tunnel at a free-stream Mach number of 2.0 and at Reynolds numbers of 1.5 x 1 million and 3.9 x 1 million, based on body diameter. The model had an afterbody fineness ratio of 8.3, and the ogive nose had a fineness ratio of 3.0. Two characteristics of the fluctuating pressures in surface vortex flows that result from the crossflow component, (velocity along the tunnel longitudinal axis free stream angle of attack), in combination with changes in the longitudinal pressure gradient were measured: (1) the broadband, rms-pressure coefficients and (2) the power spectral densities. Measurements are presented for various flow regions on the model such as the attached turbulent boundary layer, the detached frustum shock wave, and separated flow areas. The results indicate that the pressure fluctuations around or in the neighborhood of the foci of the vortex flows had broadband intensities and power spectral densities nearly identical to the levels previously measured in separated-flow regions at angles of attack of 0 deg
Why People Play Table-Top Role-Playing Games: A Grounded Theory of Becoming as Motivation
There is a paucity of research related to the motivation of people who play table-top role-playing games (TRPGs). Two questions drove this research: (1) What motivates people to play TRPGs and (2) Can a single supra-motivator be developed which envelopes a larger theory of why people participate in TRPGs? Grounded Theory methodology was used to investigate why people initiate and continue to participate in table-top role-playing games. Fourteen people who attended a 4-year college who played TRPGs and two people who did not play were interviewed regarding their participation in role-playing games. Open codes, emergent categories, conceptual categories, and a theoretical category indicated there exist two conceptual categories related to why people initiate participation in TRPGs and five conceptual categories related to why people continue to play TRPGs. These categories were linked together to develop the theoretical category of “becoming” to explain the motivations of people who play TRPGs. The emergent theory of becoming as motivation, limitations, and future directions for research are discussed within the interpretive context and research context
Bulletin No. 241 - Peach Harvesting Studies
The purpose of the four seasons\u27 study of maturity indexes of Elberta type peaches, made in Utah during the years 1926, 1928, 1929, and 1932 and presented in this publication, was to determine more accurately the best stage of maturity of peaches for distant shipment. In general, the procedure was: (1) To record color, pressure test, and other maturity indexes of fruit from trees under various conditions of culture, age, and vigor; (2) to classify the fruit by size and ground color; (3) to store under conditions comparable to refrigerated shipment to market; and (4) to record the appearance, quality, and condition of fruit when withdrawn from storage. Elberta, Early Elberta, and J. H. Hale varieties were investigated. In 1932, maturity indexes were studied in their relation to pruning methods, precooling, and chemical content of fruit
Lubrication and performance of high-speed rolling-element bearings
Trends in aircraft engine operating speeds have dictated the need for rolling-element bearings capable of speeds to 3 million DN. A review of high-speed rolling-element bearing state-of-the-art performance and lubrication is presented. Through the use of under-race lubrication and bearing thermal management bearing operation can be obtained to speeds of 3 million DN. Jet lubricated ball bearings are limited to 2.5 million DN for large bore sizes and to 3 million DN for small bore sizes. Current computer programs are able to predict bearing thermal performance
