Understanding the newly observed Y(4008) by Belle
Very recently a new enhancement around 4.05 GeV was observed by Belle
experiment. In this short note, we discuss some possible assignments for this
enhancement, i.e. and molecular state. In these two
assignments, Y(4008) can decay into with comparable
branching ratio with that of . Thus one suggests
high energy experimentalists to look for Y(4008) in channel.
Furthermore one proposes further experiments to search missing channel
, and especially and
, which will be helpful to distinguish and
molecular state assignments for this new enhancement.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Typos correcte
The Cleo Rich Detector
We describe the design, construction and performance of a Ring Imaging
Cherenkov Detector (RICH) constructed to identify charged particles in the CLEO
experiment. Cherenkov radiation occurs in LiF crystals, both planar and ones
with a novel ``sawtooth''-shaped exit surface. Photons in the wavelength
interval 135--165 nm are detected using multi-wire chambers filled with a
mixture of methane gas and triethylamine vapor. Excellent pion/kaon separation
is demonstrated.Comment: 75 pages, 57 figures, (updated July 26, 2005 to reflect reviewers

Charmless Exclusive Baryonic B Decays
We present a systematical study of two-body and three-body charmless baryonic
B decays. Branching ratios for two-body modes are in general very small,
typically less than , except that \B(B^-\to p \bar\Delta^{--})\sim
1\times 10^{-6}. In general, due to
the large coupling constant for . For three-body modes we
focus on octet baryon final states. The leading three-dominated modes are with a branching ratio of
order for and
for . The penguin-dominated decays with strangeness
in the meson, e.g., and , have appreciable rates and the mass
spectrum peaks at low mass. The penguin-dominated modes containing a strange
baryon, e.g., , have
branching ratios of order . In contrast, the decay
rate of is smaller. We explain why some of
charmless three-body final states in which baryon-antibaryon pair production is
accompanied by a meson have a larger rate than their two-body counterparts:
either the pole diagrams for the former have an anti-triplet bottom baryon
intermediate state, which has a large coupling to the meson and the
nucleon, or they are dominated by the factorizable external -emission
process.Comment: 46 pages and 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. D. Major changes are:

The Determination of alpha_s from Tau Decays Revisited
We revisit the determination of alpha_s(m_tau) using a fit to inclusive tau
hadronic spectral moments in light of (1) the recent calculation of the
fourth-order perturbative coefficient K_4 in the expansion of the Adler
function, (2) new precision measurements from BABAR of e+e- annihilation cross
sections, which decrease the uncertainty in the separation of vector and
axial-vector spectral functions, and (3) improved results from BABAR and Belle
on tau branching fractions involving kaons. We estimate that the fourth-order
perturbative prediction reduces the theoretical uncertainty, introduced by the
truncation of the series, by 20% with respect to earlier determinations. We
discuss to some detail the perturbative prediction and show that the effect of
the incomplete knowledge of the series is reduced by using the so-called
contour-improved calculation, as opposed to fixed-order perturbation theory
which manifests convergence problems. The corresponding theoretical
uncertainties are studied at the tau and Z mass scales. Nonperturbative
contributions extracted from the most inclusive fit are small, in agreement
with earlier determinations. Systematic effects from quark-hadron duality
violation are estimated with simple models and found to be within the quoted
systematic errors. The fit gives alpha_s(m_tau) = 0.344 +- 0.005 +- 0.007,
where the first error is experimental and the second theoretical. After
evolution to M_Z we obtain alpha_s(M_Z) = 0.1212 +- 0.0005 +- 0.0008 +- 0.0005,
where the errors are respectively experimental, theoretical and due to the
evolution. The result is in agreement with the corresponding NNNLO value
derived from essentially the Z width in the global electroweak fit. The
alpha_s(M_Z) determination from tau decays is the most precise one to date.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figure
Calculation of two-loop virtual corrections to b --> s l+ l- in the standard model
We present in detail the calculation of the virtual O(alpha_s) corrections to
the inclusive semi-leptonic rare decay b --> s l+ l-. We also include those
O(alpha_s) bremsstrahlung contributions which cancel the infrared and mass
singularities showing up in the virtual corrections. In order to avoid large
resonant contributions, we restrict the invariant mass squared s of the lepton
pair to the range 0.05 < s/mb^2 < 0.25. The analytic results are represented as
expansions in the small parameters s/mb^2, z = mc^2/mb^2 and s/(4 mc^2). The
new contributions drastically reduce the renormalization scale dependence of
the decay spectrum. For the corresponding branching ratio (restricted to the
above s-range) the renormalization scale uncertainty gets reduced from +/-13%
to +/-6.5%.Comment: 41 pages including 9 postscript figures; in version 2 some typos and

B --> Phi K_S and Supersymmetry
The rare decay B --> Phi K_S is a well-known probe of physics beyond the
Standard Model because it arises only through loop effects yet has the same
time-dependent CP asymmetry as B --> Psi K_S. Motivated by recent data
suggesting new physics in B --> Phi K_S, we look to supersymmetry for possible
explanations, including contributions mediated by gluino loops and by Higgs
bosons. Chirality-preserving LL and RR gluino contributions are generically
small, unless gluinos and squarks masses are close to the current lower bounds.
Higgs contributions are also too small to explain a large asymmetry if we
impose the current upper limit on B(B_s --> mu mu). On the other hand,
chirality-flipping LR and RL gluino contributions can provide sizable effects
and while remaining consistent with related results in B --> Psi K_S, Delta
M_s, B --> X_s gamma and other processes. We discuss how the LR and RL
insertions can be distinguished using other observables, and we provide a
string-based model and other estimates to show that the needed sizes of mass
insertions are reasonable.Comment: 33 pages, 32 figures, Updated version for PRD. Includes discussions
of other recent works on this topic. Added discussions & plots for gluino
mass dependence and effects of theoretical uncertaintie
Measurements of the Branching Fractions and Helicity Amplitudes in B --> D* rho Decays
Using 9.1 fb-1 of e+ e- data collected at the Upsilon(4S) with the CLEO
detector using the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, measurements are reported for
both the branching fractions and the helicity amplitudes for the decays B- ->
D*0 rho- and B0bar -> D*+ rho-. The fraction of longitudinal polarization in
B0bar -> D*+ rho- is found to be consistent with that in B0bar -> D*+ l- nubar
at q^2 = M^2_rho, indicating that the factorization approximation works well.
The longitudinal polarization in the B- mode is similar. The measurements also
show evidence of non-trivial final-state interaction phases for the helicity
amplitudes.Comment: 11 pages postscript, also available through

B^0 -> phi K_S in SUGRA models with CP violations
We examine the B -> phi K decays within the framework of SUGRA models making
use of the improved QCD factorization method of Beneke et al. which allows
calculations of non-factorizable contributions. All other experimental
constraints (B -> X_S gamma, neutron and electron electric dipole moments, dark
matter constraints, etc.) are imposed. We calculate the CP violating parameters
S_{phi K_S}, C_{phi K_S} and A_{phi K^{-+}} as well as the branching ratios
(BR) of B^0 and B^{+-}, Br[B -> phi K]. We find for the Standard Model(SM) and
mSUGRA it is not possible to account for the observed 2.7 sigma deviation
between S_{phi K_S} and S_{J/Psi K_S}. In general the BRs are also in 3 sigma
disagreement with experiment, except in the parameter region where the weak
annihilation terms dominate the decay (and hence where the theory is least
reliable). Thus if future data confirm the current numbers, this would
represent the first significant breakdown of both the SM and mSUGRA. We show
then that adding a SUGRA non-universal A soft breaking left-right term mixing
the second and third generations in either the down or up quark sector, all
data can be accommodated for a wide range of parameters. The full 6x6 quark
mass matrices are used and the SUSY contributions calculated without
approximation.Comment: 22 pages, 3 figures. Added references. Minor changes, to be published

Measurement of the B --> K^* gamma Branching Fractions and Asymmetries
We report measurements of the radiative decay B --> K^*\gamma. The analysis
is based on a data sample containing 85.0*10^6 B meson pairs collected by the
Belle detector at the KEKB storage ring. We measure branching fractions of
Br(B^0 --> K^{*0}\gamma) = (4.01 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.17)*10^{-5} and Br(B^+ -->
K^{*+}\gamma) = (4.25 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.24)*10^{-5}, where the first and second
errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The isospin asymmetry
between B^0 and B^+ decay widths is measured to be \Delta_{0+} = +0.012 \pm
0.044 \pm 0.026. We search for a partial rate asymmetry between CP conjugate
modes, and find A_{cp}(B --> K^*\gamma) = =0.015 \pm 0.044 \pm 0.012.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
