    The article presents the Impact Evaluation results carried out in the Financial Education Program for Women Beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família Program (BFP) and Retirees with income of up to two minimum wages. This program aims to promote the increase of financial literacy and changes in habits and behaviors, in order to develop skills and abilities that help to manage the family budget efficiently. The methodology used was the one of experimental experience and made possible the coexistence with beneficiaries and retirees in their homes, seeking to understand the realities and the local needs. The change in behavior through the development of skills and abilities, as well as the acquired knowledge, demonstrated that decision making becomes more conscious, promoting autonomy and meaningful better in the quality of life of the family and the family environment

    La gobernanza de las migraciones en la Unión Europea: un análisis de la propuesta del Nuevo Pacto Europeo sobre Migración y Asilo desde una perspectiva de derechos humanos

    Este trabajo pretende fomentar una reflexión sobre la configuración de la gobernanza de las migraciones por parte de la Unión Europea, la cual mantiene una lógica de seguridad basada en la disuasión del fenómeno de la movilidad humana transnacional y en la externalización de la gestión del control migratorio. Desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar, se dará cuenta del desarrollo histórico y normativo de la política migratoria de la Unión Europea, desde sus orígenes hasta la publicación de la propuesta del nuevo Pacto sobre Migración y Asilo. A partir de un enfoque crítico y de derechos humanos, se analizarán las circunstancias que fomentan que las personas migrantes se encuentren en una situación de vulnerabilidad cronificada antes, durante y después de su entrada a la Unión. Todo ello con el fin de articular una visión integral de las causas y las consecuencias del objeto de estudio para los derechos de las personas migrantes.This thesis aims to encourage thought on the European Union’s migration governance conformation, which upholds a security logic based on the deterrence of the phenomenon of transnational human mobility, and on the outsourcing of migration control management. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the historical and normative development of the migration policy of the European Union will be accounted for – from its origins up until the publication of the proposal of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum. The circumstances that force migrants into a situation of chronic vulnerability before, during and after their entry to the Union will be analysed from a critical human rights approach.     Solid-state NMR study of stereocomplexes formed by enantiomeric star-shaped PEG-PLA copolymers in water

    Solid-state NMR was applied to samples obtained by freeze-drying hydrogels of 1:1 (PEG65-NHCO-PLLA13)8/(PEG65-NHCO-PDLA13)8 or (PEG65-NHCO-PDLA13)8 only star block copolymers (where PEG, PLLA, and PDLA stand for poly(ethylene glycol), poly(l-lactide), and poly(d-lactide), respectively) in order to get insight into the different structural and dynamic properties of stereocomplexed poly(lactide) (PLA) aggregates with respect to single enantiomer ones responsible for the improved mechanical and degradation properties of the corresponding hydrogels. 13C MAS NMR experiments together with 13C relaxation time measurements indicated that the PLA domains in (PEG65-NHCO-PLLA13)8/(PEG65-NHCO-PDLA13)8 were highly crystalline, whereas those in (PEG65-NHCO-PDLA13)8 were mainly amorphous. On the basis of 1H relaxation and spin-diffusion experiments, similar average dimensions were determined for the PLA aggregates in the two samples. PLA stereocomplexation was found to strongly affect the conformational behavior of PEG chains. Under the assumption that freeze-drying preserves the structure of at least the PLA aggregates, the results obtained are of value for understanding self-aggregation of PEG–PLA star block copolymers in water

    Abundance and composition of free and aggregate-occluded carbohydrates and lignin in two forest soils as affected by wildfires of different severity

    International audienceOrganic matter is the soil component most affected by wildfires, both in terms of abundance and composition. Fire-induced alteration of soil organic matter (SOM) depends on heating intensity and duration, oxygen availability and other factors related to topography, climate, soil and vegetation features. Particularly affected by fire is the litter layer, but SOM from the uppermost mineral soil can also experience some major changes. In this study, we investigated the direct impact of fire on molecular SOM parameters in density fractions isolated from the top 2.5 cm of mineral soil in two forests that recently experienced wildfires of different severity. One, located in Tuscany, Central Italy, is a mixed forest of Downy oak and Maritime pine, developed on Acrisols formed on sandy lacustrine deposits, affected by a moderately severe fire. The other, located in Victoria, South-East Australia, is a mixed-species eucalypt forest, developed on a Cambisol formed on sandy Devonian sediments, affected by an extremely severe fire (the infamous 'Black Saturday' fire). The purpose of this study was the assessment of fire-induced changes on amount and composition of the bulk SOM and SOM associated to soil fractions having different densities. We used 1.8 Mg m(-3) as density cut-off and distinguished between free and aggregate-occluded SOM. In particular, the analyses focused on abundance and composition of two major SOM components, proposed as molecular indicators of fire severity: the non-cellulosic neutral sugars, digested by trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), and the lignin-derived phenolic monomers, released by cupric oxide (CuO) oxidation. The chemical structure of both bulk SOM and SOM fractions were analysed by solid-state C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. In contrast to the moderately severe fire affecting the Italian site, the extremely severe fire at the Australian site caused substantial loss of SOM from the top mineral soil. Both fires had major effects on SOM composition. In spite of the evident impact they experienced, neither hydrolysable sugars nor lignin phenols resulted to be reliable indicators of fire severity. Moreover, both fires apparently broke up soil aggregates, hence promoting the release of some occluded organic matter. The fire-induced changes of SOM observed have implications for the C cycle, so highlighting the critical role of wildfire occurrence and severity in climate change

    In his most celebrated tale “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, Oscar Wilde stated that “those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril”. This sentence could be a prophetical warning for the practitioner who voluntarily challenges himself with trying to synthesize marine sponge-deriving pyrrole-imidazole alkaloids. This now nearly triple-digit membered community has been growing exponentially in the last 20 years, both in terms of new representatives and topological complexity – from simple, achiral oroidin to the breathtaking 12-ring stylissadines A and B, each possessing 16 stereocenters. While the biosynthesis and the role in the sponge economy of most of these alkaloids still lies in the realm of speculations, significant biological activities for some of them have clearly emerged. This review will account for the progress in achieving the total synthesis of the more biologically enticing members of this class of natural products
