Classroom sharing: Patriarchy in “Patrón” by Abelardo Castillo, a socio-historical reading

    Get PDF
This article describes an interdisciplinary pedagogical experience between the Languages and Literature and the Social Sciences departments developed in the Seminar of Literature and Cultural Studies within the Optional Course for Deeper Studies in the 7th year of Bachillerato de Bellas Artes. The experience is based on the reading of the short story “Patrón” by Abelardo Castillo. The contents of the literary analysis are combined with the historical context of the short story as well as with the geographical concept of the body as territory. Classroom sharing favors interdisciplinary and collaborative work and enriches the acquisition of knowledge for a comprehensive education which follows the institutional project.Bachillerato de Bellas Artes "Prof. Francisco A. Fatigue in laser shock peened open-hole thin aluminium specimens

    Get PDF
An experimental study was performed in order to determine the influence of the sequence of operations on the effectiveness of Laser Shock Peening (LSP) treatment in increasing the fatigue performances of open-hole aluminium specimens. Residual stress measurements, fractographic analysis and FEM analysis were performed, indicating the presence of compressive residual stresses on the surface of the treated specimens and tensile residual stresses in the mid-section along the thickness of the specimens. Negative effects on fatigue lives were encountered on the specimens with the hole already present, while positive effect were observed in specimens in which the hole was drilled after LSP treatment. These results indicate that LSP can be a good solution for “in production” application, in which open holes are to be drilled after the LSP treatment. The application in which LSP is used “in service” on structures with pre-existing cut-outs, has proven to be impracticable in the investigated configuration

Stereocontrolled synthesis of new iminosugar lipophilic derivatives and evaluation of biological activities

    Get PDF
Iminosugars' similarity to carbohydrates determines the exceptional potential for this class of polyhydroxylated alkaloids to serve as potential drug candidates for a wide variety of diseases such as diabetes, lysosomal storage diseases, cancer, bacterial and viral infections. The presence of lipophilic substituents has a significant impact on their biological activities. This work reports the synthesis of three new pyrrolidine lipophilic derivatives O-alkylated in C-6 position. The biological activities of our iminosugars' collection were tested in two cancer cell lines and, due to the pharmaceutical potential, in the model yeast system Saccharomyces cerevisiae to assess their toxicity
