This paper demonstrates the application of the design methodology developed in the Advanced Stated Preference Design project to stated preference experiments. The paper considers binary response experimental designs of two, three and four variables. In addition the special case of a two variable design with an alternative specific constant is also considered. Alternative optimality criteria are discussed. The paper concludes with recommendations on how to apply the design methodolog

Isoscalar dipole strength in ^{208}_{82}Pb_{126}: the spurious mode and the strength in the continuum

    Get PDF
Isoscalar dipole (compression) mode is studied first using schematic harmonic-oscillator model and, then, the self-consistent Hartree-Fock (HF) and random phase approximation (RPA) solved in coordinate space. Taking ^{208}Pb and the SkM* interaction as a numerical example, the spurious component and the strength in the continuum are carefully examined using the sum rules. It is pointed out that in the continuum calculation one has to use an extremely fine radial mesh in HF and RPA in order to separate, with good accuracy, the spurious component from intrinsic excitations.Comment: 19 pages, 2 figure

Low Temperature Measurements by Infrared Spectroscopy in CoFe2_2O4_4 Ceramic

In this paper results of new far-infrared and middle-infrared measurements (wavenumber range of 4000cm-1 - 100cm-1) in the range of the temperature from 300K to 8K of the CoFe2O4 ceramic are presented. The bands positions and their shapes are the same in the wide temperature range. The quality of the sample was investigated by X-ray, EDS and EPMA studies. The CoFe2O4 reveals the cubic structure (Fd-3m) in the temperature range from 85K to 360 K without any traces of distortion. On the current level of knowledge the polycrystalline CoFe2O4 does not exhibit phase transition in the temperature range from 8 K to 300 K.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure

    Hund's Rule for Composite Fermions

We consider the ``fractional quantum Hall atom" in the vanishing Zeeman energy limit, and investigate the validity of Hund's maximum-spin rule for interacting electrons in various Landau levels. While it is not valid for {\em electrons} in the lowest Landau level, there are regions of filling factors where it predicts the ground state spin correctly {\em provided it is applied to composite fermions}. The composite fermion theory also reveals a ``self-similar" structure in the filling factor range 4/3>ν>2/34/3>\nu>2/3.Comment: 10 pages, revte
