Dipole–dipole interaction in superparamagnetic nanocrystalline Fe63.5Cr10Si13.5B9Cu1Nb3

Cr-substituted Finemet-type nanocrystalline alloy (Fe63.5Cr10Si13.5B9Cu1Nb3) has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry, x-ray diffraction, Mo¨ssbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. The Curie temperature of the remaining amorphous phase decreases as the crystalline volume fraction increases, reaching values below room temperature. This feature makes the alloy adequate for studying the magnetic decoupling of the ~Fe,Si! nanocrystals at moderated temperatures and, in particular, the superparamagnetic relaxation in broad temperature and crystalline fraction ranges. It was shown that the anomalous dependence of the coercive field on the annealing temperature can be satisfactorily explained assuming a dipolar-type interaction between the crystallites.DGES del Gobierno español-PB97-1119-CO2-01Fondo de investigación del gobierno húngaro-OTKA T-030753Academia de Ciencias de Hungría-AKP 98-25 2,

A comparative study between a brain Na+,K+-ATPase inhibitor (endobain E) and ascorbic acid

In the search of Na+,K+-ATPase modulators, we have reported the isolation by gel filtration and HPLC of a brain fraction, termed endobain E, which highly inhibits Na+,K+-ATPase activity. In the present study we compared some properties of endobain E with those of ascorbic acid. Kinetic experiments assaying synaptosomal membrane K+-p-nitrophenylphosphatase (K+p-NPPase) activity in the presence of endobain E or ascorbic acid showed that in neither case did enzyme inhibition prove competitive in nature versus K+ or p-NPP concentration. At pH 5.0, endobain E and ascorbic acid maximal UV absorbance was 266 and 258 nm, respectively; alkalinization to pH 14.0 led to absorption drop and shift for endobain E but to absorbance disappearance for ascorbic acid. After cysteine treatment, endobain E absorbance decreased, whereas that of ascorbic acid remained unaltered; iodine treatment led to absorbance drop and shift for endobain E but to absorbance disappearance for ascorbic acid. HPLC analysis of endobain E disclosed the presence of two components: one eluting with retention time and UV spectrum indistinguishable from those of ascorbic acid and a second, as yet unidentified, both exerting Na+,K+-ATPase inhibition.Fil: Rodriguez, Georgina Emma. IMPACT FREQUENCY VALIDATION OF HEAD IMPACT SENSOR TECHNOLOGY FOR USE IN SPORT

    Get PDF
Head impact frequency has been identified as a contributing factor to long-term trauma experienced by the brain. A peak linear acceleration greater than 20g has been proposed as defining a single impact. The purpose of this study was to examine the accuracy of a single head impact sensor to identify 209 impacts under short

MEASUREMENT ACCURACY OF HEAD IMPACT MONITORING SENSOR IN SPORT

Head injury and brain trauma exposure in sport have been recognized as potential contributors to long-term neurological disorders. As a result sensors have been proposed as an impact severity monitoring tool for on-field measurement of head accelerations. The purpose of this study was to characterize the accuracy of a head impact monitoring sensor system. Peak acceleration responses from a Smart lmpact Monitor (SIM) sensor were compared against reference sensors from a Hodgson-WSU headform. The headform with SIM was impacted for 7 impact conditions and 3 inbound energies. Moderate to strong positive correlations were found between the SIM and reference sensors for all impact conditions. At higher inbound energy the SIM overestimated, suggesting that under higher risk conditions the SIM represents a conservative tool in identifying dangerous impacts

Monitoring spatial sustainable development: Semi-automated analysis of satellite and aerial images for energy transition and sustainability indicators

Solar panels are installed by a large and growing number of households due to the convenience of having cheap and renewable energy to power house appliances. In contrast to other energy sources solar installations are distributed very decentralized and spread over hundred-thousands of locations. On a global level more than 25% of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations were decentralized. The effect of the quick energy transition from a carbon based economy to a green economy is though still very difficult to quantify. As a matter of fact the quick adoption of solar panels by households is difficult to track, with local registries that miss a large number of the newly built solar panels. This makes the task of assessing the impact of renewable energies an impossible task. Although models of the output of a region exist, they are often black box estimations. This project's aim is twofold: First automate the process to extract the location of solar panels from aerial or satellite images and second, produce a map of solar panels along with statistics on the number of solar panels. Further, this project takes place in a wider framework which investigates how official statistics can benefit from new digital data sources. At project completion, a method for detecting solar panels from aerial images via machine learning will be developed and the methodology initially developed for BE, DE and NL will be standardized for application to other EU countries. In practice, machine learning techniques are used to identify solar panels in satellite and aerial images for the province of Limburg (NL), Flanders (BE) and North Rhine-Westphalia (DE).Comment: This document provides the reader with an overview of the various datasets which will be used throughout the project. The collection of satellite and aerial images as well as auxiliary information such as the location of buildings and roofs which is required to train, test and validate the machine learning algorithm that is being develope

In this context, recent scholarly attention has been paid to gentrification, real-estate speculation and resident displacement in the context of sustainability and green planning in the global North. Yet we know little about the environmental-justice implications of green infrastructure planning in the context of self-built settlements of the global South. To what extent do green infrastructure interventions produce or exacerbate urban socio-spatial inequities in self-built settlements? Through the analysis of a greenbelt project, an emblematic case of green infrastructure planning in Medellín, we argue that, as the Municipality of Medellín is containing and beautifying low-income neighborhoods through grabbing part of their territories and turning them into green landscapes of privilege and pleasure, communities are becoming dispossessed of their greatest assets-location, land and social capital. In the process, community land is transformed into a new form of aesthetically controlled and ordered nature for the middle and upper classes and for tourists. By contrast, communities' planning alternatives reveal how green planning can better address growth and climate risks in tandem with equitable community development

High rate of smartphone users makes Medan city has big potential for the development of online-base business especially in service application user, such as online transportation. Grab Indonesia is one of the service provider companies for online-base transportation application. Grab sees promising investment value projection in online-base application service as people in Indonesia are highly active users of social media and e- commerce. The problems in this research are whether the agreement between merchant and Grab Indonesia meet the legal construction as electronic contract refers to valid legislation, how is Grab's responsibilities on product quality and safety sold by merchant, and how is dispute settlement procedures between merchant and Grab Indonesia pursuant to agreement contract. This is a normative juridical research with analytical descriptive design that describes the research object through samples or collected data and makes general conclusion. The data are carried out from primary and secondary data, namely primary, secondary and tertiary law; obtained by library study and guided interview. The result demonstrates that agreement between merchant and Grab meet the legal construction as electronic contract refers to valid legislation. Grab's responsibilities on product quality and safety sold by merchant are fully given to the merchant as stated in the term and condition clauses and in Grab's code of conduct. Non-litigation through arbitrage is prioritized in dispute settlement procedures between merchant and Grab pursuant to agreement contract
