    >Magister Scientiae - MScSex determination of human remains is often a dilemma for forensic experts due to the decomposing factor, or, if only part of a body is found. The analysis of DNA is thought to be the most accurate method for sex determination, but the cost and time involvement usually causes a delay in the identification process and in some cases, DNA is not obtainable due to the state of decomposition or contamination. Sexual dimorphism refers to the difference in shape, form or appearance between male and females in the same species. It can also be described as the systematic difference between individuals of different sex in the same species. Dimorphism in the human skeletal system and dentition is well establish. It is generally assumed that the male dentition is larger than the female dentition. In this study, the mesio-distal width of the maxillary incisors and canines, as well as the mandibular canines were measured. Orthodontic study models were used in this study, 50 males and 50 females, in which the sizes of the maxillary central incisors, maxillary lateral incisors, and maxillary and mandibular canines were measured. The results showed that the sizes of the maxillary and the mandibular canines were significantly more accurate in determining sexual dimorphism than the incisors. The logistic regression model, using tooth 13 and 33, provides prediction accuracy of 52% for males and 74% for females

ThesisThis script contains information about most of the equipment and techniques used in interior photography. The script is written in such a way that the information could easily be read and understood, eventhough this is a highly technical and precise field of photography. After reading the script it would become a lot more clearer to the reader what interior photography is all about

Rare Earth Export Restrictions in China: a difference-in-differences analysis:(Master Thesis)

    Get PDF
This thesis has empirically researched what the effect was of China’s export restrictions, regarding rare earth elements, on China’s domestic refining and downstream production of rare earth elements. This was done by using the difference-in-differences technique, using six different models frequently used in gravity model estimations; OLS, Poisson, negative binomial, zero-inflated Poisson, zero-inflated negative binomial and Poisson pseudo-maximum likelihood. The data that is used are Chinese export values to 85 countries divided into roughly 5,000 commodity classes. This research indicates that there is evidence that the export restrictions on rare earths in China resulted in 13.8% to 15.8% more exports of rare earths-using commodities. This would mean that as long as domestic consumption of these commodities remained constant or is increased, the downstream production of rare earths-using commodities also increased with at least these percentages

In this paper we give a complete description of the horofunction boundary of the infinite dimensional real hyperbolic space, and characterise its Busemann points

Operationalized Management Information Systems in Iraq\u27s DMA

The perception of management information systems (MIS) often conjures up images of highly-technical tools requiring arcane development practices and data preparation rituals, but a simple solution providing easy access to the relevant data delivers a bigger impact than a highly technical tool gathering dust. The Iraq National Mine Action Authority has implemented an MIS application for use in the office and field to improve decision-making processes’ speed and quality

The horofunction boundary and Denjoy-Wolff type theorems

In this thesis we will study the horofunction boundary of metric spaces, in particular the Funk, reverse-Funk and Hilbert's metrics, and one of its applications, Denjoy-Wolff type theorems. In a Denjoy-Wolff type setting we will show that Beardon points are star points of the union of the ω-limit sets. We will also show that Beardon and Karlsson points are not unique in R2. In fact, we will show one can have a continuum of Karlsson points. We will establish two Denjoy-Wolff type theorem that confirm the Karlsson-Nussbaum conjecture for classes of non-expanding maps on Hilbert' metric spaces. For unital Euclidean Jordan algebras we will give a description of the intersection of closed horoballs with the boundary of the cone as the radius tends to minus infinity. We will expand on results by Walsh by establishing a general form for the Funk and reverse Funk horofunction boundaries of order-unit spaces. We will also give a full classification of the horofunctions of JH-algebras and the horofunctions and Busemann points of the spin factors for the Funk, reverse Funk and Hilbert metrics. Finally we will show that there exists a reverse-Funk non-Busemann horofunction for the cone of positive bounded self-adjoint operators on an infinite dimensional Hilbert space, the infinite dimensional spin factors and a space in which the pure states are weak* closed, answering a question raised by Walsh in [65]
