The general objective of the present work was to identify the fish species that the fishermen capture and the use they give to them at the lower basin of the Luján River. To this purpose, semi-structured interviews were conducted, which allowed obtaining information on the use that fishers give to the captured fish during the spring of 2015, summer and autumn 2016. Throughout this period, two scenarios were analyzed: weekdays and weekends. At the lower basin of the Luján River, a diversity of social contexts manifested through its actors coexists: the local inhabitants and the inhabitants of neighboring municipalities that visit the area. The most mentioned species throughout the study were: Pimelodus maculatus, Pimelodus albicans, Astyanax sp., Megaleporinus obtusidens y Rhamdia quelen. The obtained results revealed the importance of this territory situated at banks of the Luján River for the inhabitants of the area and the nearby regions due to it is a location that on weekdays offers a space for subsistence fishing, and on weekends for family recreation.Instituto de Limnología "Dr. Raúl A. Redescription of <i>Astyanax erythropterus</i> (Holmberg, 1891) (<i>Teleostei: Characiformes: Characidae</i>) from La Plata basin in Argentina
Astyanax erythropterus (Holmberg, 1891) originally described on the basis of one juvenile, is redescribed herein based on juveniles and adults from the type-localiy. The species differs from its congeners by the combination of 11-13 transverse rows scales above lateral line and 8-10 rows below lateral line; 49-54 perforated scales in the lateral series; iii-v,38-42 anal-fin rays, and dorsal, anal and caudal fins vermilion red in juveniles. The vermilion red coloration of unpaired fins in juveniles of Astyanax is only known in A. correntinus. © 2010 Sociedade Brasileira de Ictiologia.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

First record of Oligosarcus pintoi Campos, 1945 (Characiformes, Characidae) in freshwater courses of Argentina
Currently the known ichthyological biodiversity of the Iguazú National Park is composed by 104 species, two of which correspond to species of “dientudos” of the genus Oligosarcus: O. longirostris and O. menezesi. In this contribution, it is reported within the Park a third species of that genus: Oligosarcus pintoi. This new finding is relevant because it constitutes the first record of the species both in Argentina and in the middle Paraná River basin.Fil: Almirón, Adriana. Universidad Nacional de La Plata.
