Extraskeletal chondroma of the fallopian tube.

    Get PDF
Extraskeletal chondroma can occur in the hands, feet, head and neck. This tumor usually presents as a small solitary nodule. The histogenesis of the tumor is controversial, but some have suggested a metaplastic origin. Chondroma of the fallopian tube is very rare. There is only one report in English literature. The origin of this tumor can be subcoelomic mesenchyme of the tubal serosa or mesenchyme of the myosalpinx. We describe a case of chondroma arising from the serosal surface of the fallopian tube with a review of literature. A 30-yr-old woman visited hospital due to left adnexal mass. On operating finding, 2 x 3 cm sized nodular mass was noted on the left tubal serosal area. The excised mass showed multilobulated appearance covered with thin fibrous membrane. The cut surface was solid, grayish yellow, and myxoid with a focal gelatinous area. The microscopic finding showed islands and elongated lobules of mature benign cartilage without cytologic atypia

Sensitivity of ultralight axion dark matter search with optical quantum sensors

An optical quantum sensor (OQS) based on lasers and alkali-metal atoms is a sensitive ambient-temperature magnetometer that can be used in axion dark matter search with an inductor-capacitor (LC) circuit at kHz and MHz frequencies. We have previously investigated the sensitivity of an LC circuit-OQS axion detector to ultralight axion dark matter that could be achieved using a fT-noise OQS constructed in our lab. In this paper, we investigate the sensitivity that could be potentially reached by an OQS performing close to the fundamental quantum noise levels of 10 aT/Hz\sqrt{\text{Hz}}. To take advantage of the quantum-limited OQS, the LC circuit has to be made of a superconductor and cooled to low temperature of a few K. After considering the intrinsic noise of the advanced axion detector and characterizing possible background noises, we estimate that such an experiment could probe benchmark QCD axion models in an unexplored mass range near 10 neV. Reaching such a high sensitivity is a difficult task, so we have conducted some preliminary experiments with a large-bore magnet and a prototype axion detector consisting of a room-temperature LC circuit and a commercial OQS unit. This paper describes the prototype experiment and its projected sensitivity to axions in detail

CHEMICAL-LOOPING STEAM METHANE REFORMING FOR HYDROGEN PRODUCTION IN A CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED REACTOR

    Get PDF
Two-step steam methane reforming for hydrogen production using a chemical looping system is proposed to improve the conventional processes. The reaction characteristics with iron oxides as an oxygen carrier was determined in a circulating fluidized bed reactor. From this system, high concentrated hydrogen can be continuously produced without any post treatment

    Noncommutative Instantons on R^2_{NC} x R^2_C

    Get PDF
We study U(1) and U(2) noncommutative instantons on R^2_{NC} x R^2_C based on the ADHM construction. It is shown that a mild singularity in the instanton solutions for both self-dual and anti-self-dual gauge fields always disappears in gauge invariant quantities and thus physically regular solutions can be constructed even though any projected states are not involved in the ADHM construction. Furthermore the instanton number is also an integer.Comment: v2: 15 pages, 1 figure, Latex. Added comments for clarification. References adde

A MEMS viscometer for unadulterated human blood

    Get PDF
The design and theoretical modelling of an oscillating micro-mechanical-viscometer designed for the measurement of whole unadulterated human blood, is described. The proposed device utilises the dependence of the squeeze-film damping ratio on properties of the surrounding fluid to measure fluid viscosity using an oscillating plate structure. The optimum geometrical configuration for the device structure has been investigated and a methodology for defining the optimum configuration of the micro-mechanical sensor identified. This is then applied to calculate the predicted noise equivalent viscosity change . It was found that the device performance is limited by electronic noise within the detection circuitry rather than thermal mechanical noise. An electronic noise limited measurement resolution of , is predicted for measurement over a shear range of , at a measurement bandwidth of . The linearity of response of the micro-mechanical-viscometer is considered and the device is predicted to provide a linear measurement response

Extrapulmonary Small Cell Carcinoma of the Liver: Clinicopathological and Immunohistochemical Findings

    Get PDF
Patients with primary small cell carcinoma of the liver have rarely been described in medical literature. Knowledge of clinical, pathological and immunohistochemical properties remains limited. We described an 82-year-old female patient with primary small cell carcinoma of the liver. Histologically, the tumor showed typical morphology of a pulmonary small cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor revealed neuroendocrine differentiation; positive reaction for chromogranin, synaptophysin, CD56, and neuron specific enolase. The tumor was also positive for TTF-1 and c-kit but completely negative for hepatocyte, carcinoembryonic antigen, cytokeratin 7; 19; and 20. Herein, we discussed the clinical, pathological and immunohistochemical findings of extrapulmonary small cell carcinoma of the liver and reviewed the relevant literature

Seroprevalence of Hepatitis A and E Viruses Based on the Third Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey in Korea

AbstractObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis E virus (HEV) in Korea during 2005.MethodsStudy subjects were selected from across Korea using a stratified multistage probability sampling design, and HAV and HEV seroprevalence was compared on the basis of sex, age, and residency. A total of 497 rural and urban people aged 10ā€“99 years of age (meanĀ Ā±Ā SD ageĀ =Ā 28.87Ā Ā±Ā 17.63Ā years) were selected by two-stage cluster sampling and tested serologically for anti-HAV and anti-HEV IgG using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.ResultsAmong this population, the overall seroprevalence of HAV was 63.80% (55.21% aged in their 20s and 95.92% in their 30s, pĀ <Ā 0.01) and that of HEV was 9.40% (5.21% aged in their 20s and 7.14% in their 30s, pĀ <Ā 0.01). Seroprevalence also varied according to area of residence. HEV prevalence in rural areas was higher than that of urban regions based on the anti-HEV antibody, odds ratio 3.22 (95% confidence interval: 1.46ā€“7.10, pĀ <Ā 0.01). There were no significant differences between male and female against anti-HAV/HEV antibodies.ConclusionOur study suggested that the seropositive rates of HAV and HEV might be related to age and environmental conditions

A Case of Inadvertent Anterior Chamber and Corneal Stromal Injection with Antibiotics during Cataract Operation

    Get PDF
Purpose: To report a case of inadvertent anterior chamber and cornea stromal injection with high dose antibiotics and steroids during cataract operation. Methods: During cataract operation on a 78 year-old female patient, high dose gentamicin (20 mg/0.5 ml) and dexamethasone (2 mg/0.5 ml) were inadvertently injected into the anterior chamber and cornea stroma when making cornea edema for sealing of the incision sites. Anterior chamber irrigation with balanced salt solution (BSS) was immediately administered. On postoperative day one, extensive cornea edema was noted, and best-corrected visual acuity was 0.2. Descemet's membrane folds were observed around the corneal incision sites. Topical 5% NaCl and 1% prednisolone were started. Results: Four weeks postoperatively, corneal edema began to reduce significantly. At four months postoperatively, corneal edema fully resolved, and best-corrected visual acuity was 0.8. However, some Descemet's membrane folds still remained, and a decrease in the number of endothelial cells was noted by specular microscope. Conclusions: In this case involving anterior chamber and cornea stromal injection with high dose antibiotics and steroids, immediate anterior chamber irrigation with balanced salt solution seemed an appropriate management, and the patient's long-term visual acuity appears good. To prevent such mistakes, precise labeling of all solutions and use of different syringe needles should be considered.ope
