Distribution-Free Model for Ambulance Location Problem with Ambiguous Demand
Ambulance location problem is a key issue in Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system, which is to determine where to locate ambulances such that the emergency calls can be responded efficiently. Most related researches focus on deterministic problems or assume that the probability distribution of demand can be estimated. In practice, however, it is difficult to obtain perfect information on probability distribution. This paper investigates the ambulance location problem with partial demand information; i.e., only the mean and covariance matrix of the demands are known. The problem consists of determining base locations and the employment of ambulances, to minimize the total cost. A new distribution-free chance constrained model is proposed. Then two approximated mixed integer programming (MIP) formulations are developed to solve it. Finally, numerical experiments on benchmarks (Nickel et al., 2016) and 120 randomly generated instances are conducted, and computational results show that our proposed two formulations can ensure a high service level in a short time. Specifically, the second formulation takes less cost while guaranteeing an appropriate service level.

Log-Poisson Hierarchical Clustering of Cosmic Neutral Hydrogen and Ly-alpha Transmitted Flux of QSO Absorption Spectrum
we study, in this paper, the non-Gaussian features of the mass density field
of neutral hydrogen fluid and the Ly-alpha transmitted flux of QSO absorption
spectrum from the point-of-view of self-similar log-Poisson hierarchy. It has
been shown recently that, in the scale range from the onset of nonlinear
evolution to dissipation, the velocity and mass density fields of cosmic baryon
fluid are extremely well described by the She-Leveque's scaling formula, which
is due to the log-Poisson hierarchical cascade. Since the mass density ratio
between ionized hydrogen to total hydrogen is not uniform in space, the mass
density field of neutral hydrogen component is not given by a similar mapping
of total baryon fluid. Nevertheless, we show, with hydrodynamic simulation
samples of the concordance CDM universe, that the mass density field
of neutral hydrogen, is also well described by the log-Poisson hierarchy. We
then investigate the field of Ly transmitted flux of QSO absorption
spectrum. Due to redshift distortion, Ly transmitted flux fluctuations
are no longer to show all features of the log-Poisson hierarchy. However, some
non-Gaussian features predicted by the log-Poisson hierarchy are not affected
by the redshift distortion. We test these predictions with the high resolution
and high S/N data of quasars Ly absorption spectra. All results given
by real data, including -hierarchy, high order moments and scale-scale
correlation, are found to be well consistent with the log-Poisson hierarchy. We
compare the log-Poisson hierarchy with the popular log-normal model of the
Ly transmitted flux. The later is found to yield too strong
non-Gaussianity at high orders, while the log-Poisson hierarchy is in agreement
with observed data.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figures, accepted by Ap
Log-Poisson Non-Gaussianity of Ly Transmitted Flux Fluctuations at High Redshift
We investigate the non-Gaussian features of the IGM at redshift
using Ly transmitted flux of quasar absorption spectra and cosmological
hydrodynamic simulation of the concordance CDM universe. We show that
the neutral hydrogen mass density field and Ly transmitted flux
fluctuations possess all the non-Gaussian features predicted by the log-Poisson
hierarchy, which depends only on two dimensionless parameters and
, describing, respectively, the intermittence and singularity of the
random fields. We find that the non-Gaussianity of the Ly transmitted
flux of quasars from to can be well reconstructed by the
hydrodynamical simulation samples. Although the Gunn-Peterson optical depth and
its variance underwent a significant evolution in the redshift range of , the intermittency measured by is almost redshift-independent in
this range. More interesting, the intermittency of quasar's absorption spectra
on physical scales hMpc in redshift are found to be
about the same as that on physical scales hMpc at redshifts . Considering the Jeans length is less than 0.1 hMpc at , and
hMpc at , these results imply that the nonlinear evolution
in high and low redshifts will lead the cosmic baryon fluid to a state similar
to fully developed turbulence. The log-Poisson high order behavior of current
high redshift data of quasar's spectrum can be explained by uniform UV
background in the redshift range considered. We also studied the log-Poisson
non-Gaussianity by considering inhomogeneous background. With several
simplified models of inhomogeneous background, we found the effect of the
inhomogeneous background on the log-Poisson non-Gaussianity is not larger than
1-sigma.Comment: 12 pages 10 figures, accepted by MNRA
Aerosolized Colistin for the Treatment of Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Pneumonia: Experience in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Northern Taiwan
Background/PurposeVentilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) due to multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii in critically ill patients presents an emerging challenge to clinicians. Administration of aerosolized colistin as an adjunctive therapy is one therapeutic option mentioned in limited evidence-based studies. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of adjunctive aerosolized colistin treatment for VAP due to MDR pathogens.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who had received aerosolized colistin for treatment of VAP due to MDR A. baumannii in our hospital from August to December 2008.ResultsForty-five patients were enrolled in our study. The mean age was 71 ± 15 years. The mean Acute Physiological and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) scores on the day of intensive care unit admission and on the first day of aerosolized colistin administration were 22.5 ± 6.7 and 18.9 ± 5.7, respectively. The mean duration of intensive care unit stay was 34 ± 16 days. The mean daily dosage of aerosolized colistin was 4.29 ± 0.82 million IU, and the mean duration of administration was 10.29 days. Seventeen patients (37.8%) had a favorable microbiological outcome and 26 (57.8%) showed a clinical response. Mortality due to all causes was 42.2%. No adverse effects related to inhaled colistin were recorded.ConclusionAerosolized colistin may be considered as an adjunct to intravenous treatments in patients with VAP due to colistin-susceptible MDR A. baumannii in critically ill patients
Advancing Topic Segmentation and Outline Generation in Chinese Texts: The Paragraph-level Topic Representation, Corpus, and Benchmark
Topic segmentation and outline generation strive to divide a document into
coherent topic sections and generate corresponding subheadings. Such a process
unveils the discourse topic structure of a document that benefits quickly
grasping and understanding the overall context of the document from a higher
level. However, research and applications in this field have been restrained
due to the lack of proper paragraph-level topic representations and
large-scale, high-quality corpora in Chinese compared to the success achieved
in English. Addressing these issues, we introduce a hierarchical
paragraph-level topic structure representation with title, subheading, and
paragraph that comprehensively models the document discourse topic structure.
In addition, we ensure a more holistic representation of topic distribution
within the document by using sentences instead of keywords to represent
sub-topics. Following this representation, we construct the largest Chinese
Paragraph-level Topic Structure corpus (CPTS), four times larger than the
previously largest one. We also employ a two-stage man-machine collaborative
annotation method to ensure the high quality of the corpus both in form and
semantics. Finally, we validate the computability of CPTS on two fundamental
tasks (topic segmentation and outline generation) by several strong baselines,
and its efficacy has been preliminarily confirmed on the downstream task:
discourse parsing. The representation, corpus, and benchmark we established
will provide a solid foundation for future studies
hCLP46 Increases Smad3 Protein Stability Via Inhibiting its Ubiquitin-Proteasomal Degradation
hCLP46 (human CAP10-like protein 46 kDa) was initially isolated and identified from human acute myeloid leukemia transformed from myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS-AML) CD34+ cells (Teng et al., 2006) and we demonstrated previously that hCLP46 is abnormally expressed in many hematopoietic malignancies (Wang et al., 2010). Studies fromits Drosophila homolog, Rumi, suggested that Notch is a potential target of hCLP46 (Acar et al., 2008). We also found that overexpression of hCLP46 enhances Notch activation and regulates cell proliferation in a cell type-dependent manner (Ma et al., 2011; Chu et al., 2013). However, hCLP46−/− embryos show more severe phenotypes compared to those displayed by other global regulators of canonical Notch signaling, suggesting that hCLP46 is likely to have additional important targets during mammalian development (Fernandez- Valdivia et al., 2011). Based on the crosstalk between Notch and the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling, we proposed that hCLP46 might be involved in TGF-β signal regulation, but the detail mechanism remains unclear
