    Pengaruh Jenis Dan Tingkat Kerapatan Gulma Terhadap Pertumbuhan Dan Produksi Kedelai (Glycine Max [L]. Merr)

    Kedelai (Glycine max [L]. Merr.)merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan utama setelah padi yang mempunyai nilai ekonomi yang cukup tinggi, yaitu sebagai sumber protein nabati bagi kebutuhan pangan manusia. Setiap tahunnya produksi kedelai mengalami penurunan, salah satunya penyebabnya adalah gulma. Kehadiran gulma dapat menyebabkan kompetisi antara gulma dan tanaman kedelai untuk mendapatkan sarana tumbuh yang sama dan jumlahnya terbatas. Jenis dan kerapatan gulmamerupakan faktor penyebab terjadinya kompetisi antara gulma dan tanaman yang berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman kedelai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jenis gulma terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi kedelai, pengaruh kerapatan gulma terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi kedelai, serta pengaruh interaksi antara jenis dan kerapatan gulma terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi kedelai. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Petak Berjalur (Strip Plot Design) dengan 3 kali ulangan secara faktorial.Faktor pertama adalah tiga jenis gulma yaitu Asystasia gangetica, Rottboellia exaltata, Cyperus rotundus. Faktor kedua adalah kerapatan gulma yaitu 0, 10, 20, 40, 80 tanaman/m 2 . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gulma Rottboellia exaltata menurunkan jumlah daun 9 MST, bobot kering tajuk tanaman danjumlah polong kedelai, Cyperus rotundus menurunkan tinggi tanaman 9 MST dan bobot kering akar tanaman, dan Asystasia gangetica menurunkan terhadap tinggi tanaman 9 MST. Kerapatan 10 gulma/m 2 menekanbobot kering akar tanaman, dan kerapatan 80 gulma/m 2 menekan jumlah daun tanaman 9 MST. Antara jenis dan kerapatan gulma hanya terjadi interaksi dalam mempengaruhi tinggi tanaman kedelai 3 MST

    Latina and European American Girls’ Experiences with Academic Sexism and their Self-Concepts in Mathematics and Science During Adolescence

    The study investigated Latina and European American adolescent girls’ (N = 345, M = 15.2 years, range = 13 to 18) experiences with academic sexism in mathematics and science (M/S) and their M/S perceived competence and M/S value (liking and importance). M/S academic sexism was based on girls’ reported experiences hearing sexist comments about girls’ abilities in math and science. Older European American adolescents, and both younger and older Latina adolescents, who experienced several instances of academic sexism felt less competent in M/S than girls who experienced less sexism (controlling for M/S grades). In addition, among older girls (regardless of ethnicity), those who experienced several instances of academic sexism valued M/S less than girls who experienced less sexism

    Facilitators and Barriers to Speech Intervention of Patients with Orofacial Cleft in the Philippines: A Qualitative Study

    Most individuals with orofacial cleft require various healthcare services, including speech therapy. However, Filipino patients constantly face challenges in availing these services due to limitations in the healthcare system of the Philippines. This study aimed to explore the perceptions of patients with orofacial cleft on the factors that may serve as facilitators and barriers to speech intervention. A descriptive phenomenological approach to qualitative research was used to obtain an in-depth understanding of the perceptions of these patients. Semistructured interviews were conducted through online video conferences or mobile phone calls. Twenty-one participants were interviewed, most of who were mothers (90%) of children with orofacial cleft. Ten themes were derived from the transcripts. Five were categorized as facilitators, while the rest were considered as barriers. Generally, the respondents showed positive attitudes toward orofacial cleft, were aware of the communication and swallowing issues of the patients, and actively sought services to address these issues. Most barriers to speech intervention resulted from limited access to quality healthcare services and information. These findings highlight the importance of considering patient perspectives in clinical care. Maximizing facilitators and addressing barriers may improve access to universal healthcare among Filipinos with orofacial cleft

    International audiencePost-operative haemorrhage is a frequent complication of tonsillectomy: a primary haemorrhage occurring in the first hours is rapidly dealt with by the surgical team. A secondary haemorrhage, which commonly occurs once the child has returned home, can be fatal if it is not dealt with quickly. We present two cases of a lethal outcome in children following a secondary post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage, for which the parents filed legal proceedings. Medical liability can be exercised during all stages of health care. Performing an autopsy associated with histological analyses is found to be indispensable for the identification of the causes of bleeding, as well as its mechanism

    Mild therapeutic hypothermia in patients resuscitated from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    Aims: Guidelines recommend mild therapeutic hypothermia (MTH) for survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). However, there is little literature demonstrating a survival benefit. We performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the efficacy of MTH in patients successfully resuscitated from OHCA. Materials and Methods: Electronic databases were searched for RCT involving MTH in survivors of OHCA, and the results were put through a meta-analysis. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality, and the secondary endpoint was favorable neurological function. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed using the Mantel-Haenszel method. A fixed-effect model was used and, if heterogeneity (I2 ) was >40, effects were analyzed using a random model. Results: Six RCT (n = 1400 patients) were included. Overall survival was 50.7%, and favorable neurological recovery was 45.5%. Pooled data demonstrated no significant all-cause mortality (OR, 0.81; 95% CI 0.55-1.21) or neurological recovery (OR, 0.77; 95% CI 0.47-1.24). No evidence of publication bias was observed. Conclusion: This meta-analysis demonstrated that MTH did not confer benefit on overall survival rate and neurological recovery in patients resuscitated from OHCA

    NGIWY-Amide: A Bioinspired Ultrashort Self-Assembled Peptide Gelator for Local Drug Delivery Applications

    Fibrillar structures derived from plant or animal origin have long been a source of inspiration for the design of new biomaterials. The Asn-Gly-Ile-Trp-Tyr-NH2 (NGIWY-amide) pentapeptide, isolated from the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus, which spontaneously self-assembles in water to form hydrogel, pertains to this category. In this study, we evaluated this ultra-short cosmetic bioinspired peptide as vector for local drug delivery applications. Combining nuclear magnetic resonance, circular dichroism, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and rheological studies, the synthesized pentapeptide formed a stiff hydrogel with a high β-sheet content. Molecular dynamic simulations aligned well with scanning electron and atomic-force microscopy studies, revealing a highly filamentous structure with the fibers adopting a helical-twisted morphology. Model dye localization within the supramolecular hydrogel provided insights on the preferential distribution of hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds in the hydrogel network. That was further depicted in the diffusion kinetics of drugs differing in their aqueous solubility and molecular weight, namely, doxorubicin hydrochloride, curcumin, and octreotide acetate, highlighting its versatility as a delivery vector of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds of different molecular weight. Along with the observed cytocompatibility of the hydrogel, the NGIWY-amide pentapeptide may offer new approaches for cell growth, drug delivery, and 3D bioprinting tissue-engineering applications
