Educational Backgrounds and Their Effects on Students’ Transition to College
Home-school has become a common alternative to public- and private-school in America, but it is also highly controversial among researchers and society regarding educational rights and freedoms. Research indicated that these three methods of education do not differ significantly from one another, and there is little indication as to which educational background will best prepare a high school student for his or her adjustment to college. Academic preparation is found to be the most effective factor for a high school students’ transition to college, but little research has been done concerning which education affiliation is most effective in achieving this preparation. It is questionable whether students who are homeschooled can keep up with the academic demands as well as those in private-school or public-school. This study seeks assessed whether students who were homeschooled throughout their high school years are more suited for the transition to college learning than those who attended a public or private-school
Evaluating the relevance (importance) of strategy in controlling business operation costs
Operations and project cost overrun is one of the many challenges faced by businesses in this current global market. The effects of cost overrun are numerous ranging from loss of profit, threat to business competitiveness and survival and many others. Therefore, the need a strategy that incorporates cost control cannot be over emphasized. This article discusses the different cost control techniques that can be employed when drawing a business strategy. Expert judgements from professionals in the oil and gas industry was gathered using a semi structured interview technique for the purposes of analysis for this structure. The findings revealed that one cost control method cannot be used to manage project cost overrun and hence integration of several cost control techniques relevant to a business is the way forward
Consumer\u27s choice in protective eyewear
Seventeen pairs of racquetball eyewear were tested for distortion and loss of field. Four of the seventeen eyewear produced twenty five percent or greater loss of field. Two of the eyewears produced less than one percent loss of field. None produced measurable distortion utilized by our measurement techniques
On narrowing coated conductor film: emergence of granularity-induced field hysteresis of transport critical current
Critical current density Jc in polycrystalline or granular superconducting
material is known to be hysteretic with applied field H due to the focusing of
field within the boundary between adjacent grains. This is of concern in the
so-called coated conductors wherein superconducting film is grown on a
granular, but textured surface of a metal substrate. While previous work has
mainly been on Jc determined using induced or magnetization currents, the
present work utilizes transport current via an applied potential in strip
geometry. It is observed that the effect is not as pronounced using transport
current, probably due to a large difference in criterion voltage between the
two types of measurements. However, when the films are narrowed by patterning
into 200-, 100-, or 80-micron, the hysteresis is clearly seen, because of the
forcing of percolation across higher-angle grain boundaries. This effect is
compared for films grown on ion-beam-assisted-deposited (IBAD) YSZ substrate
and those grown on rolling-assisted-biaxially-textures substrates (RABiTS)
which have grains that are about ten times larger. The hysteresis is more
pronounced for the latter, which is more likely to have a weak grain boundary
spanning the width of the microbridge. This is also of concern to applications
