HIGH-RESOLUTION ROTATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY AND COHERENT CONTROL OF CaH+

We demonstrate methods for precision spectroscopy and coherent quantum state manipulation of a molecular ion, based on quantum-logic spectroscopy [1-3]. In thermal equilibrium with room temperature blackbody radiation, the electronic and vibrational degrees of freedom of the proof-of-principle CaH+^+ molecule are in their ground states. We laser cool the coupled translational motion of a co-trapped Ca+^+ atom and the molecule to near its ground state [4]. Subsequently, we coherently drive rotational Raman transitions using two beams derived from a single frequency laser that is far off-resonance from any molecular transition. Information regarding the molecular states is transferred to the atomic ion using the coupled harmonic motion as an information bus [1-3] and read out via state-dependent fluorescence detection without disturbing the molecular state. In this way, we initialize the molecular ion in a pure quantum state in a probabilistic but heralded fashion [3]. Following preparation, we can drive further rotational transitions up to the THz range with two beams derived from a single, far-off-resonant frequency comb [5, 6]. The final states of the transitions are detected, enabling unambiguous assignment of the observed signals to the corresponding transitions. For CaH+^+, we have measured the frequency of THz rotational transitions with sub-kHz resolution, and improvement to the sub-Hz level seems feasible [7]. This protocol can be extended to investigate coherent rotational-vibrational transitions of a large class of diatomic and polyatomic molecules in the optical and infrared domains. [1] P. O. The airline industry employs advanced e-commerce technologies to retain frequent customers and attract new passengers, but it is likely that not all airlines have clear knowledge about how many gaps should be filled between the status quo and an ideal website. This study proposes an integrated model for evaluating airlines’ websites in terms of the perspectives of “marketing mix 4Ps” and “website quality”. In order to verify the practicality and usefulness of this model, an empirical study of the Taiwanese airline industry is offered to illustrate the application of the proposed model. The model first applies the DEMATEL method to cope with the interdependencies between criteria. It then converts the criteria’s cause and effect relations into a visual structural map where the ANP method can help compute the weight of criteria. Finally, it uses the modified VIKOR method to rank e-commerce websites of the five Taiwanese airlines. Overall, the results show that the Taiwanese airlines still have a great deal of room to improve their websites. This proposed model not only provides helpful information for airlines to understand their websites’ quality level, but also contributes to industrial applications in terms of providing some worthwhile recommendations for building an ideal website

SENTIMENT ANALYSIS OF CHINESE MICROBLOG MESSAGE USING NEURAL NETWORK-BASED VECTOR REPRESENTATION FOR MEASURING REGIONAL PREJUDICE

Regional prejudice is prevalent in Chinese cities in which native residents and migrants lack a basic level of trust in the other group. Like Twitter, Sina Weibo is a social media platform where people actively engage in discussions on various social issues. Thus, it provides a good data source for measuring individuals’ regional prejudice on a large scale. We find that a resentful tone dominates in Weibo messages related to migrants. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, named DKV, for recognizing polarity and direction of sentiment for Weibo messages using distributed real-valued vector representation of keywords learned from neural networks. Such a representation can project rich context information (or embedding) into the vector space, and subsequently be used to infer similarity measures among words, sentences, and even documents. We provide a comprehensive performance evaluation to demonstrate that by exploiting the keyword embeddings, DKV paired with support vector machines can effectively recognize a Weibo message into the predefined sentiment and its direction. Results demonstrate that our method can achieve the best performances compared to other approaches

Spontaneous Dissecting Aneurysm of the Renal Artery: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Primary dissecting aneurysms of the renal artery are exceedingly rare. The triad of flank pain, hematuria, and hypertension of acute onset in the absence of urinary obstruction should suggest this rare condition. We report a case of spontaneous dissecting aneurysm of the renal artery treated using conservative medical treatment. The diagnosis, therapeutic management, and outcome are discussed

In this remark, we note that the anyons, interacting with each other through pairwise potential in external magnetic field, exhibit a simple quantum group symmetry.Comment: IPT-EPFL preprint, typos fixed, minor corrections, references updated, submitted to Physics Letter A

Fascia tissue engineering with human adipose-derived stem cells in a murine model: Implications for pelvic floor reconstruction

    Get PDF
Background/PurposeMesh-augmented vaginal surgery for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) does not meet patients' needs. This study aims to test the hypothesis that fascia tissue engineering using adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) might be a potential therapeutic strategy for reconstructing the pelvic floor.MethodsHuman ADSCs were isolated, differentiated, and characterized in vitro. Both ADSCs and fibroblastic-differentiated ADSCs were used to fabricate tissue-engineered fascia equivalents, which were then transplanted under the back skin of experimental nude mice.ResultsADSCs prepared in our laboratory were characterized as a group of mesenchymal stem cells. In vitro fibroblastic differentiation of ADSCs showed significantly increased gene expression of cellular collagen type I and elastin (p < 0.05) concomitantly with morphological changes. By contrast, ADSCs cultured in control medium did not demonstrate these changes. Both of the engrafted fascia equivalents could be traced up to 12 weeks after transplantation in the subsequent animal study. Furthermore, the histological outcomes differed with a thin (111.0 ± 19.8 μm) lamellar connective tissue or a thick (414.3 ± 114.9 μm) adhesive fibrous tissue formation between the transplantation of ADSCs and fibroblastic-differentiated ADSCs, respectively. Nonetheless, the implantation of a scaffold without cell seeding (the control group) resulted in a thin (102.0 ± 17.1 μm) fibrotic band and tissue contracture.ConclusionOur results suggest the ADSC-seeded implant is better than the implant alone in enhancing tissue regeneration after transplantation. ADSCs with or without fibroblastic differentiation might have a potential but different role in fascia tissue engineering to repair POP in the future

Towards experimental entanglement connection with atomic ensembles in the single excitation regime

    Get PDF
We present a protocol for performing entanglement connection between pairs of atomic ensembles in the single excitation regime. Two pairs are prepared in an asynchronous fashion and then connected via a Bell measurement. The resulting state of the two remaining ensembles is mapped to photonic modes and a reduced density matrix is then reconstructed. Our observations confirm for the first time the creation of coherence between atomic systems that never interacted, a first step towards entanglement connection, a critical requirement for quantum networking and long distance quantum communications
