The Frenchness of Marcel Lefebvre and the Society of St Pius X:a new reading

The case of Marcel Lefebvre and the Society of St Pius X (SSPX) deserves fresh perspectives. The current historiography is too franco-centric, focused on selective aspects of Lefebvre’s biography and the actions of isolated individuals, rather than with the life of the SSPX itself. After evaluating the current state of the historiography, this article proposes a new analysis of the SSPX’s political discourses in France and internationally and undertakes to reframe the relationship between Lefebvre’s life and his congregation by re-examining his African missionary experiences. Such new perspectives will be helpful as the SSPX moves towards regularisation under the pontificate of Pope Francis

A Social-Psychological Model of Human Crowding Phenomena

Previous research on crowding has generally lacked a theoretical perspective. Moreover, there has been a tendency to view crowding in terms of spatial considerations alone and a failure to distinguish between the physical condition (density) and the psychological experience (crowding). In the present discussion, a heuristic model of human crowding phenomena is proposed which permits an integration of various theoretical perspectives and the derivation of experimental hypotheses. Although the limitation of space remains as the essential ingredient of crowding, the proposed model introduces personal and social variables which have a direct bearing on a person's perception of spatial restriction as well as on his attempts to cope with this constraint. The relation between the dimensions of the model is examined in terms of social-psychological theory. Finally, a program for future research is discussed. © 1972 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

Sie wird hier in der Entwicklung der Funktionen, der Strukturen, der Familienbeziehungen sowie der Bedürfnisse analysiert. Die Unterscheidung zwischen aufgezwungenen Be- durfnissen und schöpferischen Bediirfnissen erleichtert die Hervorhebung der Möglichkeiten einer Befreiung des Menschen und einer Wandlung der Familie von einem Zwangsgebilde zu einer fur ihre Mitglieder anziehenden Gruppe. Различие между потребностями — обязательствами и потребностями — стремлениями позволяет более выпукло выявить возможности освобождения личности и превращения семьи из фактора принуждения в привлекательную для ее членов социальную группировку. The statistical conception of the family considered as a refuge and a guarantee of social order is at present out of date. A dynamic conception has been gradually appearing. It is studied here by means of the evolution of functions, the evolution of structures and family relations, and the evolution of needs. A distinction between obligation-needs and aspiration-needs better allows the discovery of the liberating possibilities of persons and the transformation of the coercing family into an attaching group for its members. Nous avons vraiment besoin d'un nouveau genre d'ingénieur économiste rural. [eng] Although fairly brilliant during the 19th century, the french school of agricultural economics has been decoying during the first half of this century. It recovered after 1950. Nevertheless, many short comings are still present : not enough field trips, too much wording, insufficient concern with methodology. We need a new type of economic engineering in agricultural economics.
