Acoustic Spectroscopy of Superfluid 3He in Aerogel

    Get PDF
We have designed an experiment to study the role of global anisotropic quasiparticle scattering on the dirty aerogel superfluid 3He system. We observe significant regions of two stable phases at temperatures below the superfluid transition at a pressure of 25 bar for a 98% aerogel.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in proceedings of Low Temperature Conference 2

    Specific Heat of Disordered 3^{3}He

Porous aerogel is a source of elastic scattering in superfluid 3He and modifies the properties of the superfluid, suppressing the transition temperature and order parameter. The specific heat jumps for the B-phase of superfluid 3He in aerogel have been measured as a function of pressure and interpreted using the homogeneous and inhomogeneous isotropic scattering models. The specific heat jumps for other p-wave states are estimated for comparison.Comment: Manuscript prepared for LT 2

Local well-posedness of the generalized Cucker-Smale model

In this paper, we study the local well-posedness of two types of generalized Cucker-Smale (in short C-S) flocking models. We consider two different communication weights, singular and regular ones, with nonlinear coupling velocities v∣v∣β−2v|v|^{\beta-2} for β>3−d2\beta > \frac{3-d}{2}. For the singular communication weight, we choose ψ1(x)=1/∣x∣α\psi^1(x) = 1/|x|^{\alpha} with α∈(0,d−1)\alpha \in (0,d-1) and β≥2\beta \geq 2 in dimension d>1d > 1. For the regular case, we select ψ2(x)≥0\psi^2(x) \geq 0 belonging to (L_{loc}^\infty \cap \mbox{Lip}_{loc})(\mathbb{R}^d) and β∈(3−d2,2)\beta \in (\frac{3-d}{2},2). We also remark the various dynamics of C-S particle system for these communication weights when β∈(0,3)\beta \in (0,3)

Quantum Phase Transitions in Josephson Junction Chains

We investigate the quantum phase transition in a one-dimensional chain of ultra-small superconducting grains, considering both the self- and junction capacitances. At zero temperature, the system is transformed into a two-dimensional system of classical vortices, where the junction capacitance introduces anisotropy in the interaction between vortices. This leads to the superconductor-insulator transition of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type, as the ratios of the Josephson coupling energy to the charging energies are varied. It is found that the junction capacitance plays a role similar to that of dissipation and tends to suppress quantum fluctuations; nevertheless the insulator region survives even for arbitrarily large values of the junction capacitance.Comment: REVTeX+5 EPS figures, To appear in PRB Rapid

Country Image, Perceived Product Quality and Purchase Intention: the Moderating Roles of Quality Warranty Certificate and Country-Image Transferred Strategies

This article aims at researching on the relationship of country image and customer perception on product quality and purchasing intention in South Korean. Additionally, the moderating roles of product quality warranty and country image transferred strategies are also taken into investigation in this empirical research. In order to make a research on these areas, questionnaire forms were distributed by emails and sending hard copies to 350 target samples in South Korea including Koreans and foreigners who have been living in South Korea and 215 forms were returned back and analyzed by SPSS v.21. The results indicated that gender, age groups and nationalities can significantly influence consumers' perception on the relationship country image and product quality. Surprisingly, the image of origin country produced products does not really affect consumers' perceived product quality, but the image of manufacturing country has a strong and significant influence on consumers' perception in terms of product quality. More interestingly, country image transferred strategy is ineffective in altering consumers' psychological perceptions on country image and perceived product quality. Apart from this, product quality warranty is still workable for boosting consumers' confidence in consuming products in Korean context. Even though this empirical research was considerably and carefully implemented, there are still some significant limitations in practice. The limitations and suggestion are finally introduced and explained

Conservative accounting and linear information valuation models

Prior research using the residual income valuation model and linear information models has generally found that estimates of firm value are negatively biased. We argue that this could result from the way in which accounting conservatism effects are reflected in such models. We build on the conservative accounting model of Feltham and Ohlson (1995) and the Dechow, Hutton and Sloan (1999) (DHS) methodology to propose a valuation model that includes a conservatism-correction term, based on the properties of past realizations of residual income and other information. Other information is measured using analyst-forecast-based predictions of residual income. We use data comparable to the DHS sample to compare the bias and inaccuracy of value estimates from our model and from models similar to those used by DHS and Myers (1999). Valuation biases are substantially less negative for our model, but valuation inaccuracy is not markedly reduced
