Analytical treatment of SUSY Quasi-normal modes in a non-rotating Schwarzschild black hole
We use the Fock-Ivanenko formalism to obtain the Dirac equation which
describes the interaction of a massless 1/2-spin neutral fermion with a
gravitational field around a Schwarzschild black hole (BH). We obtain
approximated analytical solutions for the eigenvalues of the energy
(quasi-normal frequencies) and their corresponding eigenstates (quasi-normal
states). The interesting result is that all the excited states [and their
supersymmetric (SUSY) partners] have a purely imaginary frequency, which can be
expressed in terms of the Hawking temperature. Furthermore, as one expects for
SUSY Hamiltonians, the isolated bottom state has a real null energy eigenvalue.Comment: Version to be published in European Physical Journal
Mean-field model of the ferromagnetic ordering in the superconducting phase of ErNi_2B_2C
A mean-field model explaining most of the details in the magnetic phase
diagram of ErNi_2B_2C is presented. The low-temperature magnetic properties are
found to be dominated by the appearance of long-period commensurate structures.
The stable structure at low temperatures and zero field is found to have a
period of 40 layers along the a direction, and upon cooling it undergoes a
first-order transition at T_C = 2.3 K to a different 40-layered structure
having a net ferromagnetic component of about 0.4 mu_B/Er. The
neutron-diffraction patterns predicted by the two 40-layered structures, above
and below T_C, are in agreement with the observations of Choi et al.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures (Revtex4
Efficient scheme for one-way quantum computing in thermal cavities
We propose a practical scheme for one-way quantum computing based on
efficient generation of 2D cluster state in thermal cavities. We achieve a
controlled-phase gate that is neither sensitive to cavity decay nor to thermal
field by adding a strong classical field to the two-level atoms. We show that a
2D cluster state can be generated directly by making every two atoms collide in
an array of cavities, with numerically calculated parameters and appropriate
operation sequence that can be easily achieved in practical Cavity QED
experiments. Based on a generated cluster state in Box configuration,
we then implement Grover's search algorithm for four database elements in a
very simple way as an example of one-way quantum computing.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Quasinormal modes of a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by free static spherically symmetric quintessence: Electromagnetic perturbations
In this paper, we evaluated the quasinormal modes of electromagnetic
perturbation in a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by the static spherically
symmetric quintessence by using the third-order WKB approximation when the
quintessential state parameter in the range of . Due to
the presence of quintessence, Maxwell field damps more slowly. And when at
, it is similar to the black hole solution in the ds/Ads
spacetime. The appropriate boundary conditions need to be modified.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Slowly rotating black holes in the Horava-Lifshitz gravity
We investigate slowly rotating black holes in the Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz (HL)
gravity. For and , we find a slowly rotating black
hole of the Kehagias-Sfetsos solution in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We
discuss their thermodynamic properties by computing mass, temperature, angular
momentum, and angular velocity on the horizon.Comment: 12 pages, no figures, version to appear in EPJ
Golgi Outpost Synthesis Impaired by Toxic Polyglutamine Proteins Contributes to Dendritic Pathology in Neurons
Dendrite aberration is a common feature of neurodegenerative diseases caused by protein toxicity, but the underlying mechanisms remain largely elusive. Here, we show that nuclear polyglutamine (polyQ) toxicity resulted in defective terminal dendrite elongation accompanied by a loss of Golgi outposts (GOPs) and a decreased supply of plasma membrane (PM) in Drosophila class IV dendritic arborization (da) (C4 da) neurons. mRNA sequencing revealed that genes downregulated by polyQ proteins included many secretory pathway-related genes, including COPII genes regulating GOP synthesis. Transcription factor enrichment analysis identified CREB3L1/CrebA, which regulates COPII gene expression. CrebA overexpression in C4 da neurons restores the dysregulation of COPII genes, GOP synthesis, and PM supply. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)-PCR revealed that CrebA expression is regulated by CREB-binding protein (CBP), which is sequestered by polyQ proteins. Furthermore, co-overexpression of CrebA and Rac1 synergistically restores the polyQ-induced dendrite pathology. Collectively, our results suggest that GOPs impaired by polyQ proteins contribute to dendrite pathology through the CBP-CrebA-COPII pathway. ? 2017 The Author(s)113Ysciescopu
Schottky barrier heights at polar metal/semiconductor interfaces
Using a first-principle pseudopotential approach, we have investigated the
Schottky barrier heights of abrupt Al/Ge, Al/GaAs, Al/AlAs, and Al/ZnSe (100)
junctions, and their dependence on the semiconductor chemical composition and
surface termination. A model based on linear-response theory is developed,
which provides a simple, yet accurate description of the barrier-height
variations with the chemical composition of the semiconductor. The larger
barrier values found for the anion- than for the cation-terminated surfaces are
explained in terms of the screened charge of the polar semiconductor surface
and its image charge at the metal surface. Atomic scale computations show how
the classical image charge concept, valid for charges placed at large distances
from the metal, extends to distances shorter than the decay length of the
metal-induced-gap states.Comment: REVTeX 4, 11 pages, 6 EPS figure
Scalar brane backgrounds in higher order curvature gravity
We investigate maximally symmetric brane world solutions with a scalar field.
Five-dimensional bulk gravity is described by a general lagrangian which yields
field equations containing no higher than second order derivatives. This
includes the Gauss-Bonnet combination for the graviton. Stability and
gravitational properties of such solutions are considered, and we particularily
emphasise the modifications induced by the higher order terms. In particular it
is shown that higher curvature corrections to Einstein theory can give rise to
instabilities in brane world solutions. A method for analytically obtaining the
general solution for such actions is outlined. Genericaly, the requirement of a
finite volume element together with the absence of a naked singularity in the
bulk imposes fine-tuning of the brane tension. A model with a moduli scalar
field is analysed in detail and we address questions of instability and
non-singular self-tuning solutions. In particular, we discuss a case with a
normalisable zero mode but infinite volume element.Comment: published versio
Study of the B^0 Semileptonic Decay Spectrum at the Upsilon(4S) Resonance
We have made a first measurement of the lepton momentum spectrum in a sample
of events enriched in neutral B's through a partial reconstruction of B0 -->
D*- l+ nu. This spectrum, measured with 2.38 fb**-1 of data collected at the
Upsilon(4S) resonance by the CLEO II detector, is compared directly to the
inclusive lepton spectrum from all Upsilon(4S) events in the same data set.
These two spectra are consistent with having the same shape above 1.5 GeV/c.
From the two spectra and two other CLEO measurements, we obtain the B0 and B+
semileptonic branching fractions, b0 and b+, their ratio, and the production
ratio f+-/f00 of B+ and B0 pairs at the Upsilon(4S). We report b+/b0=0.950
(+0.117-0.080) +- 0.091, b0 = (10.78 +- 0.60 +- 0.69)%, and b+ = (10.25 +- 0.57
+- 0.65)%. b+/b0 is equivalent to the ratio of charged to neutral B lifetimes,
tau+/tau0.Comment: 14 page, postscript file also available at
