    Primary results of sedimetological research on the upper Jurassic to lower Cretaceous carbonate rocks in NW Zagros Mountains, Iran

    The upper Jurassic-lower Cretaceous carbonate extensively distributed in Zagros Mountains (southern Iran) is correlated to hydrocarbon reservoir rocks, however has not been studied with sedimentological aspects. The studied section of about 1000 m thick exposed in Kuh-d-Yaghma (Aligdaz Province) mainly consists of shallow marine facies exhibiting sedimentary structures, such as paleosols, paleokarsts, biostromes, and stromatolites. The section was subdivided into nine units based on the results of observation of outcrops and thin sections. Depositional ages were estimated by fossil occurrences and strontium stable isotope. Units 1 and 2 represent subaerial-meteoric diagenetic structures (paleosols. paleokarsts, and banded cements) and dolomite of a mixed-water origin. Originally, the dolostone was highly-permeable coarse-grained sediment, in which dolomitization selectively subjected. These diagenetic processes may have been associated with global sea-level low or a regional tectonic event during Kimmeridgian, and formed lithified substrate, which is suitable for sedentary organisms. Unit 3 abundantly yields potential reef-building organisms, such as stromatoporoids, corals, and calcareous algae. However, the dominant constituents are broken uniserial branching stromatoporoids, their constructions should be regarded as biostromes and did not form reef framework. Fossil association and strontium isotopic ratio indicate that this unit was deposited in Tithonian. Units 4~7 are alternations of two deeper and two shallower facies. The deeper units (units 4 and 6) mainly consists of micritic limestone with biofacies characterized by ostracodes, bryozoans, and sponge spicules. The shallower units (units 5 and 7) represents stromatolites, oncoids, and ooids with rich assemblage of calcareous algae. Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary was placed in unit 5. First appearance of orbitolinid foraminifers at the base of unit 7 was interpreted to correspond to the base of Barremian. Units 8 and 9 consist of four upward-shallowing sequences. The base of each cycle consists of thinly bedded limestone containing brachiopod shell, and change into thickly bedded and massive limestone with shallow marine stromatolies and fauna, such as corals and rudists. Gradual decrease in thickness of the sequence indicates that the platform was in progradation due to accumulation of the carbonate deposits

    Pressure-induced volumetric negative thermal expansion in CoZr2 superconductor

    We investigate the thermal expansion and superconducting properties of a CuAl2-type (tetragonal) superconductor CoZr2 under high pressures. We perform high-pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction in a pressure range of 2.9 GPa < P < 10.4 GPa and discover that CoZr2 exhibits volumetric negative thermal expansion under high pressures. Although the uniaxial positive thermal expansion (PTE) along the a-axis is observed under ambient pressure, that is suppressed by pressure, while the large uniaxial negative thermal expansion (NTE) along the c-axis is maintained under the pressure regime. As a result of a combination of the suppressed uniaxial PTE along the a-axis and uniaxial NTE along the c-axis, volumetric negative thermal expansion is achieved under high pressure in CoZr2. The mechanisms of volumetric NTE would be based on the flexible crystal structure caused by the soft Co-Co bond as seen in the iso-structural compound FeZr2, which exhibits uniaxial NTE along the c-axis. We also perform high-pressure electrical resistance measurements of CoZr2 to confirm the presence of superconductivity under the examined pressure regime in the range of 0.03 GPa < P < 41.9 GPa. We confirm the presence of superconductivity under all pressures and observe dome-like shape pressure dependence of superconducting transition temperature. Because of the coexistence of two phenomena, which are volumetric NTE and superconductivity, in CoZr2 under high pressure, the coexistence would be achievable under ambient pressure by tuning chemical compositions after our present observation.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, supporting informatio

    Establishment of macaque trophoblast stem cell lines derived from cynomolgus monkey blastocysts

    The placenta forms a maternal-fetal junction that supports many physiological functions such as the supply of nutrition and exchange of gases and wastes. Establishing an in vitro culture model of human and non-human primate trophoblast stem/progenitor cells is important for investigating the process of early placental development and trophoblast differentiation. In this study, we have established five trophoblast stem cell (TSC) lines from cynomolgus monkey blastocysts, named macTSC #1-5. Fibroblast growth factor 4 (FGF4) enhanced proliferation of macTSCs, while other exogenous factors were not required to maintain their undifferentiated state. macTSCs showed a trophoblastic gene expression profile and trophoblast-like DNA methylation status and also exhibited differentiation capacity towards invasive trophoblast cells and multinucleated syncytia. In a xenogeneic chimera assay, these stem cells contributed to trophectoderm (TE) development in the chimeric blastocysts. macTSC are the first primate trophoblast cell lines whose proliferation is promoted by FGF4. These cell lines provide a valuable in vitro culture model to analyze the similarities and differences in placental development between human and non-human primates

    認知症高齢者とその家族を最前線で支援する地域包括支援センターにおける,社会福祉士・保健師・看護師を中心とする専門職の実践に注目し,認知症高齢者の在宅生活継続に必要な要件を探ることを目的として,熊本県内の地域包括支援センターを対象にインタビューを実施し,得られたデータを分析した.その結果,地域包括支援センターにはさまざまな相談が寄せられ,地域の包括的相談窓口として認識されつつあること,配置されている専門職がチームアプローチを実践していること,その一方で,地域の諸機関と有効な連携が行われているものの,医師や医療機関との関係については認知症高齢者の在宅生活継続を可能にするほど十分なものではないこと,等が明らかとなった.今後も,住民の組織化による認知症高齢者を支えることのできる地域づくりへの努力が引き続き求められる

    A Proteomic Approach for the Diagnosis of ‘Oketsu’ (blood stasis), a Pathophysiologic Concept of Japanese Traditional (Kampo) Medicine

    ‘Oketsu’ is a pathophysiologic concept in Japanese traditional (Kampo) medicine, primarily denoting blood stasis/stagnant syndrome. Here we have explored plasma protein biomarkers and/or diagnostic algorithms for ‘Oketsu’. Sixteen rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients were treated with keishibukuryogan (KBG), a representative Kampo medicine for improving ‘Oketsu’. Plasma samples were diagnosed as either having an ‘Oketsu’ (n = 19) or ‘non-Oketsu’ (n = 29) state according to Terasawa's ‘Oketsu’ scoring system. Protein profiles were obtained by surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF MS) and hierarchical clustering and decision tree analyses were performed. KBG treatment for 4 or 12 weeks decreased the ‘Oketsu’ scores significantly. SELDI protein profiles gave 266 protein peaks, whose expression was significantly different between the ‘Oketsu’ and ‘non-Oketsu’ states. Hierarchical clustering gave three major clusters (I, II, III). The majority (68.4%) of ‘Oketsu’ samples were clustered into one cluster as the principal component of cluster I. The remaining ‘Oketsu’ profiles constituted a minor component of cluster II and were all derived from patients cured of the ‘Oketsu’ state at 12 weeks. Construction of the decision tree addressed the possibility of developing a diagnostic algorithm for ‘Oketsu’. A reduction in measurement/pre-processing conditions (from 55 to 16) gave a similar outcome in the clustering and decision tree analyses. The present study suggests that the pathophysiologic concept of Kampo medicine ‘Oketsu’ has a physical basis in terms of the profile of blood proteins. It may be possible to establish a set of objective criteria for diagnosing ‘Oketsu’ using a combination of proteomic and bioinformatics-based classification methods

    Background and purposeThe Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock 2016 (J-SSCG 2016), a Japanese-specific set of clinical practice guidelines for sepsis and septic shock created jointly by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, was first released in February 2017 and published in the Journal of JSICM, [2017; Volume 24 (supplement 2)] https://doi.org/10.3918/jsicm.24S0001 and Journal of Japanese Association for Acute Medicine [2017; Volume 28, (supplement 1)] http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jja2.2017.28.issue-S1/issuetoc.This abridged English edition of the J-SSCG 2016 was produced with permission from the Japanese Association of Acute Medicine and the Japanese Society for Intensive Care Medicine.MethodsMembers of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine were selected and organized into 19 committee members and 52 working group members. The guidelines were prepared in accordance with the Medical Information Network Distribution Service (Minds) creation procedures. The Academic Guidelines Promotion Team was organized to oversee and provide academic support to the respective activities allocated to each Guideline Creation Team. To improve quality assurance and workflow transparency, a mutual peer review system was established, and discussions within each team were open to the public. Public comments were collected once after the initial formulation of a clinical question (CQ) and twice during the review of the final draft. Recommendations were determined to have been adopted after obtaining support from a two-thirds (> 66.6%) majority vote of each of the 19 committee members.ResultsA total of 87 CQs were selected among 19 clinical areas, including pediatric topics and several other important areas not covered in the first edition of the Japanese guidelines (J-SSCG 2012). The approval rate obtained through committee voting, in addition to ratings of the strengths of the recommendation, and its supporting evidence were also added to each recommendation statement. We conducted meta-analyses for 29 CQs. Thirty-seven CQs contained recommendations in the form of an expert consensus due to insufficient evidence. No recommendations were provided for five CQs.ConclusionsBased on the evidence gathered, we were able to formulate Japanese-specific clinical practice guidelines that are tailored to the Japanese context in a highly transparent manner. These guidelines can easily be used not only by specialists, but also by non-specialists, general clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, clinical engineers, and other healthcare professionals

    Acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive with nanodiamond and acid-base dependence of pressure-sensitive adhesive properties

    A high performance and functional properties in pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are attractive in fundamental and industrial fields. To control the performance of PSAs, nanofillers have been loaded into them. In this study, we focused on composites of acrylic PSAs and nanodiamonds (NDs). The loaded NDs reinforced the mechanical properties and increased the performance of the PSAs. NDs in a PSA formed a network structure. In this study, we revealed that the acidic–basic state was a key factor in the control of the dispersion of the NDs. When a PSA emulsions and ND aqueous dispersion was mixed under basic conditions, the composites demonstrated higher PSA properties (tack, holding, and peeling strength).     Cellulose nanofibers are green nanomaterials because of their biodegradability and sustainability, they are also attractive structural materials because of their high mechanical performance. For further expansion of their application and acquisition of their reliability, mechanical reinforcement and functionalization of cellulose nanofiber materials are required. In this work, we focused on the mechanical properties and thermal conductivities of composites of cellulose nanofibers and a nanodiamond (ND). Compared with graphene oxides, which are conventional two-dimensional nanocarbon fillers in aqueous media, natural diamond possesses a much larger modulus. It also has the highest thermal conductivity among all the elemental substances. The ND possesses hydrophilic oxygen functional groups at the surface, following a high dispersion in aqueous media and the rigid diamond structure at the core. In this work, the ND resulted in an increased mechanical reinforcement and enhancement of the thermal conductivity of the cellulose nanofiber, while keeping the high visible light transmittance originating from the latter. In particular, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl-oxidized cellulose nanofibers were reinforced more effectively than quaternary ammonium cellulose nanofibers because of the stronger interaction with the ND and higher dispersibility of the ND.
